After playing this game for some time now  2-3yrs on and off and a few new owners of the game lol...i took time away from the game fed up like others of the stand still ,no new contents..no updates game.

I decided to take another look at this game and put my subs in ...what hit me the most was the total lack of players in game now that you have to pay to play! i knew that the population on Ryzom would drop but this looks bad for Ryzom with a few new players finding it hard to team up and  now with the new Event "Kitten invasion" going on for the next few weeks new players on the main lands are going to have a rough time of it ingame (some new players have walked away from the game already ).

When this game came out a few years back it stood out from the other games ....Now it  just  looks old and  tired  Wating for the plug to be pulled and now  players   just have to many good games to go to  ..yes you will hear from the die hard Ryzom lovers that its the "Ryzom is one of a kind " but without new content its just not gonna bring fresh and old players to the game...Only time will tell.

I've read similar reviews to just about every other MMO out. I haven't had any problems finding a group when needed. I still haven't reached the mainland yet though, so maybe it really is a ghost town out there.

Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: GW2, ArcheAge

Hey man Just telling it how it is...as for Bashing the game..well what ever...its been mugged that many times by the Owners of the game that its on it knees for standing still  so long all these years! Ask those who hung around all those years waiting on Broken promises from the Ryzom owners.

I have to say that so far I have not had any trouble finding people to help with things, or people to answer my questions. This is coming from a new player who is still on the trial. Really liking this game, wishing I had found it sooner.

Coming from WoW,WAR, and AoC- I can say this is the most original MMO I have ever played and extremely fun to play. From the people I have talked to many are on the free trial themselves, so I don't see how the population can be dropping that much with so many new people coming to the game.

If we get out of this "people leaving because there's not enough people", Ryzom has more than enough potential to continue.

Well, I don´t have to ask anyone else, because I´m on of these

And while we´ve had many disappointments over the last few years, we´ve also had loads of fun and excitement in this game.

We´ve come to build up a great and helpful international community that really loves what they´ve got and wishes nothing more than the game to continue. Of course we "Ryzombies" want more and new contend too, but we too understand that a company that´s been through so many bad times simply takes some time to get back on its feet again.

We´re nothing if not patient.

Sure, some will always demand more, faster, better and nicer things in ways that a re far less than appropriate.

They´re perfectly entitled to do so. But they are forgetting that these new Owners are not Blizzard, or Sony, or any other conglomerate giant. These guys are just a bunch of people who try to make a dream come true.

You´re not supposed to believe me, or to support them for that. Why would you?

If you don´t like the game, you don´t like the game. It´s that simple.

I do like it very much. And I will continue to play and pay for it because of that.

That´s all, nothing more, nothing less.

And while I personally probably had even more disappointments associated with the game as all other players out there, for I worked for a certain German company a while ago and now I´m not anymore, I don´t blame the game for my misfortune.

I gave my best, it wasn´t enough, that´s unfortunate. But so is bread always falling on the buttered side. *shrug*

I love this game and the "not run of the mill" fun it offers.

That´s why I continue playing it.

And I truly hope that you too will someday find such a "virtual home world" that fits your tastes

It is unfortunate this game lacks players; I myself enjoyed the idea of this game, but find it hard and lonely to actually play as it is.

If their was ever a surge of players i'd come back in a heartbeat.

And thus continues the vicious circle, of players leaving because of players leaving. *sigh*

If everyone leaves after ten minutes, or a day, because they encounter too few others, or because they´re too im-patient, there´ll never be someone to play with.

How come so many do say they like the islands missions and the surroundings and stuff, but don´t have the patience to just wait, or do something on their own, for a few minutes/hours until someone else tags along?

The most confusing thing to me is that even those who proudly claim they´re Solo-players do this?

*shakes head*

Of course, its a Massively Multiplayers blablabla... that implies MANY players, I know...

but for there to BE many players, players must have at least a tiny bit of patience and not leave after ten minutes of not not encountering someone.

