I see that there's a minority of people who think that Asheron's Call 2 was one of the greatest MMORPGs of all time begging for Turbine to bring it back for the other 50 people who actually enjoyed it.  What did you see in the game?  It took Asheron's Call, changed the world, changed the gameplay, and only copied the lore, monsters, and town names, and turned the game into what amounts to a multiplayer JRPG.  It was absolutely nothing like the original, and yet they tried to sell it to players of the original, no wonder it failed.  So how many of you that are rabid when it comes to telling people how great this game is actually played the original Asheron's Call?

I played ac1 on darktide loved it but i had to quit then in end of 2002 AC2 came i started jan 2003 AC2 and i loved it i never understood why so many said it was crap or hated it becouse it was not same as ac1.

AC2 was a great MMO if only it was given a chance to proof it specially after legions was launched.

Why do you give a crap what others say and do? Is someone affecting your job with their nostalgia for a game? By the way, you are being a hypocrite. Because you are whining about the game too, just on the other side. Learn to  practice what you preach and if something is not affecting your livelihood, DEAL WITH IT.

It would probably be still running if instead of making a totaly different game, they would have kept the original game mechanic.   I think what most peoples expected from AC2 was a similar game with better graphics.   Instead Turbine created a game that's 100% the opposite of what AC was, except for the mobs and city names.

But still that was not main reason why it failed, it failed becouse it was way to early released, on top of that no adds almost nobody knew about ac2 back then i blaim MS for that.

So many whine ingame and on forums that AC2 lack content to fast to end game and nothing to do and with ac1 fans who demonize ac2 not been same it was doomed:(

Still i say its was a great MMO that never got the cahnce to prove it self.

Too early released, you know a mmo that release when ready and full of content ?  Come on all MMO's release half done with content that get added overtime.

Ac2 had a great story presentation, great, innovative classes, fast-paced combat, memorable quests, great environments, and captured a directed field in a sandbox environment.  It also is still a beautiful game.

I'm not sure any MMO has launched as barren and broken as Ac2 was.  However it was an extremely enjoyable MMO if you took your time.  If I would have rushed I'm sure I would have hated the game entirely.

It was great to watch Lake Artefon slowly drain to reveal the ancient catacombs.  The armor sets were beautiful, and your class had a decent bit of freedom.  Several of the quests relied not on your combat but ability to solve puzzles, or jump around like a Mario game.

Epic, repeatable quests.  Rather than being bothered with a ton of kill 10 rats you got to do certain quests with great design over again if you wanted.

Seasons in the game.

Cons to the game:

Static interface.  Especially the crafting.

Lack of quests early on.

Linvak a dull continent.

The Broken chat a couple months after launch.

Original crafting was tendious, poor.

Lack of a level cap made people feel like you were always in a grind.

Those who did the grind were too immensely hard to hit in pvp.

Laggy/rubberbanding.

From a new person's perspective who came nr the end, AC2 was actually decent as it's own game. I can understand an AC fan's perspective being a 'hater' of EQ2 but from a new person's perspective, AC2 at the time was very new, fresh, and original. AC on the otherhand is very dated now- in more senses than just graphics.

Because it is a SEQUEL and should a sequel be of a completely different genre?  I think not.  Sequels come when a game is successful, so why did they change it into a horrible Everquest style game?  It did affect me, because Turbine sold it to me, I was thinking I was getting more of what made Asheron's Call great, when in fact it was a completely different game.  Also, stop talking about jobs, you're an idiot.

The reason is that AC1 had the physics system where you could dodge arrows and spells by moving out of the way of them. AC2 brought in the behind the scenes dice roll taking any semblance of player skill out of the game. That and none of the awesome politics and wars that existed on Darktide were in AC2 either. There was no reason to fight over anything.

No you can't, the difference between the gameplay in AC and AC2 is like day and night. EQ and EQ2 are both generic grindfest cookie cutter MMORPGs.

well if I'm honest AC was the worst mmorpg I ever played and it's subscription rates show it up for what it was- awful. It's only a tiny peggling of AC fans out there begging for a real sequel of it, and rightfully that won't happen.

Even though I quote you Scottc, I do not aim this statement at you. Its more against the general AC1 crowd.

Almost everytime AC1 fanboys talk or say anything about AC2, its some kind of trolling attempt. Its was rather childish when AC2 was released, but now its downright pathetic. Specially when some features that made AC1 so great are highlighted  to be used against AC2, and it turns out that AC2 had those features to - this happens frequently, sadly.

You dont see AC2 fans belittling AC1's melee combat system, no mounts, simple crafting, one playable race, awful interface...

Here is my prediction to a new AC game; it will be even further from the original than AC2 was. Probably not even use the core RPG mechanic AC1 and AC2 used.

The irony, you call EQ and EQ2 generic grindfest cookie cutter mmos. Sorry but I call that a troll attempt. I justly retaliated by saying my true thoughts on AC. You dish it out, you should take it too.

My first MMO was actually AC1 and played it for 4 months. There were a few things that ruined the experience for me. The first was players leveling their characters as bots. My patron went from a few levels above me to about 20+ levels in under a month. The second part is I couldn't stand the death penalty. I didn't like it that you were forced to run back to your corpse or take a big hit. I was a battle mage and the worst part was having to buff for 15 minutes every hour to run quests. Of course then there were buffbots, but IMO that takes away from the game.

In AC2 I liked the fact that the names of the mobs were above them so you could plan your strategy accordingly. The death penalty was very easy. You never had to run back to your corpse. To me that's a big plus. Buffing for your group took very little time, especially the last year where the group was automatically buffed with the buffs your toon could give. I liked the hunts, Fets being the best example. The group had to hunt for a Bound Fetish Spawn before the quest started. I liked the fact that there wasn't a linear progression and quests could be repeated after a set amount of time. Playing instruments was great. I liked being about to run Moars for others. I loved to jump off the Deru Tree and see how many flips I could perform in the air.

Man do I miss this game. I've played many MMO's since and AC2 still has to be my favorite. BTW I played as Farimir on Thistledown. I was in The True Fellowship--->The Covenant and later Order of the Sacred Moon.

because this game had one of the best communities out there everyone was helpful and nice, it was different from your wow crowd

it may have not been the best game but it was a damn good game for it's time, it just didn't really have anything to do with AC1 :(
