People constantly told me "Runes of Magic!", and it sucked imo. I just can't stand the feel of it.

I'm downloading Requiem, so hopefully that can keep me entertained.

I used to play NexusTK/Dark Ages, and I enjoyed them, as well as Maplestory, and Runescape for the time. I've also played GW, and it held my fancy until I hit endgame, and everyone was so pro I couldn't take it. My favorite of them all has to be NexusTK, but with the Indo take-over and the corrupt judges, I had to leave.

I want something with classes, levels, skills, stats, and where the classes are balanced and actually matter..like where a mage can't take over the priesting class because their heals are just too weak, or rogue taking over tank, etc.

PvP - Territorial, guild vs guild, arena, battleground, open player killing, full loot, partial loot, faction, flagged only player killing, sieges, or duels I prefer it to be mainly PvE, but a light PvP system is nice. I like Guild battles, sieges, arena, etc..I really like the mass PvP, but one-on-ones are nice every once in awhile.
Solo or group oriented Mainly group oriented, with some solo elements.
Graphic style - Cartoon, anime, or realistic I like NexusTK's style, but I also like realistic as well..not the blocky try-to-be-realistic-graphics..I hate those.
Leveling preference - Quest, PvP, or mob grind Quest and Mob Grind
Free to play (F2P) or pay to play (P2P) F2P is nice, but I'm open to P2P..as long as I get a decent trial.
World - Open, mostly instanced, or balanced I'm usually more satisfied with open..GW instanced type worlds get so lonely.
Controls - Point and click, WASD, or arrow keys WASD
Theme - Fantasy, sci-fi, historical, real life, horror, or super-hero Fantasy, possibly horror.
MMO Type - Role playing game, first person shooter, fighting, strategy, racing, social, dancing, or sports RP
Game Difficulty Medium to Hard.
In depth character customizations Always a plus.

To you i suggest 2 games:

1) Vanguard.

2) Ryzom.

I personally like Ryzom better and the community is easier to reach. Read it in this thread what i said to someone else asking for a game: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/240590/page/2

I dislike Ryzom.

Haven't tried Vanguard, but I might give it a shot.

What about Sword of the New World?

Vanguard IS a great game, it only lacks population. Sword of the New World, like you said with RoM, I just didn't like the "feel" of it, the controls were weird and if I don't feel comfortable with controls or if it's too confusing in the beginning, I immediately uninstall. It doesn't hurt to give anything a try, it's only opinions.

I'm currently waiting for Aion and i'm able to access all of the closed beta events because I pre-ordered. I'm quite happy with that game and you might want to give it a try as well. Others games to look forward to is Final Fantasy 14, Diablo 3 and Soul n Blade.

I'd say wait for aion, I loved lotro because of the lore and the people that are in my guild, I loved gw because its very accessible and it can get very technical too, Atlantica online was fun for a while because its so different from everthing else, runes of magic felt meh (I'm not a wow fan, might explain a lot), rappelz is a joke, eve is the greatest mmo imho but the part that interested me was intensive corp war which involves playing more than I could.

I'd say try a few trials and see for yourself.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

LoTR is primarily PVE but it does have a PvP game system that you can play against player played monsters.  Kinda unique. It is pretty open although largely solo except for instances that are group oriented.  Fantasy, an good pop.

Vanguard great classes and very open world.  There is a free trial.  Not really pvp oriented.  You can dual and there is an arena but classes are not really balanced for pvp.  Has some solo questing, small groups and full group content spread across all levels.  Pop is very distributed so the world after the trial island has an low pop.

Warhammer is more RvR oriented but similar to wow in many ways.  So if you didn't like the look of wow this will probably not do it for you either.

Aion is not out yet but looks like it could be good.  Looks like you have a lot of PvE stuff upto around 25 when you start getting missions into a PvP area.  The PvP area is contested by also has a computer 3rd faction that might help or fight you depending on how your faction is doing relative to the other one.  ie the leading faction is hated by the npcs and friendly to the other faction.  There are also citadels that factions fight to control.  So far it seems largely solo oriented but there is group content I just have no experience based on which to judge.

Final Fantasy Online might suit you, all the jobs are balanced, a damage Dealer can take a couple of hits then die, so each job has its place, Its Group orientated and you can solo, but mostly heavy grouping, its really fun, the endgame is fun too, at least ive heard that, never got there. There is PvP but its extremely small and people only do it for fun, 20 jobs all together, subjob system, Crafts, storylines very nice storylines, you should give it a shot.

I'm in a similar boat.  I tried Ryzom the last couple of nights and was getting engrossed in learning the game-play, logged on tonight for 10 minutes and died twice a little distance out from the area of the starting area, chatted for a heal to forgo the death penalty and got no responses, then realized that the population is so diminished in the game that it actually detracts from the fun.

I fired up Requiem and am having fun with it. There are more players on and I enjoy the learning curve stage along side with other players around the newbie areas.  It's populated from what I can tell, the game-play is korean-style, but big deal, it seems a like there's more activitity on the pvp server I'm on.  But boy oh boy are the quests grindy and rubber-bandy. :)

Edit: Oh yea...Aion, is my next goto mmo.  I am very interested in the greater blend and breath and depth of mixed pvp and pve, and the polish is akin to purchasing a new car with all the features imbeded out of the box rather than having a gps stuck on the dash and a cd player sitting out and wired to the console from my passenger-side seat.
