ss or it isn't real. I'm not believeing anything AV puts on paper, they'll have to show me pictures/videos before I'm going to believe their BS.

The fact that they are releasing an "expansion" at this point is far from confidence inspiring imho.

The game still has issues plagueing it that have been present since launch, if anything an expansion should be at least another six months away.

AV digging there grave even deeper with this move, in a vain attempt to grasp at remaining subs, and entice some old ones into coming back.

I'll give them credit where it is due though, that's the single smartest piece of marketing they have come up with yet.

Can anyone who has "tested" this expansion post?  I'd like to know how smoothly the expansion plays.

There is one, who's next.

On a serious note, I don't get the facination with player housing.

I must confess, IF they pull off what they have on that link for the expansion... they will have helped themselves dramatically.

It is sad that they had to lie and scam for the last 4 months instead of just admit the truth.

The real game is not ready yet.

The NA server will be a lot closer to what should have released back on Feb. 25th.  They should have told everyone that bought the game then that they were paying to finish Beta-testing the game.

Oh well, it's not like those who did buy it can't say they weren't warned.  We did our best to tell people that the game was still in Beta.

It will be interesting to watch how this turns out over the next few months.  This is a nice update for DarkFall.  They have indicated that a lot of the missing stuff might actually be included now.  With that comes more bugs and fixes though... so we will wait and see how they manage it all.

Unfortunately for DarkFall players... the past performance is not very encouraging.

So, as predicted by many, Aventurine has included previously promised features that weren't available at release (Weather and player housing) , have implemented a number  of changes and tweaks that probably should have been in at release, based on closed beta feedback and the missing open beta, and a smattering of nice QoL features (new weapons, a new mount, portals, auto-crafting, etc..).

Are there new classes, new land masses, new dungeons, new races, etc..?  No.  In other words, it's not really an expansion, but a big patch.

All that being said, the patch does indeed look very promising and seems to have a lot of fun, necssary components.  Personally, I'm most curious about this little blurb:

"Houses offer house recall and can be upgraded to offer you benefits such as the capability of sharing your house with friends, the option of having a harvestable garden or a private workbench, and much more. Many feature an open window you can use to trade through more safely."

To me, this clearly means that nobody can enter your house except for you and certain, specified friends.  The window means you can essentially use the house as a brick-and-mortar store, trading only through the open window, which would grant some protection, but not necessarily guaranteed protection.   That seems pretty cool and makes the game a litlte more sandboxy, IMO.  It still doesn't seem like you can just build your house anywhere you want, but it's a good first step.

So, the obvious joke:

Given how many of the features they listed on their website actually made it into the game, might be fun to take odds on each feature and whether it is actually in the expansion :P

On a more serious note, looks like some pretty ambitious and interesting additions. Not so sure about the "Title Quests" and elemental weapons, but maybe a sign that they are looking at the game as a whole (PvP and PvE). I'm curious to see how this pans out.

Tasos made mention of "test servers" but as far as I know there is nobody from the public participating on them.  I think he is referencing internal testing.

There was zero public testing of the new content.

It will be dropped onto the live server and hope for the best.

Then supposedly 1 week later the NA server will launch with the same content.

I predict a very "interesting" week for current DarkFall players.

The village system seems like its going to be fantastic.

Even a small guild can charge in and claim a village when the timer is on if they are smart about it. For the next 6 hours they will get free money. This should encourage a lot of small scale PvP

They increased the speed of ships. In combination with easier to get resources and cash this should make sea battles more common.

They automated crafting and allow bulk buying from NPCs

Spell and Skill books will be VERY handy for new players. Guilds will have stock piles so when a new player joins they will be given/sold a lot of books to help them catch up.

There is a LOT in this expansion, more than I think anyone was expecting. I will wait until 2moz evening to see how it goes. If things are going well I will resub before the weekend.

i agree 100% ... and i might even give the game a second try if they survive and ever release a trial even tho i still think they are thieving liars. :)

if they continue to work on df like this for another year it could become a really good game.

Let me just wade through all the cynicism here for a minute...

Wow, I impressed with this expansion, this is literally player feedback being implemented into the game. Even the jump-casters should be happy with this.

The houses look awesome and the village system is a great idea and I think it will be fun to have neighbors, even though they will prolly try to kill you, still this is type of game I love playing.

Comes out tommorrow then maybe another week to get the bugs out prolly, I'm very excited about this.

I agree.

I also thought this part on the housing quite interesting:

"The individual house ownership doesn't actually change but the village itself generates tax for its owner. Holding one or more villages generates direct gold income, potentially earning your clan thousands of gold every hour. "

So, it appears that once a house is "claimed" then it is yours forever.  The Village that your house belongs to and hence where it's taxes goes can change, but the house is forever.

I wonder how the hardcore PvP are going to justify that part?  Especially since with the part that you quoted above it does indeed look like houses are a safe-zone for their owner.

We shall see how many of the Aventurine faithful who said one thing last week will change with the winds this week.   The one constant is that Aventurine does no wrong, so that will mean they will have to completely reverse their stance from last week.

So... any of the fans who have figured out what Tasos meant with "feature complete" the last time? Because im still wondering.

Seems that the forum-pvp will be back to the glory of old days soon...

Interesting thoughts on the housing.  I also agree with your assessments.

Regarding the comments on the fans, it's interesting to note that the official boards thread is now filled with a ton of sycophantic "ZOMGQTFBBQSAUCE I R WANT AVENTURIN'S BABEHS!" posts.  While I'm impressed with the patch, in general, I think that's taking it a bit too far ;).
