Hello,

I am a WoW player at the moment, but i feel a bit tired of the game, and there are some aspect which i dont like them. However, i am interested if AION can be my possible next MMO.

So, i will like from peoples who are in beta to give some more informations, comparing eventually with WoW.

This is not a flame post, please keep it on subject. Thanks.

Well, considering that we have played up to level 1-20 in the bright side (call it alliance if you want) and up to 1-10 in the dark side (call it horde if you want), there isn't much to tell especially regarding end game, beyond speculations.

It would be easier if you named what aspects of the game you'd like to compare.

Without meaning to sound rude, there are actually a huge number of threads made by people giving their opinions of the game. How about reading some of them?

Is true but some of them maybe never played WoW, so a good comparation cant be made.

Some of them maybe.......but come on the majority of the people on this website have played WoW. Just go to mmorpg.coms main page and read the review by Paragus (its in the top right part of the page). Its got everthing you need to know for the first 10 levels........and he's played WoW.

Or just click on someone elses thread because every single one I've read has compared it to WoW.

You're just being lazy. Maybe you played WoW a bit TOO much

simple answer these kinda question is always " buy it and try it " start saving money now if you think 40 euros , pounds dollars is too much for your pocket to see if the game gives you more than world of warcraft.

people have different taste and different opinions anyway so you woudl get the answer what you seek by asking.

My general answer would be "World PvP" and "Castle sieging and holding that matters". But these are not things that are experienced during the beta, thus I didn't mention them. Aerial combat is just an extra strategic element in the battles.

I can't catch on, why every new game must be compared with WoW. Yes, because 90% of MMO players don't know any other MMO game on the market. I apprehend, that can be compared WoW with some similar title. But how can someone compare two differrent games with completly different game system? I will go play something, because its different and fun to play, not for why its better or not from something ....

Its easier for someone to understand something when they can relate to the subject matter.  Even if two games are very different, by comparing them to WoW, players who aren't going to spend the time to carefully research each game can at least get a grasp of what they are looking at by comparing it to their past experiences (commonly WoW).

Precisely.

(Although, it is slightly vexing that some people don't at least conduct a little of their own research in order to draw their own conclusions before creating a new thread to solicit the opinions of the community. If nothing else, it would serve to narrow the focus of the post, at least, to several slightly more specific questions rather than just asking for a vague overview of the two games -- in order to provide the OP with an accurate response, respondents need specific points of reference to address.

I've played WoW (who hasn't?), yet when I read all of the Aion previews inundating these and other forums, I can make reasonable conjectures about how the two games will relate simply by drawing upon my own experiences (in WoW, that is). I don't see playing myriad MMOs as being a prerequisite to possessing the ability to make (somewhat) accurate comparisons when reading reviews/previews. But maybe I'm just unique in that respect.)

I'd say Aion does nothing better than Wow since they are two different games. I don't know why people keep comparing them , but when i played Aion, the only thing that felt similar was the UI,the controls and maybe the quests system, but i'd say Aion's quests system is a bit better with the locate option that put a "X" on the map to show you where a NPC or a mob that you need is. The UI is similar to most new MMOs like WAR,LOTRO,AOC,etc. The graphics are looking better if you like anime or Guild Wars style.

To learn new spells, you go to a trainer, like in Wow but you have to buy books to learn your spells. The fun part is that you can buy the books for the next levels. So when you hit the next level,if you bought the books, you only have to click them on your inventory and you don't have to go back to your trainer.

The class selection is different too. You chose an archetype (Scout,Warrior,Priest,Mage) at the beginning, you learn a bit how to play with your character for ten levels, then you chose a class after completing the campaign chain quest. If you like lore, the campaign quests is the interesting stuff, you learn about your character story and those quests are a bit harder than the standard quests, plus they give more exp. For example, if you play a Priest, after your ascension, you can chose between a Cleric (the best healing class) or a Chanter(healing, support, buff class).

