So i get an email saying i won a free copy of AOC  and been wanting to play this game so was very happy i get it downloaded over night go to my email this morning and it says from mmorpg we are sorry we fucked up and you didn't win and we let funcom know your key is no good so you can't play this is a load of bullshit own up to your mess mmorpg

Yepp me too, so we are in the same boat. TBH they dont give a flying duck about it. So dont waste your letters writing anything about it on this forum.

They had a technical problem.. What would you like them to do. Maybe Buy you a 30 day trial? I mean its not their game to give away.

They should either hire staff that can read or give the people they said have won in the first play a copy. Its their misstake why should we suffer for it?

I was not affected by this, however, I think that a competent company would offer to buy a copy for those who were falsely notified.

9 years ago I downloaded the free beta of Asheron's Call 1 from a gaming site that no longer exists now. This was when I was still on dialup so it took me like 9 hours to do.

When it was finally done I found out that the beta was over and that I spent 9 hours downloading something that didn't even work.

I was pissed off and wrote in to them about it and asked why are they leaving stuff like this up and wasting peoples time.

They bought me a copy of AC1 and it was and will always be the best MMORPG I've ever played.

MMORPG.com should buy these people a copy plain and simple.
THEY were the ones that fucked up.....

why do they owe you money for nothing?

just download the free trial. lol

 It's a CONTEST, meaning you did nothing to win it, more or less. If you lose it, does it really matter? No money lost on your part.

Edit: This happened to me too, but I can realize it was just a technical problem and in reality, I spent no time signing up for the contest.

The mistake was made on MMORPG.com's end. Though it may be a terrible inconvenience to them, I feel that your inability to play the trial (AoC has closed the trial due to the Veteran return call, and they do not know when they will reopen them) combined with their emailing you that you had won, warrant some sort of action on their part.

Whether or not they will do something to make it right is still in their hands to act or not act upon.

Well in any event they will either reopen the trials or not, it dosen't matter its not a great game your not missing anything.

What a bunch of BS! You guys have had things close to this happen in life and didnt go out of your way to help, BUY or even GIVE something to the other person. Yet mmorpg should lmao.  You werent going to PLAY the game.. you just wanted the 30 day free. So you didnt get it..

Bah they are doing you a favor, AoC is fun for about 20 levels, just long enough to get you to funel some money to funcom.

    I'm not really angry, because I understand why they would do such a thing. What I *don't* understand, is why they won't just give us the free copies anyways. I mean, they *are* trying to boost sales and interest in AoC, are they not? That was the point of the contest, right? I mean, why else would you give away 1,000 copies for free? So, why not just let us *have* them? I'd be willing to give AoC a good go now. I don't see why others wouldn't as well.

I downloaded it too, was happy and went and tried to make account! But ffs you need a credit card for that, and tried if mine works but no (typically buy prepaids) anyway it can be activated by prepaid gamecard but I have to buy it before activating my account plus I am an european user and they sell eurpean prepaids here. And the one option is PaybyCash which should work but I have had enough problems with it. Kinda stupid :(

not complaining here, but i had won a free month (or game card i cant remember) from the TCOS sweepstakes, and i never received anything and now i think they closed the game down, so meh wahteva

 This is easily, and without a doubt, the MOST ridiculous thread, I have EVER read.  If you are in this situation, (having been told you won a copy, and then been told it was a mistake and were apologized to for the error,) and HONESTLY believe that you still deserve a copy of the game just because someone made a mistake, (and apologiized for it!), then you are a greedy, self-centered, cry-baby, jackass, and until you grow the hell up, I hope I never have the misfortune of running into you in ANY MMO where I can't immediately flag for PVP and commence to pwning you to hell...

It is phenomenolly ridiculous to say ,(let alone actually BELIEVE,) that MMORPG.COM should BUY these people copies of the game because a HARMLESS error was made.  Look:  You don't pay to subscribe to the site; you don't pay to enter any contests; therefore you don't have ANYTHING to legitimately bitch about because you didn't actually lose ANYTHING.

Numerous people have pointed out that there has been a free trial for the game, (which any of you could have taken advantage of before now but didn't for some reason,) but it's been shut down for a period for vet returns.  Wait!  The link to the trial page is still active!  They're essentially saying you can try it, but you can't!  FUNCOM should give you a full copy for free then right?

Well, I won a copy; got my key, and will be downloading and playing in the next couple days; I look forward to not seeing you all in-game!
