After the incredible success of both movies and the renewed interest of our general population I think it is time for an innovative MMO based on Transformers. The possibilities to me are endless. I researched a little about the topic and apparently there are talks of a China based company working on one but who knows. My real purpose for opening this thread is to ask my fellow MMOers out there, what elements do you think are needed to make this MMO successful? What company should flagship this task and what would you need as a gamer to play?

All ideas are welcome, I just think a game based on this IP could have great potential and would definitely gain my interest.

What will make a Transformers MMO successful?  A miracle of near-galactic proportions.

I think it has potential for an FPS but I don't think there's enough RPG Elements to make it work. I can't think of a way to do character progression, crafting wouldn't be available... it would basically be just a PvP game...

Can't see this working, who'd want to be dorky Autobots when you could be the much cooler Decepticons based on jet models.?

 Transformers MMO would be a good gamble for a company. I think the real challanges will be in the animation department. I would make animation top of the line for this game. I would even consider teaming up with technology such as OnLive so players do not have to buy a brand new rig to play my game. 

You got a lot of content to work from in transformers. the older and newer cartoons and the movie.

I think Transformers is a perfect example that every good IP doesn't need an MMO.

Naming it World of Warcraft 2.

It could be RvR based and set on the original planet, or maybe an original story set on a different planet where another " cube " was located, sent, etc.  I don't know how else it would be done.  Otherwise, maybe it could be twisted towards a terminator type setting, but I don't think that would fly very well.

I think Transformers would make a great MMO. In a MMO you need at least two factions. Here we have the Autobot and Decepticons , so we have our two factions. With two factions you need a war. Might be me , but I don't think Megatron and Optimus Prime don't  like each other. So there we got ourselves a war. Which that would cover pve and pvp combat as well.

All we need now is a good story. My story idea for a Transformers MMO, would be the beginning of the war between the Autobts and Decepticons on their home planet of Cybertron. That way the developers would be able to write their own story. Very much like BioWare is doing with Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Also being set on Cybertron, character creation and customization. Wouldn't confined to earthly disguises of cars, planes, or other machines. You'd create your very own alien robot.

Well lthat's what I think would make a successful Transformers MMO. What do you guys think?

The movie is fun to watch because of the special effects, but I don't think I'd touch this Transformers as a MMORPG.  As a console game I suppose there could be some good online play, but this is a site for MMORPG and I don't see much role-playing going on in this genre.  I say that because I don't feel there is enough depth to this game.

PVE raids, few classes, long climbs to max level, and expansions that just make the max level even higher.

Now, what will make a Transformers MMO fun? That's another story.

Someone mentioned that there couldnt be crafting.....custom armor/chassis'? Better weapons? Utilities/computer upgrades? Those could easily be player craftable, its not as if we'd all be forced to run around as Prime/Megatron clones with no customization. And if they didn't add flight-capable Autobots, theyd be colossal idiots (not that that's unusual for mmo companies...) Having said that, I still don't know if there would be enough substance to make a full fledged mmo out of it, especially a rpg. But I'm not ashamed to admit I'd buy it anyway just to play a transformer :P

I think when people think about MMOs they only think about wow or Aion or similar things, Woudl it make a good MMORPG..No, But i think it would make a good Action MMO, kinda like diablo and its ilk.

Something you could log in blast some bad guys with friends or even pvp against others.

About the Chinese company, the Closed Beta without deleting data are the same day as the movie, or rather, June 23rd (according to the article I was reading yesterday).  I was searching for any pictures that may show what the game would be like, but from what I can see and the description of one article that I read, I seriously doubt they can do the serie justice.  Oh, and from the article that I read, it's more or less a crappy MMORTS type where "you're the commander, and you collect the transformers..."

Anyway, about ideas for a true Transformers MMORPG, I personally believe that the game has to have a great transforming systems (and where players can pick what they want to be the vehicle form and robot form with relevant weapons), a great story that immerse the players into the world of Transformers.  As for the company, I would like Cryptic or Bioware to run the game.  Just my personal opinion that either of the company might be able to do the serie justice.
