A game that tries to please everyone will fail everyone. I think a lot of FFXI fans hope that FFXIV DOES copy a lot of stuff from FFXI because the majority seem to find it enjoyable, myself included. I hope they keep a lot the same with maybe more quests and updated graphic/controls (or more options for controls) which I think are in FFXI now. I don't understand why someone who hopes FFXIV isn't like FFXI would think that a FF MMO would be suddenly geared toward them... Instead why now just hope for a different MMO altogether. |

As I'm sure was already mentioned FFXI has undergone changes where leveling really isn't all that painful. I always thought the combat was fun and more involved then other mmos where the fight ends quickly and it doesn't really matter which buttons you mash to do it. The combat to me is like a mini game all on it's own. (,,,)=^__^=(,,,)Game Latte Vidcast |

maybe they are doin some different FF games, cause ur right cynthe some arent as bad as others, but for example, take the real port of FF4 that was made on the DS, its not like the FF4 that was put on the chronicles discs on playstation 1. FF4 on DS u will NOT be speeding through every zone, even at just the beginning. otherwise u will die. every FF ive played, which is pretty much every single one except 1 and 2. somewhere theres a minor "grind" whether it be boosting materia, learning skills(FF9 equipment) points for sphere grid or license boards, drawing spells(ff8) . then again, "grind" has become an increasingly overused and abused word ne way. things people may call "grind" in a FF game may just be because its not to their liking. like a FF mmo, not making 14 at least somewhat similiar to FF would just seem strange. for the players that didnt like FFXI, knowing that FF14 will most likely have some similiariaties to FFXI they should expect that that game also will not be for them. to each their own though i guess.
... now i have an urge to play some FF o.O |

That's another aspect I think SE got right and other MMO makers don't seem to understand. No fight should be trivial. You should have to pay attention to what you're doing on each pull. With recent MMO's, you wade through all the trash mobs until you get to that one boss where you finally have a meaningful fight. 99% of your gameplay in other games is a no brainer. Heck, in FFXI, even getting to the fight wasn't trivial.
MMO games would be pretty cool if it weren't for the people. |

I agree. You went about this the completely wrong way. What annoyed me is that you were speaking in factual terms, "**** XI", "**** combat system" etc - it's YOUR OPINON and just because you don't like the game it doesn't mean it's ****. Next time you post something like this try to be more constructive with an approach more along the lines of 'I didn't like FFXI for these reasons, what I would like them to change in FFXIV is...". Anyway, I enjoyed the combat system in FFXI and I hope they keep the strategic element of it in FFXIV. Mindless button mashing is boring. I like a challenge. That being said I think they could up the pace of the combat a little and I would like to see more many vs many situations. I haven't played FFXI for years but when I did play leveling usually involved pulling a single mob back to the group and killing it... if you tagged more than 1 then in alot of cases you were in trouble. I have to admit I didn't get that far with XI, I quit at about lvl 50 as I didn't have the time to play so i'm not sure when the end game combat was like. I really hope they have a better variety of mobs aswel, I got sick to death of seeing rabbits and crabs. I thought that was rather lazy of SE, they could have at least made them bigger as they get harder or something. I'm hoping to see alot of elements from FFXI in the game but I think some stuff can be improved... and hoping for some completely new and unique stuff too! |

Wait.. What?
FFXI isn't playable witha keyboard?
That's funny shit... I don't think I played FFXI with anything BUT my keyboard. Actually FFXI was pretty much how I learned to play MMO's with a keyboard.. I always just used to mouse for everything. I seriously hope they don't copy everything from FFXI either tho.. I hope they have roughly the same types of jobs (which I'm sure following FF tradition they will) I like that they are keeping some of the races (was never crazy about Galkas) but I hope they add more than they copy. I hope they truely improve all on some aspects of the game they keep while adding new. New races would be nice as would new jobs and a more complex combat system with new elements we haven't seen yet in a MMO. Hopefully we'll see more variety in outfits and mobs and zones. Hopefully FFXIV will be like FFXI in ways but ultimately FFXIV will be more like... FFXIV |
