No offense, but your the one who chose to pay to play a new game that incorperated new technology. You know people will pay for the advantage to play first and have a head start, they know this as well. Yes you basically paid for a beta test for the last year. Problem is you ignore all the people who see this kind of thing comming, who know that new games come with problems. Some people know this and willingly pay to test out the game, others pretend that a flawless game will be released and get pissed that it isnt. Im not saying that funcom wasnt shady about what to expect before the game launched. But dont play the innocent gamer who was scammed by the evil p2p game company. $15 a month shouldnt be a lot of money, and if it is, mabey you should be concentrating on making more money rather a game. I understand buying the box is a hit in the wallet at full release price, but thats the premium you pay to be first. A lot of people like me, knew that a groundbreaking game was going to have some serious issues at launch. I waited and walked into a great game, that was dirt cheap to buy. See your right that you gave them money to fix the game had you paid to play at launch...why not come back and see what your money has done? Remember any game based on an engin that isnt proven tried and tested is going to have issues at launch, you preordering the box is a crap shoot that your going to get a solid game. Would you buy a new car, never been road tested by the public, pay for it before test driving it, in the hopes that youll be the first guy on the block with it? That is what you did when you played at launch, and because of people like you the had plenty of money to keep the updates rolling in and the expansion on the horizon.
You know, I'll admit it. I was naive. AoC was the first mmo I participated in launch for. I quit WoW almost a year before AoC because just the hype of AoC revealed how shallow WoW was. Now I'm not a complete idiot (just a partial one) I expected bugs. I forgave bugs. However the problem with AoC at launch wasn't "Oh look at the problems we couldn't have discovered until we had a massive stress tess of a live playerbase on the live client!" They launched too soon. They launched, sold and accepted subscriptions for a game that was still in development counting on people to say "Oh well, all new mmo's launch buggy." Sorry, buggy sloppy coding is acceptable, but purposely deceiving a playing customer base to pay for incomplete content is not. |

Just because either you or large amount of people paid and left doesn't mean to say no matter how many people makes it right. All those millions of people playing WoW doesn't make it the best game ever for all those people who don't play it anymore. The company have always had $30-$40 Million in cash in the bank from before release to now. Money I doubt was a factor in the release, just poor management. The strategy, the sell, the hype was all good, the product could of been better. For sure. We are talking about a video game here, not a life investing purchase.
C'mon now Avery, video games are serious business, don't ya know?

Let the buyer beware imo. You just have to take a quick glance around these forums to discover the pervading wisdom of waiting a while after release to try an mmo. You didn't do this, and you payed to play a game that wasn't ready. MMOs wouldn't be willing to release games that aren't ready, if people like you weren't willing to pay for games that aren't ready. Why should a person in the new market for a new mmo (or someone looking to return to the game) care that someone who didn't do their research got burned with an unfinished game a year ago? Answer is they shouldn't, and probably don't. It doesn't come down to what a game was like at release, it comes down to what a game is like NOW. I'm nearing the end of Tortage (only got the trial so far), but I've seen enough to think this game might be worth my money. It's good enough NOW, and that's all I care about. MUNDO!! |

HOGWASH!!!!
You can't assume that people are uninformed about subscribing to ADVERTISED CONTENT. Again, I'm sure half the people who blame the gamer are dev plants (DPs). A game that provides it's own hype and fails to deliver said hype is out-right lying! If your wallet has money that you can throw away, please consider paypal'ing me. I spend money on something that delivers exactly what it hypes, what the package reads, and what I have been led to believe by the company selling it...
THATS WHY I DRINK KOOLAIDE... NO GIMMICKS!!! Unless you want to account for the fact that it's tart out of the package...hmmm... |

