So it dawned on me just now that there IS in fact a problem with Mortal Online not having a "/whisper" function. Because when you kill someone you think is me, I want to be able to /whisper you "It was just a motherfuckin decoy" before I kill you. |

It will just hurt casuals.
Any decent guild will all be on vent anyway. |

not exactly a hard thing to add later, they will see how players react to it first. |

You can whisper but from what I have read you need to be close and if someone have high hearing(skill) they can hear what you whisper, dunno if this will actually be implemented. And there is also the pigeons you can send but they will not be instant. |

While that seems like a good idea, I think there will be a problem with whispers not being secure. It is a cool concept but some times utility outways creativity or realism. They almost need to have a secure chat device, because if i am having a personal conversation with someone that details real life information about myself i dont want someone to be able to hear that. And yes i know if you are typing your credit card number or social security number to someone over tells you probably deserve what's coming to you but in the case that you do send someone a tell with your login information, you will need some sort of secure way to communicate. |

Maybe it will help the RPG part of MMORPG type of game. I have started in Age of Conan to talk to NPC's in local, roleplaying a real adventurer. Not having whisper may make the world feel more live, and make this thing better?. lets wait and see. |

There will be no global chat of any kind except guild chat I hear. The devs are hopeing no global chat will encourage interaction between players. Its also much more realistic I think they mentioned being able to use magic to communicate as well. |

As for this, I'd just boost hearing to the max, and walk between people to see if theres any naughty-naughties going on heh :D |

No global chat I can fully agree with, no /whisper, not so much. But since I've never played a game w/o it, will have to see how well it plays out.

There are a type of whisper communication like said before you can send messenger pigeons and any person who is in a guild usually doesnt need whisper because they are in a voice chat program usually. They are trying to make one of the most realistic games. ![]() Damnant quod non intellegunt

I actually think this system will be very interesting. I am very much looking forward to try it. Especially after hearing the MO-radio interview of the CEO of Star Vault. |

This is the EXACT reason NOT to have whisper. Good for them. I dont want to see all the whispering "I pwnzord you" or " How did you kill me? You cheated..whaaaaa."
Maybe only have a /whisper function for friends/guild members only. :) |

Honestly, I don't know how it will work out. It may encourage more role playing, which I think will be a good thing. It will also raise the importance of being in a good guild that provides vent access and a good base of players to interact with. That's basically the reason my friends and I decided to start up a guild. I think a lot of the games features actually push you to interact, in a guild or otherwise. For one thing, it's not going to be safe to go outside alone :) |

I'm surprised to hear there will be no whisper function in MO.. Almost as shocked as I was to hear there will be no 3rd person mode.. Actually, come to think of it, not having those two features implemented is just like not having the run feature implemented. You need them in any mmorpg. One thing I'd like to know is, will there at least be a guild and group chat function? If not, then I won't even bother wasting my time with this one,,,, I don't care how promising and awesome the game sounds.. It's a shame because the concepts, graphics, races, classes, etc all sound impressive. But not implementing simple common and much needed features will force me to keep a long distance away from this one... :( *sigh* Rallithon Oakthornn |

Realism, roleplay, player interaction, - to me all of this sounds good, if people really cannot cope without whisper then they can add it. Mortal is doing alot of things that are outside the box, thus its an unconventional mmo - breaking that mold? Im up for trying it. |

either it will be really nice...or it will be game breaking. i haven't decided which it will be, for me. IF i decided to give this game a go after it comes out, i would be playing duo group with my wife. she would be sitting right next to me and i can talk to her directly, but if i get a group and cant speak with them...it is gonna be really hard to communicate.
