Funcom launched a viral compaign to discredit Darkfall back in 2006-7, posting on every blog and forum that it was vaporware. They tried to do it on the Darkfall forums, but the IP got tracked to Funcom HQ and they had to make a public apology. But that was basically the first step that attacted so many vaportrolls that still harry the game today.

I will be interesting in watching how the subs-only forums go for them.  I was a subscriber for SWG when they switched.  I didn't really see any improvement.  If anything all it did was stop those that were truly interested in the game from posting questions.

Those that have quit playing but still have time left will continue to post.

Those that buy the game, but don't like it will continue to post.

Anyway... I haven't seen that sub-only forums really accomplish what the Devs hope that they accomplish.  Who knows perhaps Aventurine will be able to make it work.

The mods are anything BUT ban happy on the Darkfall boards. It's the most unpoliced forums I know of. If he managed to get banned then he something seriously bad.

I doubt anything I did or said caused you not to play the game. If you can't handle one person forwarding some message they got from a troll, then you  never were really interested in the game anyway.

At the very least it would make sense to post it both places.  Otherwise, it just smacks of trolling the mmorpg.com forums.

I visit a lot of other forums as well.  I spend most of my time here though.

When I visit TTH forums I occasionally see some trolling over there of the games that I am following.  I guess it just wouldn't ever cross my mind to make a thread here on mmorpg.com complaining about the trolling that I see going on over there.  What would be the point?

Make the thread complaining about the trolling where it's happening.  Seems pretty simple. 

If you get a PM from someone here at mmorpg.com trolling your favorite game then yeah, feel free to post it.   Although it might come across as a bit "staged" now. 

Otherwise it seems pretty biased and smacks of trolling these forums to not even call out the Trolls on the Official boards where the PM came from in the first place.

The funny thing is,

I had a fan of the game send me some rather ignorant PM's on the official forums because I made a suggestion he didn't like.
The guy sent a bunch of people in the thread PM's.

Bad games sell, just not as well as good ones.
DFO is pretty good proof of that.

These type of people were bombarding the servers yesterday during the launch of the free expansion. The forums were clogged with these idiots. Why would someone do this? What is the motivation? Is he just some former vaportroll moron who can't handle the fact that Darkfall launched and is doing alright for itself? What?

I think the reasons are multiple. 

1) The Internet is Anon., and kids use its safety to vent.

2) Number of players are extremely protective of games they play and are compulsive in putting down any game they don't particularly like.

3) Some have played DFO, and are angry.   Anger stems from stuff like getting a different game from what they expected, all the way to what I think is the most common, that is, never having experience in a true FFA Sandbox game with full loot. 

4) Some have played DFO and have legitimate complaints, but unfortunately can get mixed in with the trolls, and this is the problem, as a discussion board becomes a venting trashing board and looses its constructive edge.

I think the issue you have may stem from simply not liking a true FFA game with full loot consequences.   In this thread, www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2896447#2896447 on June 18, 2009, you make this clear, and try to compare Lineage ][ to DFO.   You can't compare the two.  In Lineage ][ on a "red" player dropped loot, and it has a rediculous Karma system.  L2 is definately geared towards GvG and Sieges; not Free for All.     DFO is designed for GvG, Sieges, and Free for all.    You state that DFO "The Game itself caters to greifers more then any other PvP game I've ever played"   and that my friend is your opinion; but that's solely based upon your experience, not some emperical truth.    Bottom line is if you don't enjoy the often harsh world of DFO, don't play it; no need to explain to the world why the game sucks, when in truth, its just not for you.

So as this thread is about trolling, why exactly are you still here Faric?  I mean that sincerely.   What is it you want out of this board, on a game you appear to have zero interest in, that you have not already said 100's of times already?
