No, because if developers think "Oh all will just use Vent or TS, lets not make guild chat". That's idiotic! In game communication without huge barriers is just must. I don't want to spent in Vent talking with fat soda slurping Carebear-haters.

Hmm.. im kinda concerned about this but I hope it will add more immersion and turn out fine. 

I doupt any guilds will have problems with this but Im planning on being a solo player, atleast in the beginning... Guess well have to see how it plays out :)

Honestly I dont think devs would like people to use Vent/TS if they could control things.    They have only acknowledged that people will use them.    I think the devs are trying to create a world and a atmosphere where it will hopefully envelop you with its rewards AND its pain.     I dont see anything wrong with that vision at this moment, however I am going to reserve judgement for when I get to play.

Mostly, but that still doesn't solve the problem. 

For example take someone who plays on a family computer in the kitchen, and cant be talking up a storm on vent.  He/she can listen but doesn't necessairly wanna talk while the whole family is within ear shot distance.

  I use vent and or TS when I have to during Raids or If the guild requires me to, but I HATE being in vent all the time. There's times where I can't and don't feel like hearing those cheetos crunching, slurpy sipping, incredibly loud and obnoxious guildmates. EVERY guild has at least a few of them people!  There's times I like to relax, focus, and or listen to music while I play. 

Personally, I'm not trying to hate on MO, but not having a whisper function is going a little overboard with it's attempt at creating a super realistic MMO..  That and not having a 3rd person view is my biggest problems with the game.. I'm not playing a FPS game. I'm sick of devs trying to incorporate as many FPS elements into newer MMO's.. That's what's really destroying the Genre.. But, guess that's a different topic for a different day..

But there is a whisper function, so I dont really know what you are on about, the message will just have a delay, I welcome this, less spaming by people, less trash talk and more action, it will also make the trading/meeting hubs(read cities) more important since they are the way to exchange information.

One of the big flaws with pvp games is "RED HERE at X,Y,Z come and get him people!!" , "Guys come quickly im being ganked at X position" or  "/local guys rare mob here come and get it" sounds pretty idiotic to me.

 That system sounds way more fun tbh. A Pigeon :D what if it gets eaten by an eagle or intercepted lol that would be pretty cool.

But also very annoying on serious matters.

As long as there's a local chat or some way for me to verbally assaulting the noob i just pwnt, i'll be happy.

In Asheron's Call, the community has never been tighter than before they added global chat. The lack of such chat makes people gather and actually communicate instead of just standing in front of an auctioneer or a mailbox. Same for the lack of instant /whisper.

Not to mention the strategic element the lack of instant /whisper adds to a PvP game.

Global chat channels have always been a cesspool of rudeness, trolling and spam anyway. I have turned them off in most of the games I have played. If it's to read kids making chuck norris jokes, then no thanks, we don't need global chat.

I think whisper isn't really necessary at all, in alot of games whisper is unrealistic in the way that you can "whisper" to someone over far distances.

If you stand close enough to two people whispering you'll hear what they say anyway, so there's not really a necessity with /whisper or /tell as far as I can see.

 My main concern with no whispering may be if want to start or join a pick up group. Many polite gamers will send me a tell asking for aid or I may ask to join.

And of course, who can not like the rhythmic syntax of gold spammers?

 You can send messages to players, the only difference is there might be a slight delay.
