When i was 8 i used to fight with all of my friends as how every game or toy that i own is better compared to theirs.  Now that i am 26 it surprises me that so called mature gamer are still doing it. Just that now this contest has moved to internet channels.

And as you would expect many of the participants in these discussions are less than capable of holding a  mature debate over a topic. Most of their posts are full of lies and misleading information. If anyone tries to correct them they are labeled as shills (you are getting paid by teh company).  Interestingly these same people who participate in such contests would be the first to label others as kids, immature, nolifers etc etc...

Isn't MMO market big enough for all kind of games to have its own player base? why do we feel so threatened if a new MMO is released that we start these immature debacles? this whole argument is flawed because different people have different tastes. For example for some game might look ugly but others might find it visually appealing, it mighty be grindy for few but the same grind would be fun for some others. There are so many factors that come into play that its hard to pin point on one thing and say that hey i won the argument or i was right..

So my question is why so many mature people act like children on internet fighting over video games? what is to be gained out of such arguments? does popularity mean quality? is there even such a  thing as "my MMO is original" anymore? why to argue over such a flawed argument?

A lot of it comes down to the fact that most people don't really understand how truly diverse mankind is.  It takes a long time for people to truly understand the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treaure".

How can you troll in these forums if you don't trample over something?

because we all want it our way, and many of us are still suffering from the terrible twos - we will hold our breath and stamp our feet... throwing ourselves on the ground and scream at the top of our lungs...unless they developers change their game to our whims and desires.  Gets kind of boring after awhile.

Because we all work for MMO companies or own stock in them.. and most of us are losing everything due to lack of subscribers..

oh wait... I honestly have no idea and its something I've often wondered.

Altho I think when I started to think about it.. was when the ATI vs. Nvidia or AMD vs. Intel flame wars were still pretty young.  Same thing different sub-components... (something like that).

Justification.

It's just human nature. They all want to prove that their choices (even if it is just the type of game they play) are the best choices. Most people have egos the size of Texas, you aren't going deflate them easily. If you do manage to find any real flaws in their decisions, you'll be reciprocated with a hissy tantrum and a crude attempt to devalue anything you've said.

It's best if you just ignore such people and simply state your own opinions about the things you like. I think we can figure out who the trolls are.

My game is better.

And lets see. Your getting paid by mmorpg to reduce the number of flame wars on its forums.

welcome to the internet, where everyones opinion is best and we are all experts on every topic.

see only we know how to make the best game ever created, if only they would listen to us.....

too many people demand too exact a match to what they want, and are unable to enjoy even a close match in a game.  then anything minor is the straw that breaks the camels back...a bad customer support incident, some unruly players bothering you, or too much fustration and....tada a troll who will forever hate that game and the company who made it.

I think our expectations are a bit unrealistic at times and often we are unable to compromise.  "I have fun playing but the game is missing...."

I have played some of the "biggest failure" games of the last few years as they have been called, despite being economically a success.  I have managed to have fun playing all of them, and was not bitter when i decided to move on, or stay to witness some revamps and patches.

These are, afterall, games....and even with a box purchase and p2p they are not expensive by any means (if they are perhaps you have better things to worry about and devote large chunks of time to).

We all need to chill out and have some fun, even if the game has flaws...lifes too short to waste on fretting games that dont have every aspect you want in a game.

For a serious answer, I think it's because we all want a certain game. We all know that these games wwe like to play cost a lot of money to make. And most of us are here because the Devs and publishers are not catering to us. Otherwise we'd be playing WoW, LotRO, or Aion.

We all want our games, the ones we want to play, to be the best games because we want them to get made. We don't want YOUR crappy game to get made, because we don't want to play that, and there's only so much game development going on.

I mean, what games am I currently looking forward to? Champions Online, and TOR. Chances are one of them is going to suck, and the other might be playable for 6 months or so.

So while I"m hoping the  devs are going to make the next great game I want to play, you're hoping they make some crappy First Person Shooter massive something or another type of game. And I know if they spend money making your massive first person shooter game, they aren't making my MMORPG, and vice a versa.

While I know what games Ive enjoyed in thet past and while I enjoy certain aspects of games, I think the best game to come is something we havent thought of yet

Its not going to follow a certain set of MMO genre rules that anyone has previously set out as being "The best possible MMO".

When great painters or artists came into their own, no one was saying, "You know what we need...we need this etcetcetc" and then along comes said artist to copy that idea.

Pearl Jam, Monet and even WoW werent ripoffs. They did their own thing.

Oh Im sure they had influences but what doesnt in this life?

I think people get sick of playing something they're hoping will get better never does. WoW was that way for me, I kept hoping that PvP would get balanced or that raids would be more accessible. Nothing changed and the game became boring and pointless. Why? Because Blizzard isn't interesting in 'fixing' something that's already making them huge amounts of money.

Every MMO I've played has ended up frustrating me in the end, primarily because the 'end' of the game just winds up being horribly boring and/or unbalanced. I can't say I've never had fun playing MMOs, just that they ultimately fail to deliver any lasting content (which is actually a testament to monotonous game play). Eventually, I just stop playing out of frustration and 'hate' the company for making a game that left such a bad taste in my mouth.
