"But her approval ratings in the state have skidded in recent months.

Palin has been dogged in recent months by ethics inquiries. Her office last month announced the 15th dismissal of an ethics complaint against her or one of her staff."

looks more like a PR move. Stay in alaska and continue being governor and give the other candidates ammunition. Or resign before approval ratings fall and more inquiries come up so she can have 3 years(lol) to run for president. If she did this next year or the year after then i would be convinced she resigned to campaign, but atm this is just to save face. TBH one day i would like to see a woman president but NOT her. I get a bad vibe from her, she doesnt seem intelligent/charismatic enough to be president, i would perfer clinton over her, but then i would perfer anyone else over clinton. My first vote will go for ron paul the next presidential election, not an airhead woman who looks to be so easily manipulated.

I wonder how it will be spun.  Will she be viewed as resigning from her state because she doesn't think she can give the state her proper attention while preparing to run for President? Or will the media view her resignation as ditching a sinking ship?

I do feel sorry for some things Sarah Palin has to face.  Most of the ethics violations against her are filed by people living outside the state of Alaska.  Mostly staunch democrats who want to sue her for anything.  Note 15th ethics violation to be overturned.

Smart move if she is planning a run on 2012. Everything she says and does is complete fail. Not saying or doing anything gives her opponents less ammunitiion.

Palin's resignation as Alaska's governor may signal a bid for 2012 or it may be a result of the infighting between her and some within the GOP. There are those in the GOP claim that she is the reason McCain lost the election or at very least a contibuting factor in his lose. That's not to say that this is the reason for her resignation but it is also the other side of the speculation. No one really knows for sure, at the moment, if this is the first step towards a 2012 bid or not. Her reasons may be completely different than what is being speculated but the next few weeks may clear up what her motives are. And let's look at the facts as they are presented. Sarah isn't excatly the darling of the GOP that she was during the election and GOP seem to want to back Romney rather than her.

No it isn't. She's resigning 2+ years before the first primaries ever happen. That doesn't make a damned bit of sense by any standard.

Some kind of serious scandal is about to hit her, and hard. Why the hell else would she resign on the Friday before 4th of July weekend when no one is paying attention, then give vague answers to any questions about why?

Not to mention resigning a little over halfway into her first term doesn't help her one bit politically against Republican foes in the primaries who're going to question it. ESPECIALLY amid types like Pawlenty who've opted out of running into 2010, but in comparison have publicly vowed to finish their term.

So what can it be? She positioned the story to die pinched between Jackson's death and July 4th weekend; so it can't be a cry for publicity. It isn't at all ending on a good note since she's resigning amid plummeting approval ratings and controversial resignations within her administration.

Timeout until the primaries and voluntarily taking a preemptive political hit as a half-term governor of one of the smallest populated states in our country makes no sense whatsoever.

Exactly.

Right now, the media is somewhere between falling all over themselves for any bit of Michael Jackson news they can get out of his corpse and phoning it in because they'd rather be drinking beer and having barbecue with their families on the 4th. Resigning now to prep for a presidential race in 2012 doesn't make a damned bit of sense. She's trying to bury the story between MJ and all the Independence Day stuff, and that can only mean that something is coming down the pipeline and she wants to be on her way out of office before it hits.

I hope she does as well...just not for the same reason that you do. Sadly though I think both of our hopes are going to be dashed. Running for the nomination is not the same as winning the nomination. Just ask Hillary Clinton about that distinction

Good move on her part.

If she had any hope of running for President as an ethical politican, I have absolutely no idea how she thought she was going to stand on that when all she did SINCE the election is travel around the United States pushing her PERSONAL image.

Now she can accept monies from anyone and not have it as a conflict of interest as a sitting governor, which she was doing before. She's free of those pesky financial ethics, like paying back Alaska money for hauling her brood around the nation.

All while under the Alaskan taxpayer's dime with state sponsored security. That wasn't really a benefit to Alaskans, only she got the benefit and it wasn't doing state business.

Hard to claim "reformer" when you are doing those type of unethical things.

I;m just not sure how being a quitter is going to play in America.

If she maintains her current profile she's doomed. She has to rebrand herself and she can't do that in office.

I seriously doubt there's a scandal in this case. I think she'll write her book, attempt to build a new image, travel around spreading her message, then run in 2012.

