Anyone who says this is a ripoff is a fool. Clearly it does use the post-apocalyptic theme but the bases of the two stories are extremely different. Fallout is based on a fantasy world where "Science!" prevails and allows for many odd happenings. It's also known that in the Fallout universe, the timeline split around 1950 from the real one and evolved in a different way, hence why technology in the future was retro-futuristic, very reminiscent of the 50s and how people in the 50s thought the future would be like. In Fallen Earth, the timeline progress much the same and the reasons for the "fall out" are quite different. In essence, both universes are very unique and as such cannot really be called rip-offs of one another. Post-apocalyptic worlds would have to be trademarked and copyrighted on their own for anyone to be called a rip-off of anything doing the same basic thing. So in short, Fallen Earth isn't a Fallout rip-off so get over it. I'm a fan of both and prefer the more modern approach to Fallen Earth's world. For the Templars... |

Agreed. Fallout's future is also based on a nuclear armageddon as opposed to a viral one in FE. This means that there really is a pretty big difference in art and style. FE tends to a more deserted landscape as opposed to a destroyed landscape (aka fallout). Secondly, one of the things that made Fallout such a hit was it's wonderful sense of humor. Kudos to Interplay for really doing that well and taking what would have been just a decent RPG and making it a true gaming franchise. Everything from the silly 50s retro art to all of the weird dialogue and interactions. Fallout has always been a memorable game w/ a ton of easter eggs. So, while there are some similarities since they share the same genre of game, they really do have very distinct art styles and unless FE goes for campy situations and dialogue I don't see it as plagarism or stealing. |

I really enjoyed Fallout, but I think I may believe that Fallen Earth is better. |

They have said repeatedly however in posts and articles that they are not "The Fallout" RPG as everyone so infamously knows. Ten people who speak make more noise than ten thousand who are silent. |

Oh my! Wow! The game has basic RPG stats like Strength and Charisma! The game is based in an apoctolyptic setting! The game have Fall in the name! How could I not have seen it! It MUST be a Fallout clone!!! But wait.... It's an MMORPG... It lacks the same black humor.... It seems to be a game with a very serious tone... It uses improvised weaponary, unlike Fallout which usually features various firearms... It seems to lack alien life forms, unlike Fallout which features alien life forms and laser weaponary... It's combat system seems to be NOTHING like Fallout, which features a turn-based system, unlike FE's tradition MMORPG system... It doesn't seem to have the perk system like Fallout, or a pip-boy of some kind... Guess it's a Fallout rip-off. No other option. Yeah, there's definitely some inspiration there, but it is in no way a Fallout clone/rip-off. I guess you could say, it's as WoW is to WAR. ____________________________ "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but I know World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

When they add crafting to Fallout, you would only have the first reason to start a thread like this. Every game has "factions" so yeah, they ripped off Fallout. Not.
Then they aren't "exactly the same", no?
You're not crazy and paranoid. You're just-

I tried that torrent, worked great, lotta seeders, it DL'd fast. Ran the file to check the vid quality, it's not bad at all. Gonna watch it this weekend, it's been many years since I last saw it. Never woulda had the idea if you hadn't made your list, Thanks! Originally posted by PonyboyJR Doesn't really matter to me. It's an MMO and Fallout wasn't. Looks like a cool concept. The crafting system really interests me. Seems as though it will make crafting worthwhile and fun. Hopefully it will have enough of a fanbase to survive. I also liked the concept of Hellgate: London which offered a regular offline retail game to play as well as an online MMO with both free and pay options. I don't feel quite as cheated that it went belly up because I still have the offline game to play. May try it because I've been looking for a game with a cool crafting system. |
