Gameplay before graphics.

I would have to say either Lineage II or Horizons...

I didn't expect anything from Lineage II so i wasn't too dissapointed...

I expected a lot from Horizons and was VERY dissapointed...just a horrible blasphemous game!

Last Chaos for me. I left the game immediately when I realized my pet needs to eat ore every hour .

If you have fun playing WoW consistently then you are beyond hope already.

WoW wasn't the worst MMO I've ever played. All the F2P games that try to copy WoW exactly were worse.

Fixed that for ya.

I liked WoW, but was disgusted with the community and a lot of fellow players/guildmates.  This game brings out the worst in a LOT of people.

AoC was the worst big commercial game I've played recently.  I grew up reading REH.  What a let down this POS was.

Ya people who actually enjoy what they spend their money on are morons. Are you going to insult people who play checkers next?

Probably a 3 way tie for me between Shadowbane, Fury, and Pirates of the Burning Sea.

You think WoW's community was bad?  It has nothing on EverQuest.  Any game that focuses on raiding, guilds or PvP end up having terrible communities.  At least in WoW, guilds can't block access to content like they did in EQ.  The politics and backstabbing and kill stealing and elitist attitudes in EQ were the worst I had ever experienced in any game, bar none.

Besides, we all know that the larger the community, the greater the chance of meeting asshats.

Granted, WoW is a piece of crap, but I'm really kind of tired of people bagging on the newbies.  We were all newbies once, we all acted like the stupid little 12-year old idiots that we see running around in games.  Most of us just don't remember it.  When's the last time anyone took a newbie under their wing and taught them how to play the game, how to act, what to do and what not to do, etc?  It's no wonder these people act like morons, they get absolutely no guidance and any correction they get is usually a stream of profanity.

If you want people to stop acting like idiots, you need to show them what acceptable behavior actually is.  Otherwise, you get what you've taught.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, lots more
Now Playing: Skyrim
Hope: None

Hellgate London (should have been great), and Tabula Rasa had to be the worst for me.

Another one for the list was Auto Assault.

And for those who say WOW is a piece of crap ( I don't play any more mind you but enjoyed it in the early days) I would love to own a piece of crap just like it.

Note: I saw someone mention God's and Heroes. I really wanted that to succeed. What a shame on that one. Conceptually it was different and had a great setting.

Lookout folks, it's an MMO elitist! And a Vanguard fan at that. The double whammy.

Want to know why I play WoW? Because it is the most FUN MMO I have ever played.

You know, FUN? The reason why we play?

Sorry if my intellect is so easily amused by WoW.

Like a PC elitist, Mac elitist or console elitist, wouldn't an MMO elitist be someone who thinks MMOs are inherently superior to games of other genres? That is certainly not my position. I enjoy single-player games far more, thus far. I only think that MMOs can ultimately surpass them, some day—and, as you may have noticed, I think WoW got in the way of that, setting us back a bit.

I am also certainly not a Vanguard fan. Not since its early beta, anyway. You'll notice that, much in the way that many Star Wars Galaxies fans exclusively praise pre-CU, with Vanguard I (almost) exclusively praise pre-SOE.

As for fun: well, yeah, what do you figure I play for? I am clearly entertained by different stimuli than you.

Debating games is like debating music. You have to be aware of what is a subjective matter of taste and what can be objectively measured. If I say that a game's art style is attractive or unattractive, that is subjective; if I say that its graphics are progressive or regressive, that's objective—it's just that not everyone cares.

That wasn't my intention. I'm irritated by that as well. It was just such a massive influx that suddenly the vast majority were newcomers to the genre. Imagine every heterosexual couple on Earth producing three children in 9-27 months. 'Overwhelming' doesn't begin to describe it, and it influenced the games to come in ways I don't have to illustrate.

I do suspect that its net effect in the long run may be very positive, but its effect on the last five years, from my perspective, hasn't been.

I gota say that Darkfall takes the cake. Horrible graphics, bugs, animations sucked, crashed constantly, took forever to develop, limited sales, 50% downtime, constantly queued for hours to get to play.

Nothing beats that when it comes to shitty games.

I would have to agree, DF was one of the biggest disappointments IMO.

In other news spore kept me awake for 4 hours, Im still waiting on Diablo  3, and im currently searching for something to keep me entertained to night!