When I tried EQ2 a few month ago, I was alone on their trial island too, and I enjoyed it.

Many players tend to do everything alone anyway, so why is it so inconceivable to just for example ask in universe chat for help, or wait for others to show up?

*sigh*

Sorry for the rant, I´m just confused on this issue.

I feel the same and already had my aggressive rant about people leaving because of low population, only making it worse. But the worst of the worst are the people who try to discourage other people from trying or playing it because the population doesn't fit their taste. It just makes me mad.

Some people seem to be actively working on preventing new people from trying the game. The only way to solve the population is to help bring new people in, not scare them away.

What do you mean 'their tastes'? It's not about tastes. There aren't enough people playing Ryzom. Nothing to do with tastes. Unless people have tastes that involve games that don't get enough players to be viable.

(Just for the record, this isn NOT aimed at the opener of this thread!!)

Hmyeah, that´s the most weird thing.

The blame alayws ends up on those who try to convince others not to be too quick in their judgement. *sigh*

I apaolgize again in all due form for my rant, but I simply don´t understand why these things are this way.

Like Sherkalyn said. Those who state "Game XYZ is crap, because I don´t like feature ZXY of it."

Do always seem to be far more convincing than those who say, that its not a gamebreaker, or otherwise not exemplary for the rest of the gameplay.

True, in every game, people like us tend to get pretty defensive about such issues, but most of the time we don´t even deny the truth or value of the complaint, but still we get dressed down as "Fanboys/Girls" and "not objective enough" (as if the critic was ever truly objective) or just generally do receive lots of ridicule and contempt.

"If your have nothing negative to say, stay away from forums." someone once said.

And interestingly enough, most tend to do so. Those contend with a game, most seldom say so anywhere.  They just play and well, are contend with it.

It seems sadly true and fitting, because once you dare getting into an argument of the subjective values you´re doomed to fail.

People defend their negative opinions with tooth, nail and flame, down to the personal level. As I´ve often enough encountered, but still the blame and most of the negativity ends up on those who tried to convince the critic otherwise.

It´d be almost worth a scientific paper, if I was in psychology.

Anyway, I can only state at this time that I really meant what I said in this thread.

But I´m sorry to have derailed it.

The necessary amount of players for Ryzom to be viable is far, far smaller now than at Nevrax or GF time. The dev team is reduced and administrative costs have been severly cut (Cyprus localisation). I think that WG have good chance to make some profit with the actual population in the 3 communities.

The necessary amount of players to have a nice gaming experience is about personnal taste. I personnaly prefer a game where in most case I have someone rezzing me in 2 minutes despite of the distance than a game where I see 10 guys walk beside me without healing me (like in Wow)...

But for sure, more people will be a good thing.

It's a real shame that subs took so long to come into place. There was a huge influx of players when the servers first came back to life. Slowly players seemed to get bored with the lack of new content and subs, leaving one by one (guilty) I often wonder if it would have been better if they hadn't have made the servers live until subs and the recently released content updates where ready. Then again if you don't have a player base testing your servers how can you get them running smoothly? I've always said i'm waiting for more content to arrive before I return and with reading about the recent tower event that did give me a taste of the ryzom 'buzz' again. Unfortunately I have no time to play with my current RL comitments. *sigh*

I don't doubt with a few more months old players that have left due to lack of content will soon get bored with their current mmo and come back for another taste of ryzom. The population does seem low at the moment but I firmly believe the new owners are doing an excellent job of restoring ryzom to the game it should have been. As long as WG can make ends meat I don't see why the population won't grow with time.

This is a game that's been bought back from the dead and has been through many downturns. This may seem like reason enough not to play but the new dev team have made far more progress in a far shorter time than any previous owner, there is light at the end of the tunnel! it will take some time to get ryzom up from its butt and back to running at full speed. I'd say ryzom is currently taking a 'brisk' walk. If you liked the game and the population isn't enough for you then come back at a later date and see if the population is more suitable for your taste. As previously stated it is a vicious circle with people leaving because the player base isn't big enough but ryzom will get there in the end.

