I'm looking for an MMO to play with my girlfriend. Something with decent roleplay, but either free or cheap. Something we can both roleplay on would be nice as well. I'm considering runescape since its the first thing that comes to mind (I can RP on the forums, she's played it before and I find it moderately enjoyable).

Oh, and I want relatively simple just in case she's lying when she says she's really good at MMOs. ;)

Anybody got ideas? :D

If you like F2P games, try Jade Dynasty. At level 10 a male and female characters can get married and start a Romance Quest series. The quest series can only be done if the male and female characters are in a group. The male character has to be group leader and the female character has to be the group. Might be fun practice for you guys, lol. :) Just joking.

When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!

hmm,  well ive somewhat limited experience, nothing endgame on my end, but ive played several.  out of the ones ive played id recomend giving EQ2 a go. or perhaps lotro, but id go toward EQ2 out of those 2.   theres always WoW i guess, depends on ur preference. its simple, fun, etc.

EQ2 is probably one of the most polished and stable mmo's ive played, loads of content. lots of race/classes. if u want to get some good immersion and in character rp going, id recomend the antonia bayle server, very good population and nice community in game as well. im sure ud have fun checking it out, and  to help u out. all of the above have or should have free trials available. sample and see what strikes ur fancy

Waiting For: FF14,Guild Wars2

The problem with EQ2 is the expansions :[ My mum's BF account has em all, but she'd need  have the expansions too :[

And AoC is still alive? I might be interested in picking it up for us.

For EQ2 if you buy the "Shadow Odyssey" you get all the expansions, the original game and all adventure packs. Plus if you buy it retail you get a bear pet that turns into a mount at level 20.

Another route you can go is have your mothers BF recruit the both of you. Then you get the game for free except the "Shadow Odyssey" expansion. Which is really not needed when you start. Most of the content is for the highest levels anyways.

Eq2 is good for duo's to play. Lots of content, and in my opinion a great helpful community.

Just for your information.

Speaking as a girl, avoid AoC. It is too stark and dour. EQ2 may be too complicated for your needs. I would recommend LoTRO, very good roleplaying community, or everybody's whipping boy---WoW. Girls love the bright look and easy gameplay.I know many, many couples who play WoW.

sounds like ull be wanting to hit up some free trials, no harm in those, it could be the best way to go if ur undecided between multiple games.

LOTRO is 9.99 a month, DDO is free. Both are good games to play with your girl.

Honestly World Of Warcraft or Perfect World International would be best for her. World Of Warcraft is by far not one of my favorites but I did play it to the end and it is quite enjoyable and fun to play with girls. Its simple, fun, enjoyable. Perfect World Is a free game though, and has all the quallitys of World Of Warcraft.

So most likely Perfect World, now if you said Turn based MMO, I would have to recommend my fav game, Atlantica Online.

War is not the ultima ratio, but the ultima irratio - Willy Brandt

Maybe Guild Wars ?

Its an easy game (IMHO). Dunno if you can really roleplay in it. It only has to be payed for once, though.

If you go for WoW, you can go for pretty much any other MMO out there as well. They are all about as expensive than the other, really.

P.s.: Ugh, maybe I just shouldnt have bothered answering in this thread. I never was interested in "free" MMOs. But sadly there is no Delete button.

Ugh.

Maybe its a good thing I've so much bad luck with girls then.

You could test the waters with Runes of Magic. Its a solid game and won't take any investment just to play it with her.

I play MMO's with my wife ALL the time and we've tried a bunch of them. Warhammer, AoC, LOTRO, WoW, EQ2, Vanguard, and more that I can't remember right now. The best so far has been EQ2. If you want to play WoW right now, it's expensive unless you just play the base game. There are 3 expansions that you buy separately, so $$$. Otherwise this game is not a bad choice. AoC is bleak and generally did not appeal to her at all (though I liked it). EQ2 is cheap to get into right now. I personally found the latest expansion showing up in a few places for $20 each, and that has EVERYTHING you need (all expansions). It has a lot of different things to do. She likes variety in how your character can look, she likes the collectable 'glowies' you pick up, she likes player housing (furnishing and pets mainly) and she likes leveling fairly quickly (which EQ2 has been working on BIG TIME). She even likes collecting resources (cause she can get the rare resources to sell). We currently have our sights on buying a much bigger place in Freeport and filling it with new furniture and pets.

Of the ones I've listed, this is the order with which she liked playing them: EQ2, LOTRO and WoW (too close to call), Warhammer, Vanguard, AoC. Hope this helps.

This, and no offense but you mentioned she said she's good at MMOs why aren't you asking her?

And don't worry Adamantine not all girls (speaking as one) are into bright and easy, I'm very much looking forward to Mortal Online and multiplayer Mount and Blade.

I must admit the best MMO I have ever played with the girlfriend is WoW.

Aside from it being a great game with lots of options at a low level, The best part of this is 'Refer a friend'

With refer a friend not only is levelling for the first 90 days together easier and more fun with the well publicised triple XP for all quest hand ins and kills but also you can summon each other to anywhere in the game world which is great.

I would recommend to anyone who wants to try an MMO with the girlfriend as I have two characters i play with her and two i play solo or with other friends and my brother.

Great game.

I've played many MMO's with my girlfriend including: Earth & Beyond, PlanetSide, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer Online, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxies, Horizons, Age of Conan, Sims Online, Second Life, Final Fantasy XI, World of War II Online, Eve Online, and Shadowbane among a few others. We are looking forward to playing Aion and Star Wars: The Old Republic. So I've had my fair share of good experiences and bad.

The best experiences I had playing with her are from World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars Galaxies. We do not roleplay.

She liked the the open worlds, the fact that you could get married, and player housing of Star Wars, the friendly community and solid gameplay of Lord of the Rings, and she just enjoyed the atmosphere and gameplay of World of Warcraft. Her favorite seemed to have been World of Warcraft. With Lord of the Rings in second. Although at this point in each game I would recommend Lord of the Rings. World of Warcraft lost it's charm, and it seems that no matter what server you play on the community has completely turned its back on itself. If you don't get into one of the many clicks on each server than you are out of luck and if you don't raid or PvP than you most likely won't get into a click.
