Heyo, I think i have a hard thing for you guys to help me with :P

For the past while i've been searching for a decent laptop that i can get shipped or i can pick up in Canada; of course someone is gunna be like "LAPTOPS ARENT FOR GAMING!" , etc. I dont care. Im also looking for one thats around the 1000$ price range (in canadian dollars of course); so anywhere around like 800-1200$ is good.  Also, id like to have a laptop with decent battery life as im going to have to bring it to classes and stuff, i havent really looked up spare batteries or external batteries much but i know thats an option.

I have been researching myself and found newegg.ca to have an awesome deal on a laptop with a Radeon 4670 installed but as soon as i was about to purchase it they took it off their site, now that im a bit angry and upset I figured id ask some help. If anyone knows why they took it off the site or anywhere else i can get that laptop for around the same price, thatd be great! Im pretty sure it was an MSI and other people have seen it up there.

If you dont mind a comp that'll scare people away you could get the g50 it has a very nice bang for buck ration, or get a M50 (both from asus).

They have a few new models coming out soon so you might find these at a very nice price but below 1000us you'll have a hard time finding laptops suitable for gaming.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

This Asus http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220520 seems like the best deal at that price range, or possibly the MSI http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152086

There's a few other Asus that are a couple steps up that are good too, and the Gateway P-7805u but those are up around $1500 CAD

Alienware only succeeds at providing top end laptops, nothing in their lineup is actually cost effective, of course if you have the money and are looking for the top end ones it's pretty much them or Sager/Clevo.

My suggestions as far as brands are Sager, MSI, and ASUS.

As far as selection a laptop, I would try to spend under $1000.  Laptops have a relatively short life span, and the parts in a laptop perform worse then their desktop equivalents.  Keeping it under $1k makes sure you don't overspend.  Aside from the most demanding of games, a $1k laptop will also play most games on high or highest.

Here are my recomendations.

Don't buy a laptop.  Try to avoid it at all costs!  They aren't really necessary for class or school anymore.  I bought a laptop when I first went to college (a gateway).  I used it a few times, but over time I found hand writing notes be much more effective.  With the laptop you have to bust it out, turn it on, load up Word, and then type as the notes come.  Of course, people are staring at you like you are weird for bringing a laptop to class too, but that stigma seemed to fade quickly.  I got tired of lugging it around and making sure it was charged.

Also, since you are moving it around a lot, they have a tendecy to break or cause problems.  The most common problem ive seen is the inability to hold a charge.  This happened to my laptop and it happened to many others as well.

Yes, laptops do have their positives as well.  If you get an Alienware it makes it much easier to travel with and take to LAN parties or move around the house, but that shouldn't be a selling point.

I stopped using my laptop and built a new desktop.  That lasted for a while, but then I bought another laptop for strictly school use.  I got the basic Macbook.  Well, my goal was to have a desktop for gaming and a laptop for travel/school/random.  I believe this is the best way to go.  I could take my Macbook to class... started up quickly... and had everything I needed.  They hold a charge well and the battery life was more than necessary.

My PC ended up dying and I got stuck with a Macbook for about a year.  I did play WoW on it.  I did more than a number of Naxx and Heroic raids on it with no problems.  The only hang up I really had was in Dalaran.

I eventually went back to getting a PC and still use my Macbook.  I will watch TV, listen to music, and do general nonsense on my Macbook while I play on my PC.  Its actually nice.

So, in conclusion... buy a cheap, cheap, cheap laptop like the Asus EEE or any other new netbook (200-300 bucks).  They can run WoW  and are light, small, and easy to get around.  They will be perfect for a school fit.  But, then take about 500-600 and build a budget gaming system.

Desktop for gaming.

Laptop for school.
