I've done my fair share of research, watching videos, etc., but you never really know just how well the combat will suit you until you try it.

I've played all of the popular ones (as well as WoW's arena comeptitively), so I'm no stranger to combos, stuns, fears, charges, teleports, etc.

My big question to you folks who have played the Korean version is the following: Just how complex is Aion's combat when compared to that of WoW/EQ2/AoC etc. ?

I've read up on the skills on a German site (that translated from the current Korean version) and they don't really seem to be that different from what we've all seen before in some shape and form; in fact, it seems like there are really very few skills/CCs/interrupts in this game as a whole when compared to other games.

This is not some kind of troll attempt, so please be civil and don't attack me, because I like games that you don't.

If the website I went to gave me the wrong impression, then apologies in advance.

How would you rate the combat from 1 to 10?

Horrible
Bad
Not good
Alright
Decent
Good
Pretty good
Great!
Awesome!
Among the best I've ever experienced

Sorcer seems somewhat static.  The hunter  has to kite a lot (but seems hunters love that).  Gladiator is A*M*A*Z*I*N*G.  Cleric, Templar, Chanters seems about right. I don't know Spiritmasters. Also, this opinion is just to level 20, don't know how it evolve in high levels, probably change a lot.

Combat speed and reactivity are just about right in my mind.  Much faster and more responsive  than WAR,  for example.

Next CB event is weekend of 7/17.   You can find out for yourself simply by purchasing a Preorder cassette with beta card inside for $5 from any Gamestop (where I got it).  This guarantees you access to all CB, OB, and headstart events for minimal cost.

See you in game!

You will feel at home in the combat system. The combat is fairly fast paced but not as twitchy as WoW so far. I seem to have fewer instants than WoW but then again this is pretty low level. I do miss AoC's combo system but the chains in Aion may make up for it.  Despite having a very high level of graphics there is very little latency. Biggest issue in Aion is no collision detection like WoW so I am not sure how to keep players off your healers yet with very few CCs.

That's another thing missing from this game.  WoW did it first, then came Vanguard and WAR.  Combo points.

Or something similar to WoW's Rage for warriors.  And no, DP doesn't count lol.

I'm not saying they should copy the formula, but adding some diversity and original ideas would have been alot more fun.

As a templar at high levels it gets really fast and engaging, you don't even auto-attack once because you've got quite a few skills and you'll need to think fast which skill to use in any given situation especially if it's a combo as it breaks up in a couple of seconds.

Combat feels right in this game. Just the right speed, responsive, engaging, you actually feel like every skill has a purpose and don't just spam the !@#$ out of them. you also clearly notice what spells/skills/buffs/debuffs a player is using, providing you know the class ofc.

Let's just say that it's one of the things that work, and pretty well at that.

What I love about the combat system in Aion is the Arial Combat. I mean, fighting in the air? Personally, I believe you can't get much bettter than that. However, some people might not prefer arial combat because it does involve a lot of technique and strategy and can be difficult at times.

Yup, so you can not form a wall around your healers (ala AoC) to protect them from enemy dps. You instead have to peel them some other way. I am not sure how to do this in Aion yet. Otherwise, the strat becomes just rush the enemy healers as hard and as fast as possible.

This is why healers can wear chainmail.  Blocking off access to your healer is retarded lol.  Definately sounds like another one of those stupid little things "WoW People(TM)" would complain about

Actually the "WoW People" would not complain, since it's the exact same scenario as described in the posts you quoted; I had originally misinterpreted Catlana's post as meaning "no collision detection like WoW" instead of "like WoW, no collision detection", which is what was intended.

What i love best about the combat, is that the moves seem to flow together, as if you were really fighting.  Like a street brawl compared to a martial arts fight.  The controls and moves just fit together spectacularly.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

WAR and AoC offer it; there might be others, but those are the ones I've played that had it.

Girlfriends come and go but Epic battles are Soulbound

7/07/09 11:42:53 PM#18

PVPing in a group is just ton's of fun (you are not just a single guy fighting with a group of people like some games). Every class brings something to the group so they can be more effective (Chanters > buffing and using skills that increase overall party damage,  SM > Debuffing enemys "300+ damage for every buff removed", Assinins & Rangers > going in stealth and scouting out the location of the enemy or Flanking them to do a hit and run).

It works but you just don't get to see it until around lvl20 (lvl1-lvl19 is quite boring  but its worth the wait IMO)

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

So you're saying that, much like WAR, it's oriented more along RVR than 2v2, 3v3 etc. ?

I can definitely appreciate that to an extent, but I've always favored games that were more small-group oriented, since they are generally more skill oriented as more depends on the individual player in those situations than in large group PvP.

What about timing CC, canceling, etc.?

You really can't express something like a games combat with words, My best advice is to wait for an OB or get a CB key and try it out for yourself. ( and like any game try not to make an opinion after playing for only 3 hours, It takes a little while before your class starts to shine.  A.K.A:  lvls 1-19 are quite boring and feels like anyother game).

From what people say it's nothing like WAR or WOW  ( I never played those games )
