Reason 1: This game is very much similar to Knights of the Old Republic, one of the best Star Wars games EVAH!!!! It's also made by Bioware, the makers of K.O.T.O.R., are making this game. Reason 2: This game will revolutionize MMOs because you will not feel like you are grinding, and the quests(called missions in The Old Republic)will not be like, "Go and kill 10 acklays" or "Collect one krayt dragon hide." The missions will be like, "Go slice into the computer to take over the ship." Reason 3: Several gaming sites have already written reviews on this game, and they are all good. One site even states,"As the force-choked trooper slides across the ground, clutching is neck, it becomes obvious; this game is a WoW killer."

AoC never crashed and burned. Its going to take more that one game to "kill" WoW. I think it's ridiculous that people reviewed a game that isn't out yet. Just my thoughts. "...these forums are like soap operas"-Nihce |

Your poll is crap. (I see you edited it some) First off I think this game will draw 10 to 25% of WOW western players intially, those looking for something new because WOW is getting tedious. If the game is polished and fun, then I think you could see up to 50% of the WOW western players giving this a shot. After 6 months we will then know whether or not this game can sustain such high numbers and whether or not it will be a major sucess. Either way, this game will not kill WOW, it will keep going strong until WOW quits releasing constant updates and expansions.

You obviously never read any info on The Old Republic. If you did, you would understand these reviews. And no, I'm not crazy about Star Wars. |

*blank* will kill wow threads make me want to bake kittens into a pie. There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own? |

Star Wars: The Old Republic won't kill WoW, it probably might be a successful game, but it won't even kill Aion. Now, in the United States or North America it might pass WoW, but not worldwide. |

I don't think this game will kill WoW simply because so many people think it will. Call me a contrarian. I just think its too obvious, and I think Blizzard's next mmo will be better than SWTOR. That's without knowing anything about it besides... its made by Blizzard. We'll still get over 1 million, but no, it won't be #1 and won't be the WoW killer. |

I can see this taking a lot of WoW players initially when the game releases. This game pretty much sounds just like WoW, but with a Star Wars skin, and "story". I can see a lot of players playing this in the beginning, but eventually the stories will run out. Once a lot of people start reaching the end of the stories, I see them flocking back to WoW or wherever they came from.
But honestly, why would anyone want their favorite up and coming game to kill WoW? That would mean the WoW players are now in your game. Why would anyone want that? Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

There is no mmo atm or anything in the near future that is going to kill wow. We heard all this before with AOC and Warhhammer and look what hapened with both of them. As for Aion i am sure it will have some success at first but it all depends when the new wow expansion will come. IF it will come late next year then Aion is doomed Lets face it the only thing that will kill wow is Blizzard itself . Cluck Cluck i'm a chick!!!! |

It will only rival WoW iF: 1. game specs are reasonable. Bioware is the first company to use the Hero Engine. The company that made the engine never got a game off the ground with it (Heroes Journey is in a coma if not dead). So if the game requires high end systems, it will take a heavy commitment to grab everyones attention 2. Bioware has to be prepared. Bioware hasn't dipped into the MMO realm yet. Single player games are one thing. yes, Bioware has delivered in this aspect. Now, they are going to be managing a game world for thousands of players at once. EA/ Mythic should be able to give them insight in these matters, but ultimately the management of the game falls on them. Not that Wow has been best customer service company, but if you want to compete with them, you better stand out or stand aside. 3. Content - WoW has one of the deepest games out there. It has been around and still has subscribers in the millions. It is easy to get into and demands a lot of time to master. Bioware has to create content with this in mind. A lvl 1- 50 Tortage style game will be fun for a month. Like most single player games. However, how will you keep that subscriber for a year? PvP? timely delivery of expansions? more races/ professions? non combat metagames? 4. Cost - EA will eventually demand the game to launch. No amount of voice over NPCS is going to support a poorly launched game. Finally - Best site for Chuck Norris |

If Bioware strays (as you claim they are doing) too far from the mmo formula they run the risk of not only great success, but also great failure. Reason 3: Reviews of a game not launched are meaningless.
Not saying TOR will fail or be bad, just that your reasoning is very faulty. Smells more like desperate hope to me.

Yeah people need to stop this X vs. Y crap, no more wow-killer this, eq-killer that, it's been going on for nearly 10 years and it's always dumb. There's clearly enough room for all MMOs in the genre. Success or failure doesn't depend on another game, it depends on whether the game is good and fun or not. That being said, SWoTOR (which I'mc calling it cause it sounds easier to say, like KOTOR) is probably one of the few games that could have any effect on WoW's population. No game will kill the other, but on launch day blizz might notice a number of unsubbed people. "Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000 |

Originally posted by Hathi I highly doubt this will kill World of Warcraft, but I do think if done right it can be a highly succesful game that can grow over time. But in order to do that it has to be 1.) stable-if people can't log in or face too many technical glitches then forget it. 2.) fun- something many seem to forget when talking about games. If it isn't fun, then it will fail. The masses don't like games that are too tedious and boring. Games are supposed to be a nice diversion from life. We already have jobs and don't like paying for the privilidge to have a second one without any benefits.
MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |
