What's worse is that Star Trek Online will have the same thing. At least that's what I got from that TTH interview. Someone linked it on the CO forums on this site.

You work for Cryptic and don't know your own in-house production?

GTFO I use skooma so that I can work harder and longer and make more money so I can buy more skooma. I don't see a problem. |

Yeah, enjoy paying 50$ for the box, 15$ a month, and god knows how much for the cash shop to be competitive. Sounds real fun, thanks but no thanks Cryptic. |

They said in game items of equal value and stats to those that can be obtained in game. Specifically they said something like, "Some people don't have time to join huge guilds and raid 3 nights a week. For these people that want an item, but don't have the time they can buy stuff from the cash shop. It won't be the exact same, but it would give them something that they normally couldn't aquire in game. Example was something like a raider getting some awesome mount, and then being able to buy a different awesome mount in the cash shop." I put quotes but I paraphrased. I forget where the interview is, but i'm sure if you care you can find it. I don't support Cryptic in the MMO market after all of this, and i'm pretty sad that they have their greedy paws on Star Trek. |

I think this is the one you mean: Ten Ton Hammer: So more along the lines of gameplay ‘enhancers’ rather than ‘replacers’. Bill Roper: I even hesitate to use the term ‘gameplay’ because I think when you use that word people immediately equate that to damage dealt or armor and experience point gain or that kind of stuff, and there’s nothing on my list that’s like that. I think those are valid things to be part of a micro-transaction game, but one that is solely a micro-transaction game. If you’re looking at a game that’s free to download and free to play and its business model is supported by micro-transactions, that’s really where their bread-n-butter is made because it’s more like, yes, you can play the game and be successful but if you really want to kick up the experience gain and do things better or faster you can pick up those kinds of items. But that’s not Champions Online. That’s not the way the game is structured, that’s not the emphasis for the game and that’s not the desire for us with micro-transactions. I don't believe that they will have an MT system like EQ2 did. Where if you wanted to play a certain dungeon with the loot ONLY available in there, so you had to pay an extra fee to get it. The pressure was placed on others that couldn't join in UNLESS they too purchased it. If I can spend $5.00 for what I want, instead of another $20 - $30 dollars for a "collector's edition" why not? |

Man, if that's true that kinda makes me sad. I would have tried this game out but, if that's the case I might skip it. _________________________________ |

Wrong - this is standard practice across most mmos, and several other industries. It's cheap, and means they can devote more money to the game itself instead of annoying flash banners. Viral marketing has been around for decades.
Though I must admit, the guy that posted this (or bot), is terrible at his job. This was OBVIOUSLY an advert from the first sentence through the last. |

Seriously. Read about the 'cash shop' before you make a snap, and clearly ignorant, judgment.
I'm ready to vomit over the idiocy on this subject.
But kudos on beating a dead horse for the 100000000000000000000000 time on these forums. |
