That's what made the idiotic Republican meme about Obama and teleprompters even dumber and more petty than it was. They're such a staple of political life for people in both major parties that making them an issue was asinine. |

Obama's far from perfect, but he's a damn sight better than having her as VP would've been. Could you imagine if McCain had gotten elected and she'd pulled this same stunt on Friday? It would have been insane. |

As far as her resignation goes, if she's not going to run a second term, then she should pass the remainder of her term to Parnell so that he can follow up as the incumbent for the next election - it's a common practice in Canadian politics. It also seems like she's getting out before she's publicly shown in the media as having limited political power as Alaska's Governor. She needs to be seen as a federal level politician and get into as much international politics as she can handle, her second biggest fault in 2008, so the sane move would be for her to skip the presidency for the 2012 election but take the senate seat away from that democrat: http://begich.senate.gov/public/ Then run in the following election. Unless she fades away, one thing is for sure, it'll be great television. |

Actually, the more I think about it, I think she resigned simply because of the attacks against her family. The left's constant attack against her children was far below the belt. This gives her time to cement her position as a conservative leader while taking care of her children. Her children will be old enough in 2012 or 2016 to allow her to spend more time in politics. Obama's term isn't even one year old and his approval ratings are already starting to tank. Right now, he'll be lucky to win a second term with all his tax increases. This will certainly destroy his chances. |

Especially ones who are dishonest. Palin also tried to get McCain's campaign to lie about her husband Todd's secessionist ties and they said no, which was part of the problem between the camps.

For this reason alone, she should never be considered for public office ever again. She more suited for a talk show or a radio show where she can craft and control the messages people are saying about her. She can handpick her own guests and make sure like Huckabee they fawn and are going to give predictable praise.
Cutting and running is not something that is looked upon with favor by Americans. |

I feel a wee bit better that other people didn't understand her speech. I must have listened to it ten times repeated over the course of the day and tried to force it to make sense every time but to no avail. I was beginning to think I was suffering from extreme early onset Alzheimers. |

What would she do the first time that papers here in the States and around the world pick apart any decision she makes, or if they talk about her husband or kids? Would she call another rambling, incoherent press conference, this time at the White House, as she announces her resignation? If she can't cope with being in the spotlight now, the Presidency is out of her league. |

Originally posted by keltic1701 Which makes the whole idea of her as a national political figure that much more hilarious. If she can't even handle running Alaska due to media scrutiny, how could she ever be expected to run the country considering how much more scrutiny the President is under just by virtue of the job itself? If the media scrutiny is why she quit, then she's just proven that even beyond her limited education and supreme ignorance on a variety of issues, she's disqualified immediately from the White House. Anyone that weak and fragile should just walk away from politics altogether and go back to private life.

She quit to avoid being seen as a lame duck - she said so herself. Basically she said she didn't want to collect a paycheck for doing nothing which i believe Americans hate more than quitters? You can try to spin it all you want but she'll just be able to turn it around and make herself look like she has integrity. She didn't abandon the state - she left it in very good hands and if he gets re-elected that arguement too will be easily defeated. America accepts people quitting to seek a higher position or betterment all the time. From sports to entertainment to politics. I'm surprised you don't want her to run for president - as a foreign national and even though it's against your constitution I think even I'd have a good chance to beat her in a presidential election - she's a "wack job" |

Do you think that Mcain or Obama was doing their state a service by running for president while being a senator? No. In all rights, they should have quit the senate gig in order to pursue a higher office. It's a BS argument that people should be allowed to keep their seats when running for higher office. You can't do both effectivly so they are cheating their constiuents. |
