For those of us NA players currently playing on the EU server and not wanting to spend an extra 50.00 on a game we have already bought, please read and respond to this thread.

Also, please keep it civil. There is no reason to go nuts and flame and go crazy. I'd like to keep the thread open as long as we can.

It seems obvious to me and to everyone on that thread that AV is not going to follow through with their word.

You got hosed, they pulled a regular bait and switch on you, I'd be pissed too.

Who didn't see it coming though...   They seem like the most shady game development company since SoE.

Their roses smell like kitty poo.

Wow. I dropped $56 on it but I wouldn't think about coming back unless they get rid of all the auto-loot hacks, but having to pay again? Not even if it was squeky clean.

There are quite a few of us former customers who would give the game another shot if they allowed us to. However, they will burn quite a few bridges should they not.

I just find it odd that you can't play on a US server when you bought a EU client.   Ive played a few games where Ive bought the US client and can play on servers over seas with EU people.

Maybe AV did things differently than these other games have and thats why you can't play on different servers.  If I bought the EU client and then had to shell out another 50 for the US client Id be hella pissed and would end up quiting the game. But I bet there is some kind of work around, hell hackers can make boats disapear and fly, im sure they can figure out how to play on the US server with at EU client.

Nobody bought the "client".  They bought a license to play in Aventurine's world (which is what happens with all games). More detail here.

Oh ok I didn't know that. But still how come in other games you can play on servers that are oceanic even if you bought the license to play in the US?  To me it just seems like AV is trying to pull a fast one.

It's not uncommon for there to be different publishers for different regions.  WAR and LotRO are good examples.  In Europe, GOA and Codemasters hold the rights, respectively, where as it's EA and Turbine in North America.  In either case, if you want to play  in a specific region you need an account with that publisher and to pay that publisher.  Even with some free games, you need separate accounts.  For Runes of Magic, there are Frogster America Accounts and Yusho accounts. So, are they pulling a fast one?  No, or at least not in the manner that's causing you concern.

What should cause concern is that there's no mention of the North American publisher at all.  If it's "business as usual" then why don't we know who the new publisher is for the North American region?  That's definitely quesitonable, IMO.

LONG STORY SHORT

AV wrote a check it couldn't cash.

It gave its word that things would be a certian way.  (They thought they'd have distribution rights in the US, they had to get a different company to do that so they don't)

These things are beyond AV's control now, everyones screwed because AV doesn't have the funds to make things the way they wanted.

I really doubt that they really INTENDED to screw anyone over, it just ended up that way because it was their only option.

And if AV would simply man up and say that, it would probably make many of us happy. However, instead they are still being vague, and saying nothing at all.

No, I actually do give everyone the benefit of the doubt, even game companies.

I mean I don't think most people in this world go around thinking up ways to screw each other out of money.. but hey maybe I'm just way too optimistic for realitiy.

Looking at most of the answers in that thread DF will finished with a small group of mindless Tasos followers until it closes.

For each constructive answer are ten insults.

What law school did you go to and how much experience to you have in International Licensing Agreements?

I thought so.

Have to chalk it up to inexperience, but in the real world folks, business deals Internationally occasionally can have restrictions one or more of the intended parties could not anticipate.

Bottom line; any account on EU can play on NA, but they need to wait until 90 days after NA goes live to give those first rolling on NA new characters a chance to catch up, so when the transfers happen, it's a more level playing field.

This really isn't difficult to understand, but for those intent on arguing and slinging mud, regardless of the merits, all the rational discussion in the world won't matter.

Well now,
I'd like to see your law degree.

You do know that it's not required for Av to have a publisher.  They could get all the lisences they need and pay all of the appropriate taxes to operate here in the US if they wanted.  You don't need to be a multimillion dollar coproration to operate a business in the US, even if you're from Greece.  They don't require any kind of distribution because the game is electronically distributed.  They just need NA billing support.  That's a little harder then getting a lisence to operate in the US.

You being the highly educated, lawyery type already know though, Av has to have a lisence to operate in the US irregardless of a publishing deal.  Unless they sell the rights of the game off to the publisher entirely, wich means they no longer develop and support it, wich they didn't do.

Not to mention,
They still haven't annouced the publisher; with less then a week to go for the NA server.
Nor has the publisher made an announcement themself.
That's not really normal.

When did AV do something normal:P

Btw i think they want you to buy second client for so called US server then suddenly annouce it failed to open a server and you have to play on EU-1 again and US client aint working on EU-1 server, that would be awesome if that happen LMAO:)

Don't forget that it would make your previous EU account invalid therefore requiring you to purchase yet another account because thier EU publisher says so.

I'm sorry if Vanguard didn't turn out as you hoped; it was a dissapointment for me as well.    Back then you made a good post on this thread  www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/1183264#1183264 post #62.   The following in particular really resonated with me.

What I really don't understand is the people that don't have interest in this game,....., and have no intentions of buy the game still patroll these forums to preach how bad it is.

What's transpired in the past 2.5 years to make you change your mind?

Thank you -CC
