Ever since Tabula Rasa went under I've had little to no luck with finding a good MMORPG to kill time with.  There's 5 upcoming games that I'm keeping an eye on that'll hopefully catch my interest, but in the meantime I'm hoping to find something to play.  I'm refusing to play WoW because it seems way too childish in my opinion and I'm not much for the fantasy games.  The only thing that's been keeping me occupied so far is roleplaying as a cyborg on Second Life...

The upcoming games that I'm keeping an eye on is Fallen Earth, Jumpgate Evolution, Global Agenda, Earthrise, and Huxley.  I gave Anarchy Online a shot and found it dull and boring, City of Heroes/Villians was way too repetative, Exteel was PvP only and I'm a fan of PvE too.  Eve Online was just.... Click on a planet, go make lunch, and 30 minutes later you arrive at that planet.  and everything else out to this day just seems way to fantasy oriented.  Any advice?  I know i'm pretty picky, but it was a low blow when Tabula Rasa was taken away from me. :(

I'm not convinced you tried eve. Its never takes more than 20 seconds to warp across the largest systems, so I'm wondering how it would take you 30 minutes to reach a planet.

Regardless, Eve is where its at as far as sci-fi MMOs go atm. There are, as you say, a number of sci-fi MMOs that are going to launch in the nearish future (1-2 years). You might broaden your scope and try some other genre in the meantime.

Hm.... Maybe I was a bit hard on Eve right from the get go...  I just didn't like how it was so automated... I was a huge fan of Descent Freespace back in the day and I was hoping that Eve would be more like that... hence why I'm looking forward to Jumpgate Evolution... But maybe you're right, I'll give Eve a second shot.  Thanks for the wake up call.

I've been watching Fallen Earth like a hawk.  I think I applied to Beta it... I've never Beta tested anything before.. But I'll look into that while Eve continues to download.  Thanks.

Fallen Earth entered Open Beta some days ago, you can give it a try.

Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

I'm personally waiting for Earthrise. It promises to be another worthy project besides EVE.

You can always wait for Global Agenda to go into Beta

It looks pretty good from the screens they put up :)

Fallen Earth is in open beta, you can go to fileplanet.com and sign up for a free account to get access...

If you do this, you'll sign an NDA, and then you'll see that the game isn't very polished, the UI is a bit clumsy.  But you'll also see that the game has so much potential it's ridiculous.  The combat is what Tabula Rasa should have been.   The years of developement have been spent on the core of the game, in order to provide a "sandbox" type game.  For the average game, they have to program in a set number of quests... but to open the world up requires the ability for the player to have many, many more options, and this kind of thing takes time.

I really hope they don't make a mistake and release this early.  You guys see how quickly gamers will call the game a failure.  As long as they take the time to finish what they've started, I think everyone who has been waiting for the release will be pleased.

I've read many of the reviews and I've seen many of the interview movies on Fallen Earth.  I've been patiently watching and waiting for Fallen Earth and hoping it's a success.  I'm in no rush for it nor do I want them to rush it only for it to fall short of what it should be.  I agree that the potential of Fallen Earth is huge.  My hopes of Earthrise has fallen short after seeing a few of the latest videos, but I'll still keep hope that it will still prove to be a good game.  I currently have the 14 day trial of Eve downloading now as well as the stress test of Fallen Earth.  I'll definetly try to Beta Fallen Earth, everything I've seen looks awesome so far.

In my opinion there are going to be 3 good sci-fi MMO coming out within the next few years.

1.  SWTOR-- duh

2. Huxely-- might not be so much sci-fiyyy as you would like but I think it will work.

3. Warhammer 40k-- if they actually decide to make it, in my opinion it has the best unvierse for a sci-fi mmo.  If they make it right, to story it should be the best.  Story wise..

Global Agenda does look very promising and I do want to also try it as well, but it looks more oriented around a FPS style rather than a RPG.  I played 2142 and CoD4 all through the ranks, and I've grown slightly tired of games where you spawn in a firefight with some clue of what's going on, run around, die, wait 10-15 seconds to respawn, and repeat the process all over again.  2142 was a horrible example... I always hated spawning into a game only to find a randomly spammed grenade at my feet...only giving me two seconds time to actually be 'in' the game.  I've moved onto the MMO side of the world in hopes to keep respawn times to at least 10-15 minutes longer than the average FPS spawn lifespan.

Star Wars.... eh... I might try but... Just seems a little overplayed to me.  Huxley I've heard about since 2007 and although I won't hold my breath I'll still keep an eye on.  Warhammer 40k as an MMO?  Now that'd be nice... I had no idea that was in the works... Wow... I'll definetly see about looking up information on that.  I wouldn't mind playing as a Tau Firewarrior.. :)

Agreed.  I'm anxious to see how the F2P model works out for them.  Seems to be a good game for it.

You obviously lack the IQ to figure out how to use Warp in Eve.  Eve Online is probably the deepest and most intellectually stimulating MMOs out there right now.

Hey, I was never insulting when I reply back to anyone's posts so I'm not going to stoop down to your level.  I know how to use the warp capability.  EVE Online can be deep and intellectually stimulating in your opinion, but that doesn't mean it's going to be appealing and fun for everyone.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

It sounds to me like you've tried everything and didn't like them. You need to expand your horizons and try some different games, say Hellgate London, Age of Conan, that sort of thing. I too am looking for a good sci-fi MMO, since I was in Fallen Earth closed beta (o noes NDA) and it was aweful. Global Agenda is on my radar right now.

I agree with you on this, you don't find many 12-year-olds playing Eve.
