And like I said, its a vicious circle, people leaving because of too small population. How is it supposed to grow, if people don´t stay? *deep sigh*

I was on a Ryzom alt account last night and Uni chat was moving as fast as Eve rookie chat lol. People are playing this game it just has a small community. Honestly im surprised people say they can find a group. It took me and my little skill rank 50 Zori healer like 10 minutes to find a hunting party that lasted almost three hours. You have to try to get a team. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

While im sure there are more people playing at higher levels there are not many people in the newb zones and there are a lot of Missions you need a group for and you cant really get one going. I think when this happens it most likely turns people off because they feel like they are forced to group. Which as for me I don't mind, I say the more grouping the better. I just started crafting till I can find a party for those missions though so there are still ways to play without a group. |

My little newb character is around the Zori starting city and last night I had two other melee character in team with me. I made sure they had the taunt skill and we were good to go. I can usually find a team of two to four people quickly if im willing to raise healing. its a different story when I go melee but it could be done even without a healer as long as you kill fast enough and taunt off eachother. I skipped the starting island and have been grouping from skill level 10 on lol.

Yeah im still on the newb island so maybe there isn't many people on the island or something. Yeah im still trying to figure out what kind of character im trying to make. Right now Im using a sword and shield and I have a few magic spells. I kinda was going for a DnD Druid that I had in NWN. |

Or do you mean WoW is like Ryzom since Ryzom came out a month or 2 before WoW did. You know there are more things to sandbox games than being able to build a house. I can make any kind of character I want, I can even customize my own spells and other actions, the crafting is the best I've used in any game and Ive pretty much played every MMO. If you think being able to jump is freedom then IDK what to say. The only freedom that gives you is to jump over a fence or down a cliff. I think there is plenty of freedom in this game. You can even make your own scenarios, how sweet is that? |

Now taming and building a house is a requirement to be a sandbox? What about the games ability to change the lore forever through events? spell customization system, Ryzom ring and the flexibility of the faction systems? The open ended crafting system? I have no problem with you not liking the game but seriously saying Ryzom isnt a sandbox or Open ended game is off.

Ryzom is amazing! You need a certain amount of wits and brain power to survive on Atys. It's not for all. Population is a bit low atm but that can easily grow with time now that a decent owner is running the show. ------------------------------------------------ |

I would just recommend that Ryzom's defenders be a little more diplomatic when defending their game.
I know when I tried Ryzom out it was quite a handful to get used to, and there was a certain "if you don't get or appreciate the game in 10 days (or however long the trial was) then you're just not good enough for us anyway" vibe from the community.
I'm seeing a bit of that same cornered-raccoon defensiveness here, and I gotta tell you, I don't think it helps your cause.
That said, I really think a game as complex as Ryzom would benefit from a month's free trial. It's very, very complex and if you don't throw yourself in whole hog in two weeks, it'll be hard to get a handle on.
I know I kept trying it out, getting a headache and logging out to come back in a day or two and not have a clue where I left off. I would begin again, get a headache again and repeat the process. The game's learning curve is probably the steepest I've seen, and could very well be rewarding if a person had ample time to get a handle on it.
WoW has a 10 day trial, but quite honestly you figure out the core of the game in an hour, max. So 10 days is plenty. 14 days defnitely wasn't enough for me and Ryzom.
Anyway, turtle up and flame away. |

Not sure when you tried it, but the trial was 3 weeks long when I first started a few months back. The learning curve is definitely steep. I'm still figuring things out a few months into the game. There's no way you can figure out everything in the game in 10 days, but the tutorial will teach you all the basics. Enough to at least get you started. Current: None |