So like i mentionned before, i think Aion is different than Wow,it does nothing new but it takes the best from other MMOs and updated and polished stuff like UI,quests system, campaign, etc.

I played Wow for four years and i can say right when i started Aion,i felt at home because of the controls and UI. But after playing for a couple of hours, you realize there are many things done differently so there's something refreshing when you play it and even if the quests are pretty basics at first sight, i became addicted pretty fast, the last MMO that did that with me was Wow.

Here is my opinion based on the first 10 levels.

1. Graphics in Aion are far superior to Wow.  They look great, the world is very 3d not 2d.

2. I liked the music better then wow but I guess that could be taste.  I felt it had a sureal quality that went well with the world.

3. Character model customization is much better then wow.  Aion characters have dozens of settings you can tweak.

4. Equipment variety is a tough one.  Like wow there are sets of equipment every few levels, however unlink wow the stats for each type of equipment are fixed.  There isn't any randomness in the stats.  However equipment does have a socket that allows you to customize the stats somewhat.   I'd probably say this goes to wow however.

5. combat system.  The Aion combat system features chains and reactions but I didn't see any kinda build ups.  Again having only played to lvl 10 it is hard to say but at this point I'd say that wow's combat system is better.

6. Mob AI seemed similar so far but I don't think I've fought any mobs in Aion that used ranged attacks so it is hard to say.

7.  Aion has very good transportation, you got teleporters and the ability to fly.  This makes travel in Aion very fast and fun.  Aion wins here.

8. Character customization seems to be a win for wow.  Aion has something called stigma stones but with only 4-5 max I'm not sure this really competes with wow skill trees.  Although maybe that opinion will change.  One might think of stigma stones as like the peak of any skill tree and depending on what the abilities are even 5 would perhaps make your character very different from any other character.

9. At lvl 10 I'm not sure if Aion has any dungeons now or soon so it is hard to compare.  My gut says wow is going to be better PvE then Aion.

10. Crafting and harvesting is similar to wow except that you can craft and harvest everything.  You are not forced to choose a type of harvest or craft.  Crafting is still a point and click although if your skill is higher then the recipe you craft it fast.  Crafting trainers offer work orders, that might make grinding crafting skills easier and cheaper.

Can you detail about crafting? Any idea if high end crafter items compare with instances items? Or crafting is useless kinda like in WoW?

I personally wasn't too fond of what i saw so far. I'll still try the final product and all. But what I've seen, it hasn't felt much different than playing any other Eastern F2P MMO. But having said that I will without a doubt give Aion credit for one thing. That would be the music. Normally video game music bugs me and ruins atmosphere for me. But the music in Aion was fantactic. It is one of the very few games I've left the music on while I played.

The artwork is a matter of taste, really. I'm not a huge fan of WoW's art style, but I'm not a huge fan of anime either so they're both "meh". Your tastes will probably be different than mine so you'll have to make that call on your own in term of graphics.

Gameplay, in general, is very standard and feels like most other MMO's out there, including WoW. You get a hot bar with your little abilities, a mini map, standard paper-doll for gear, bags etc. Combat feels like a mix of WoW and LOTRO to me.

Quests are very much standard like in most other "quest" MMO's. Go get xx of these and collect x of this and drop off this to so-and-so on the way.

Did not get a chance to try the PVP, but be aware this game does have open PVP after level 25 if you go to the standard leveling area. That means anyone from the opposite faction can kill you at any time in those areas, much like PVP-realms in WoW where it's open PVP outside the newbie zones and cities. I don't know how well it's balanced or how bad the griefing gets, I suppose it will be comparable to most other MMO's with open PVP though.

In short - if you are bored of WoW but not bored of a linear, themepark leveling game you might enjoy this one. If you are bored with theme-park MMO's you'll not find much here to divert your attention, unless you are a huge fan of open PVP or Korean anime art games.  It's a solid game, but in no way does it offer anything "new" for most MMO vets. It all depends on how burnt out you are.
