Why? It's call polish. "You'll find a great many of the truths we cling to depend greatly upon our point of view." |

They are looking at it (which in dev terms is, we have something we were working on but didn't have the time to put it in, but might later on when the more important stuff is released) it's just not something the devs view as a priority, my counter is still the same, it makes the game look unfinished, if water is not part of the game right now then don't allow people to walk under it, that's lame. :p

Long Thread :P
Anyway, yes they should add a swimming animation. Admit it, As beatiful and lovely as the game is, it seems rather silly that your character acts like he has Iron Boots on like Link :P They should just add an invisable wall at the shore line.
Really, MMORPGs should be more connected though to prevent this kind of problem instead of area by area :P |

I over heard from some Devs at a tradeshow that the reason they can't swim is that, unlike humans, Elyos and Asmodae are composed mainly of sodium bicarbonate and other hydrous-reactive elements and are, infact, composed of materials that is close to those commonly found in Alka-seltzer. Their skin protects them from some exposure, but total immersion results in a painful explosion of fizzing, bubbling and dissolving death. The sloppy part (IMHO) of the Aion programming is the not including this death animation. I mean, it would be worth a month's sub just to watch some winged pretty boy writhing and screaming as he dissolves the same way Alka-seltzer does.

That works too, being that sodium bicarbonate burns, but that would require a different, yet gruesomely fun death animation. |

It's more realistic actually since you cant swim while wearing heavy armor or large flowing robes. Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls. |

Depends on how many people you`ve witnessed flying using Angel/Devil-like Wings. |

I find it hard to believe that so many people are so adamant about swimming. I mean, I can understand having emotes and other immersive features. However swimming just seems to be one of those things that, well, why. I know most people want it "just because", but I really doubt that most of the people complaining about it here would spend any time at all actually swimming in the game. I mean during the beta event I didn't see anywhere that even made me think about wanting to try and jump in the water. Most of the water around the pirate ship was shallow (unless for some reason you jumped off the other side...) and the other areas that had a lake all had very shallow water. In the end it really doesn't matter if they do decide to add swimming, I'd rather they do just so that some people would stop complaining about it, but I still find it to be a strange thing to complain about. Maybe it's because I'm not a big RP person or something, I don't know.
Sigh. |

Does anyone have an update on the swimming deal? I really woud like to see swimming before a release in NA. It just seems odd not to have it, I cant believe some people actually back up the developers for not adding it in, its just a no brainer thing to have feature wise.

Can't swim in FFXI either and no one ever cared. Theres a few places where you can be under water and just nothing happens. Game has been around a while and is still kicking. So people who say you can swim in all other MMO's are wrong!! :P hi |

It's just the devs way of saying "You can fly idiot! Just fly over the puddle....gawd!!! Stupid Americans!!!" but that is just my rude opinion of what the devs way of saying it is :P --Custom Rig: Maker's Forge--- |

It's also unrealistic to sprout wings and fly too. I'm guessing your too used to running into walls. That is not what a MMORPG is about. Not even single player games have invisible walls in every area. It's been natural in all games to have places you can access blocked off by boundries. Cliffs, canyons, rivers, oceans, water, etc.
Come on guys think about it....some of you are expecting too much. If you want to go in the water, this game is free to let you in the water. If you want to glide down a canyon, this game will let you do it. I think it shows how much of an experience this game is just to let you go to that extra mile. I already went on dangrous underwater adventures and flown down canyons and cliffs where the only way you can get back up is by using your return teleport spell. I take my hat off to Aion just for letting you have the ability to do something crazy when curious.

Its basically an immersion breaker. If you can't swim, there shouldn't be a way to actually enter any water deeper than a stream. Its lazyness and nothing more. Before someone screams BETA, the game has been released already folks. There is no real beta anymore. Immersion would've been a drowning animation as soon as you fall into any deep water. THEN I would've accepted that in Aion, people can't swim. THAT's called polish. Some developers go the extra mile. Others don't. On the other hand, there really hasn't been any effort what so ever in designing a world thats even barely beleivable. Its pure over the top fantasy. Aion is not a living, breathing world and doesn't even attempt to try to make you beleive it is. Its not a game breaker, but its similar to not being able to jump. Just lazyness. |

Not swimming breaks immersion? Why doesn't not drowning with wings and full plate not break immersion?
Fact is water as a barrier is MORE realistic than allowing consequenceless swimming. This is one of those issues that just shows how silly alot of immersion stuff is in people's heads.
How many people do you know that routinely swim, in clothes, to cross water. How many State and Country border have been created by significant bodies of water? Fact is water IS a barrier. |

No swimming implemented is lame, makes it feel a little like a f2p game and not an AAA Title. imho
And wahts the*takes to much resouces* bogus?? they had time to make giant carrots and fish for weapons -.- and a good chunk of emotes too. ____________________ AC2,AO,D&L,Lotro,VsoH,SWG,Uo,HGL,Drunners,CoH,GW,Potbs,PWI |

Laugh it up, funnymen. You think water is a joke, huh? Well, water isn't a joke, especially for those who can fly. Behold, the true destructive force of water! *GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING* Oh, what a world, what a world . . . |