Kudos to the die hards and new players for keeping ryzom alive.

Hi there, I'm new to Ryzom, in my second month of play I think, not totally sure because I'm having too much fun to keep count.

I'm loving Ryzom because of the people that are in it, they truly love the game for itself, (for the most part anyway, there are always exceptions), when i went through Silas there were quite a few new people doing it at the same time as me, genuinely new ones for the most part, and i recently did an alt on Silas to show the game to a friend, similar numbers of new players. Yesterday I saw two players i hadnt seen before, but my guildies knew them, they were old time players returning to see Atys again. Not everything is doom and gloom, new players are taking up the game (me) and old players are returning.

My friends taking up the game too :)

F2P/P2P excellent thread.

Meet people from all over the world... then kill them.

7/10/09 3:05:35 AM#19

It's a little depressing that so few people came back to this game after so many advocated for monthly fees on the forum and claimed to be sitting on the fence, "waiting to know where we stand," and that sort of thing.

It's interesting that the OP came here just to attack Ryzom on one of the chief concerns MMO fans have when considering a new game, but made no attempt to correct the problem for himself by actually looking for someone to play with. Here on a subforum with dozens of posters and hundreds of readers! If you're playing alone and don't want to be playing alone, why not do something about it?

What may doom Ryzom is that endgame players will feel slighted if new content isn't targeted to them, but it's earlier in the game - after you stop learning and have seen the world, but before PVP becomes a factor - that may need the attention. For me it was the mid-game where the novelty wore off, things became repetitive, and I started to notice I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. In a nice big guild this stuff might not bother you, and I was having a blast, but after mine split up I found myself increasingly logging in just to run up and down the beach trying to think of something I might want.

This game's player base is famous for telling people to "make your own fun," and in fairness they are often forthcoming in helping out with that - but it seems to me it will to take an organized effort on the part of the players to get people over that mid-level hump. High level players must understand that most people who found the game compelling on a gut level are already among them at the endgame. Those who didn't get on board years ago are necessarily going to be a much harder sell. Meanwhile, if you want people to play with - SAY SO. There are thousands of people at this website who are bored and can't decide what to play and would jump at the opportunity to get involved in something new.

Well, do you? Or are you just here to rub salt in Ryzom's wounds?

Great post Einexile, thank you.

But sometimes posts like these remind me of a certain Gary Larson Cartoon:

An old "Lone Ranger" is sitting in a comfy chair at home reading an indian dictionary and for the first time discovring that,

"Kemo Sabe", is "an Apache expression for a horse's rear end.".

Sometimes I suspect that "Veteran Player" in the minds of many newbes equals "@$$hole".

But what they always tend to forget, is the fact that most "experienced" players, did go through one and the same problems and yes experiences to be where they are now. And most of them had their fair share of frustrations, trial and tribulations.

Funnily, most Newbes do regard even those who´ve come only short month or weeks before them as "Veterans" and often seem to me full of mistrust, at least on the boards. Or more accurate, those that are as vocal on boards like these tend to show this kind of behavior.

All we do is trying to give sound and proved advice. And for that we´re nearly stoned to death. We´ve all gone through this, we´ve all been there (and probably done that, Ha Ha, thank you very much), but we´re trying to share this experience, not to insult anyone by saying : "Try to find help."

It always puzzles me to no end, if Newbes to a MMO (remember, "MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER) become aggressive and act insulted when we suggest finding help. Granted population is low at the moment, but its never been so low as to find absolutely no-one at all to group with. We´ve got prove here in the posts of some other New Players above. Strangely they DID find groups and strangely they have a great time playing. Maybe they´re under some kind of hallucination?

Who knows?

Anyway, it´s a fact that we know what we´re talking of and just like the "generations conflict" at home in the real world, it´ll probably stay the same way forever. Or did you believe your parents every word, when they told you to be careful and home a t 10, because they really cared for you?