It won't, and if she participates in the Republican primaries, she'll be surrounded with nothing but governors who've all completed terms or are still in office.

The whole inexperience deal didn't matter as a VP-nominee, but you'd figure she'd have an interest in what the whole worry was about with the "one heartbeak away from the presidency" scare. It was her inexperience; and quitting the way she is now does the absolute opposite of what she needed to accomplish.

I doubt she'll be a candidate for anything again; regardless of whether or not something else surfaces to explain this.

Okay, after having a chance to hear her reasons in her own words via her press conference.. this chick is batty. Does she have post partum syndrome or something where she just went "Wheeeeeee! I quit!" She was just rambling and rambling about her Alaska pride while quitting the state. Huh?

This is NOT a good move, lol. I stand corrected. There is just something under the surface of this that makes no sense.

She announces on a Friday on the weekend of one of the most popular holidays where no one is around, that she's quitting office with eighteen more months to go.

There is either a scandal or something that is making her do this. No one ups and quits with this amount of time left on a public governor's office term without weighing the consequences. This is a Mark Sanford "impulsive" type of thing where she just up and quits, but worse. Sanford didn't actually quit. If there is no scandal and she quit anyways, that is twice as bad. Who wants to vote for someone for President who can just up and quit without giving a reason at the drop of a hat?

This is NOT someone I want with a finger on the button while answering that 3 a.m. call that Hillary Clinton was talking about.

Republicans. God bless their special little hearts. They provide so much amusement for practically no monetary cost at all, lol.

And this little post just Proves she is 100 times the person that you are Pop.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

She just quit her job 2+ years before the first primaries and gave a rambling, incoherent press conference that's leaving even Republicans scratching their heads. I think she's doomed anyway.

She has to rebrand herself and she can't do that in office.

So she's going to rebrand herself as a quitter and as someone who can't handle the media scrutiny that is part and parcel of a national political role? If she's quitting now because she can't handle the pressure and all the ethics complaints and all the craziness surrounding her, how in the hell could she be logically expected to handle the Presidency in just a few years? You think that her rambling statements today won't be replayed ad nauseum, even by Republicans, in 2012? She's effectively killed her political career by doing this. I don't see how the hell her career survives after this.

I seriously doubt there's a scandal in this case. I think she'll write her book, attempt to build a new image, travel around spreading her message, then run in 2012.

And you think people are going to take her seriously after this stunt? Come on! She can't even serve an entire term as governor, but you think people are going to entrust her with the White House? Not a chance. Stick a fork in her. She's done.

I just ignore his personal attacks on posters from now on. Ad hominems from the same people are so tiresome anymore, lol.

One thing about Obama:

He took a lot of flak (and rightfully so) from his associations with Rev. Wright, Tony Rezco and the former Sixties radical, his birth country (the U.S.), his "socialist" leanings, his "celebrity", his "elitism", his policies, his past record as a Senator, and whatever else was dug up. That is to be expected and as a voter, I wanted that stuff unearthed.. it was and I found it trivial small potatoes.

He took body blow shots from Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and Black politicians who were beholden to them. He then took the full brunt of the Republican power base, death threats, and full blown lies about his religion. He went through all of that and came out smelling like a rose, never cracking once and never sweating while McCain and Palin wilted.

Palin has been nothing but erratic from the beginning of her spotlight tour last year, while claiming to have strength, character, "stick-it-ness" and "real American" values. And now here she is quitting a public office she was elected to because she says Alaskans would be better off with her OUT of office. Victory for the "team" by passing the basketball to the Lt. Governor? Lunacy and no one understood what insanity code she was speaking today.

She gave the craziest farewell speech I ever heard in my life. And to think some people actually wanted someone with this character in the White House one heart attack away from the Presidency. They probably were the same knuckleheads who thought Ross Perot was a good idea too.

People can say what they want about Obama, but "quitter" isn't one of them and that's why I voted for him. Quitting is reserved for the pitbull hockey mom with lipstick.

This is laughable, you libs are STILL threatened by this woman's power.

If she has done anything today, it's prove ONCE AGAIN that she is NOT a washington insider like your democrat libs are.  And I am glad to make that distinction.

I hadn't even read a single story on it, but when I heard over the phone she resigned, the FIRST thing that came out of my mouth was "the libs are going to say it's some scandal coming"  LOL  you guys are such predictable tards.
