It will just turn around to bite me in the ass like SWG did. I won't do that again.

I have ever confidence this game will capture none of what made SWG great before it was destroyed by SoE, I believe this game will be just another generic MMO like WOW, aimed at kids and the lowest common denominator of PC users; The only difference being you have jedi running around everywhere.

I believe being developed by bioware is irrelevent in the grand scheme of lucasarts pursuing profit, as such the pressure to great a generic and dumbed down "accessible" game with low end graphics will be overwhelming.

Also this game is automatical fail for three reasons:
1. EA owns bioware.

2. Lucasarts hate the PC.

3. The graphics are cartoon city.

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone.

Actually it will have the most important aspect of what made SWG great. People.

MMO developers have forgotten that. They just create online themeparks where players are shuttled through, without giving them the tools or the reasons to truly interact in a RPG fashion.

Hmm, not what I expected to see reading the thread title. I thought you wanted to keep your excitement low, but went overboard with pessimism.

Instead I see yet another person giving a bad name to SWG veterans (if there is such a thing).

I have some news for you. Forget that this game has the Star Wars IP and just think it as a Mass Effect MMO. Do you still feel as frustrated?

Also, if a company decides (and gets approved) to make a pure sandbox Middle Earth MMO, do you think it would be normal for me to come whining on these forums about them not having the storytelling elements of LOTRO?

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off.

Far too true.  I guess I am hoping that TOR will be something different.  If I wanted another themepark then I'd play one of the hundreds that are out there already.

I have to be honest, all I've heard about this game are things that make me groan out loud. How do they expect to keep the content up, when they're all like 'do a raid once and never a gain gear grind is terrible blah blah blah' and another dev is like 'i hate raiding in wow, i got to level 20 and quit' what kind of quote is that? that is a SHOCKING quote. no matter their writers, modellers etc, they way theyve said they are doing it, they cant poissibly have enough content, unless you hit cap reroll, constantly. thus defeating the point of an mmo. never do a raid twice? so its going to be piss easy? What if i LIKE going back at later gear levels. WHAT IF I LIKE CHARACTER PROGRESSION and what if I like gearing up. fuck all this story they are writing, its fucking STAR WARS IT DOES NOT NEED IT. ps never palyed SWG please dont lump me with that crowd.

Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

My word what a waste of electrons. Turn your computers off and go outside you've got nothing to say. Will this game be good or bad? Who knows it's like trying to decide if the 2029 ford mustang will have enough cupholders. There is no information. Just ignore the game until it arrives. Then make an informed decision.

Why should they? Players are looking for a fun, accessible game to kill some time. Developers should be responsive to their customers and give them wat they want.

Now that Mythic is getting their claws into this game, it might very well turn into the usual crappy, hardcore MMO like all the others, only with better story lines.

Why the hell would Bioware want to bring in this company for advice when they are trying to get away from all of the old school crap that already exists.

I had high hopes for this game being different, not just the story, but the way it played, the emphasis on casual and solo play with optional grouping and Mythic has proven to be the exact opposite and that does not bode well for the original direction of this game.

Then you play some other game.  We don't want any of that crap in SWTOR.  We don't want another MUD / DIKU / EQ rehash.  There are plenty of raiding / gear focused / forced grouping games already, lets do something different with this game please.

1.) Are you serious about thinking WAR was hardcore?  What do all of you 'casuals' really want?  PvE where the game plays itself, and epic phat lewtz rain from the sky every time you log in?  WAR was about as casual as it gets... hence it's failure.  It claimed to be a game for hardcore PvPers, but turned out to be a cheap WoW knock off for casuals.  No game has come out in years that did not target all of you whiney 'casuals'.  WoW made millions from casuals... everyone is terrified to not attempt to appease them.  And each and every time a company hedges their bets on a WoW clone, they fail to even come close to Blizzard's success.

2.) Bioware has no say in who comes in to 'help' them with SWTOR.  They are owned by EA, like Mythic.  EA has already stated that both studios are merging - making this an inevitable move.  Cry now or cry later, it was bound to happen eventually.

And all of that 'old school' crap you bash, is the foundation for every mmo on the market.  Yes, even *gasp* the ones you like.

3.) Basically your final paragraph illustrates that you are a person who wants to play a solo adventure, but online.  Presumably so you can wave to other 'people' playing, but not ever actually play with them.  If so, MMOs are not for you.

The only thing that Mythic 'proved', was that there is a market beyond the casual "have everything handed to me" market you represent.

If you think SWTOR will be anything BUT casual, regardless of Mythic's "help", you have serious issues.

I'm utterly shocked that so many people, under the banner of 'casual', are so utterly opposed to grouping.  I've never heard so much seething hatred for having to group with someone to do something.  What's the point of playing a multiplayer game if you arent actually going to play with anyone else?

To play with people you know, and not be forced to group up with random people if your friends happen to not be online.

That's why they invented LAN/Direct IP.

And if I want to play an MMO that does not support that? Exactly.

Grouping does have some problems, i recently have tried some older games where mostly the population was around the higher levels and trying to find groups to do lower level group quests was a very long or impossible job, geting a high level to do it with you is sort of missing the point and a bit boring

Why would you play an MMO if you only want to play with 5 people. That COMPLETELY defeats the purpose. What happens when you want to raid, or progress your character when you hit level cap, you usually cannot do that with just your 5 friends. Not to mention PvP matches or open world PvP.

If that's what you interested in buy an Xbox or a PS3.

The sole reason you would play multiplayer over singleplayer or LAN/Direct IP games is because you enjoy the fact that you are not the sole real person playing in that virtual world, and you probably enjoy the social, economical and gameplay aspects that are bundled with a large community.