Not sure if you're replying to me. A marketing team shouldn't be lying about a game, but neither should a playerbase blindly believe a game will be everything it's hyped up to be. History has shown that mmos don't work that way, and you don't need to be particularly into the genre to know that. The reason it keeps happening is because people (like the fellow I quoted) keep paying for unfinished content. Hey I did it too. I bought WAR the day it came out, thinking it would be something more than it was. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped, and I quit before too long, but I don't hold an irreparable grudge against the game. If I saw evidence in the future that WAR would deliver something I wanted in a game, I'd have no hesitation in resubbing. I also bought shoes not too long ago, that weren't as comfortable as I'd hoped. You can bet I'm not wasting my time on the manufacturers forums screaming blue murder about an unethical lying company that didn't deliver shoes that fit my specific podiatric requirements.
tldr: Get over it. MUNDO!! |

No, there are now more than ever of these invisible walls within maps, making the game feel very plastic. After every new patch you find yourself bumping into new walls were before you were free to roam, and don't get me started on the stupid little hills that you cannot climb. Funcom seem to be paranoid that you may find a way around the inevitable death they have set up for you. |

WAS NOT READY AND WE WERE LEAD TO BELEAVE IT WAS. If we (500+/-k) LIED TO. Now its Ready. It should have has a Release date of 7/1/09 +/- not last year. Keep telling the everone that makes games that this type of action is ok. And in the future more games that are not ready will come out and thay will tell you that thay are ready. NOW LITTLE TOMMY GET YOUR HAND OUT OF THE COOKIES.( SHACK YOUR FINGER AT HIM AND TALK MEAN.) Sorry in my day (ops most of you will not understand) Little Tommy got his "A" hit and sat in a corner. I understand that most of you will pick this apart also and all the time missing the point. (Mom and Dad shock there finger didn't thay.)
Its Ready. Play the game have fun. But DO NOT TRY AND TELL ME THAT THIS WAS MY PROBLEM AND I BROUT IT APON MYSELF.

What are you guys saying? That advertisers are not the torch bearers of truth?
And I was just standing here in a stylish Clooney-like way drinking my Nespresso, keeping my coke ready in the fridge in case I wanna run smilingly along the beach with hot chicks.
Ps I love teeny-bopper caps-lock generals in general chat |

Again bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah Attact the little guy in red to protect the big guy with the money. bah.bah, bah, bah Call the little guy in red NAMES and say he has a problem to defened that that can not be defeneded. For those of you that understand that what that company did was wrong. My bad spelling and colorful statements, I can only hope it will help you see that the people attacting me can not defened what they know to be wrong. The game was not ready for release and thay know it. To add to the last statement, "very little to no custormer support". We all know that you can not defened this game by attacking me. So go play your Aoc.( ops the last person didn't say he played did he.) (Didn't think I would see that did you?) Pay your money. ( To help them out.) PS The purpose of a forum is to openly talk about the good and bad of a game. (Not of the people posting on it.)

Well your assumption is that people are paying to play a terrible game, like they dont know any better or are somehow brainwashed by a comparativly small global company. The people who are paying are paying because they want to play the game, they get some sort of enjoyment out of it. You may have payed to play a terrible game but that was your choice, especially if you preorderd and wanted to play first, before the state of the game was fully known. It sounds like from your posts that you had a terrible experience at launch, and are taking that experience, ignoring any positive feedback, and focusing on what happend a year ago as reason to boycot a pretty fun game. Its like paying to go see a movie, disliking it, then holding a year long grudge against that movie for taking your money..."poor me, im innocent consumer, big evil company whith lots of money tricked me" .... please.... if $15 a month, and whatever you paid for box, was to you,an important long term ivestment, as you act like it is, then you should have done your homework, done some reserch, and at least let some player reviews from launch inform you to the status of the game. My guess is that this isnt the first time this has happend to you or others who get into mmorpg tantrums. So buck up, take it like a man, you spent under $100 on a game and didnt like it, spending money responsibly is part of being an adult, learn from it.

The launch can hardly be compared to that, a theatre will give you refund if you walk out half way and ask for your money back. Fun Com earned it's bad reputation, most of the launch players left the game like it was a burning building. Trying to pretend it never happened makes you look foolish. A country raised New Zealand girl can kill, bleed, gut, skin and butcher a sheep in about 40 minutes, the sheep are bigger than a large person ... so be careful about pissing off a NZ country girl. |
