I just hope I am not the only person that looks for a new MMO and wishes DAOC still had a population

Right there with ya. my friend.

I am often amazed that some gaming company can't put together a new game that combines the PVE/RvR experience that DAoC gave to its audience.

I'm watching Fallen Earth for just that reason.......

i feel you man

i've gone b ack to daoc a few times and had fun in little bursts, but i've been there and done that in that game

i've played in 8 man gank squads in every realm, i've played stealther in every realm, battle bard solo killing tanks and stealthers.... etc..etc..

nothing left for me with that game, i love it... but its just ugh to me at this point

i don't think there will ever be anything as fun for me again, and i'm feeling more and more like my mmo days are about to be non-existant

Couldn't agree more, nothing has been as much fun really. Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed MMO's since DAoC, just not in the same way, as such I'm coming to the conclusion that will always be the case.

Playing: Nothing
Retired: Runescape, DAoC, SWG, Planetside, Guild Wars, WoW, EVE, Battleground Europe, LOTRO, AoC, WAR.
Tried: Pretty much everything!

DAoC is my #2 game, after pre-PoP EQ. I would still probably give it a month's sub every now and then if I hadn't been retarded and deleted my character all those years ago. The ONLY character I ever regretted deleting.

ionlyneedit, I am in the same boat.  I wish I would never had left.  The days of roaming through the catacombs and the keep raids.  Unfortanaly they were not able to make WAR as fun as DAoC.

Like most people in this thread, I think DAoC was the best MMO ever to have been made.

I recently went back to Classic where I have chars on all 3 realms, and you know what? There is still action..

Granted, it's not as heavily populated as it once was, but there are still keep takes, relic raids and  RVR going on.

I've also noticed the numbers creeping up, probably in anticipation of the new Ywain server.

It's not dead yet!

I agree. There is something about DAoC that really captivated me when I first loaded it up and entered the world that Mythic created. Some points in my opinion that at one time made this a wonderful game....

1. No X-realming - I will always remember what it was like to not be able to play with the enemy. Building a strong community was one thing, but unless you had a second account, which a majority of us did not, you took comfort in the fact that you fought along side your realm-mates for a common goal, and they fought beside you as well. The enemy was a mystery, you never talked to them or interacted other than simple emotes should you meet one in the frontiers or bg's. For some reason I have yet to find a game that had a community as solid as DaOC had in its prime simply because of this fact.

2. Three factions - The triangle of war worked perfectly. The threat of another enemy invading your lands while one enemy was in yours kept the keep warfare from getting monotanous. Or better yet, the enemy that is invading you have their lands invaded at the same time made it really crazy, a question of offense, or should they go back on defense. Each realm had their own unique classes instead of mirrors.

3. PvE to PvP/RvR - This was a game which had the best of both worlds, you got to enjoy the PvE aspect of the game and work hard to get level 50. All the time knowing the awesome endgame awaiting you at the end as a reward. At least this is what made it fun for me. Getting in a group and rolling through dungeons, talking to the group as we all killed mobs and watching those bubbles come and go. Before the instances this aspect of the game was great IMO. Safe at home, dangerous in the frontier zones, is was a perfect design that catered to most if not all.

4. The world itself - From the main cities all the way to the ambient background music, it actually worked and immersed you into the enviroment. Watching the sun go down and playing in the nighttime, crickets were programmed to fire it up. Little things like that really made you feel " a part" of the world Mythic created for you. Although it may be dated graphically, then and now it is still a beautiful game for its age.

Great post Drnegative, some great points I've not heard for a while.

The music in SI was awesome, so relaxing.

And as for the classes not being mirrors, well unfortunately that is kind of what we ended up with..(archers?) Mythic did listen to their community, and once they started messing with the class balances, it never stopped. I would like to have seen Mythic stick to their guns and make people play the game the way they made it.

Yes, Mythic made some mistakes - ToA imo -not for the content, but for how it affected the community, forcing spawn camps etc, but pre ToA were the best gaming years of my life.

As I said, I still play as I think it is still the best MMO out there at the moment, but even though it's prettier it's a shadow of it's former glory.

Well late me say i like this I have playd alot off MMO, at release and under beta. But I am still allways returning to daoc, thou there are no players, thou i get bord again after a few weeks, and then end up whit holding a breack. And then all over again and again.

Daoc need a overrun yes, and daoc misses alot of cool stuff yes. But the idere whit daoc i really nice:
3 realm fhigting, there is allways a unballance wieght in the frontier whit a 3 realm. The sigse it freely, and really nice put together. The classes are " simple ", but its more the way u build ur class, and abilietes. from pve, quests, and rvr.
The combat system is still the best out there, realy activ and powerfull, thou there should never have been things like stick workable in rvr: stick / face.

And yes there are magical skill that should not have been there aswell, and the same goes for classes. But still.
To all the other " NEW ERA MMO GAMES " out there, comon weak up and smeal the coffe. You have a LONG WAY guys. :)

Dark Age of Camelot without a doubt holds a BIG chunk opf my gaming heart.

Just going into the RvR zones, waiting forever on those freakin druids, wizards, whatever to come out and start the process, not knowing what was in store once you poofed to the other side...awesome.

I am not going to hold ANYTHING that has gone on since then against Mythic...aside from the fact after 2 interviews I still never got the "dream" job.

**Side Note** I don't think the merger of BioWare and Mythic can be a total bad thing. These forums are all doom and gloom and we know that, I hope, HOPE that BioWare will still keep the reigns and the input Mythic has comes from the fact they have released online games...might not have made sence but I think it will work out....*crossed fingers*...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