Last MMO: MO
Currently Playing : Call of Duty 2 (since there seems to be no good MMO's lately.)
Waiting for : anything

I know Fallen Earth has not come out yet. S it is hard to say its going to be back. When the final product is not out. Come on what is with a MMo coming out now with the graphics of a mid to late 1990s game graphics. I wanted to play the game. I have the beta i have played the beta but its horrible. I am not a graphics person. I have played WoW and allot of the free games that all have bad graphics and they are more fun then Fallen Earth.

Although I've been an MMO gamer for 10 years and a Blizzard fan for 14, I have to say: World of WarCraft.
Until WoW, MMOs were getting better with each generation. Gameplay, graphics, everything steadily progressed, tweaking and experimenting--evolving with each step in a very Darwinian fashion. Then Blizzard said, 'Let there be WoW!', and there was WoW. And I saw the WoW, that it was crap, and I separated the crap from my life.
WoW started the trend of lackluster graphics and mediocre gameplay with condescending mechanics being not only acceptable, but ideal.
Look at this progression:

  • Meridian 59 (1996) introduces us to graphical massively multiplayer gaming and PvP.
  • Ultima Online (1997) broadens the scope, introduces more customization, and allows players to own homes.
  • EverQuest (1999) brings us into true 3D and a new level of atmosphere and immersion.
  • Anarchy Online (2001) brings more consistent, compelling lore with the first big sci-fi setting, and better graphics.
  • Dark Age of Camelot (2001) introduces RvR and better graphics with several further improvements via expansions. Earth and Beyond (2002) brings us into space. EVE Online (2003) mercilessly crushes Earth and Beyond underfoot with a gargantuan galaxy, a full spread of gameplay options, and spectacular visuals to be kept ever up-to-date by an unforgivingly forward-thinking team. Star Wars Galaxies (2003) launches with the most community- and immersion-focused design in an avatar-based game. Oh, and better graphics. EverQuest II (2004) brings us voiced NPCs with lip-syncing, the first real inklings of story in MMO gameplay, and the best graphics to date at that time. World of WarCraft (2004) introduces obnoxious overhead icons, a new definition of pointless PvP, crappy graphics, and several million newbies. Yay?

After that, it's more of the same and even more of much worse. No one tries to progress, they just try to mimic WoW or take its approach to further extremes. Vanguard (2007) tries to reverse the regression induced by WoW and succeeds for the first two phases of beta until it loses Microsoft's funding and ultimately Sigil's dream-team. Age of Conan (2008) also tries, though hardly with Vanguard's grace. Now here I am, waiting, hoping, ranting, whining....

Lookout folks, it's an MMO elitist! And a Vanguard fan at that. The double whammy.

Well.. some people have fun playing Tic Tac Toe. Telling that people that Chess/Tabletop RPG/Videogames are a more interesting and deep fun is not a insult to these people. Still the Tic Tac Toe played take that as a insult, and feel the urge to call the "Chess/Tabletop RPG/Videogames" players something like elitist.
Well.. If that is elitist, I am elitist.

My opinion is that you  probably experienced the bad points of Shadowbane - there were many good points.  It was a Fun game, however the lag in seiges was EPIC, also respawn points were mercilessly camped.  The PvE element was also camped, but that led to some great PvP battles.  I loved the player made cities and once played for 36 hours helping to defend the city.  What drove me from it was the community of whining gankers, not the game itself.

Completely destroyed the genre.

To say WoW is the worst game is just being ignorant, it did many things right to cater to its casual customers. theres a reason why they are at the top with 11+million subscribers, granted most of them will never leave wow and only came tothe MMO genre because of that game. However there will be a certain percentage that will try other mmos when they get tired of WoW. Honestly though WoW vanilla was pretty good after the buggy release but, who didn't have a buggy release. Though it did feel that most MMOs after WoW were dumbed down so much. Its not there fault alot of people tried to copy them to get those sub numbers.

Back to the topic I'd have to agree with everyone that Horizons is the worst MMO I've played.

WoW didn't ruin the genre it improved many aspects of it. All the WoW clones that came after are the games we all think are crap and I think by now developers have learnt you can't clone WoW. To me what has gotten me down is there are no "hardcore" mmorpgs anymore that cater to my needs that're being made by high nudget developers.

WoW did do alot of things right, especially out of the gate. However, it is my opinion that by turning the main emphasis of the game into item upgrades, it transformed the community (and the communities of most games to follow) into nothing but a giant elitist loot treadmill. Hardly anything else matters to players anymore besides gear. Its really really sad.
