Mortal online looks promising if the community gets policed a little better then DF. And yes i mean policed. many of these players should be locked away and forgotten.

I've been mmo'ing for years now and have gotten to know the kind of players who want free-for-all pvp with full looting by their forum posts.

So I had a fair idea of what to expect on entering Darkfall.

What I hadn't expected was how flimsy and in most cases exploitable the game mechanics are, so that you actually have to be more wary of "friendly" same faction players than the "enemy" ones.

And you're right - they are largely unpoliced. I actually took a few minutes to read their ToS just to see what it covers - and it prohibits a lot of activities that players openly talk about on chat channels.

Two weeks in - I've spent one week doing almost nothing but harvesting/crafting inside cities (yeck!), and another week on bloodwalls, trying to get my skills high enough so that I'm not instantly owned by any and every psychopath cursed with a small wang who gets a kick out of killing near naked newbies.

And realistically I'd have to spend at least another month or two mindlessly bashing/casting at afk players on bloodwalls before I might start enjoying the game.

On the plus side, if they're playing DF, they're not playing whatever other mmo I end up playing instead of this.

The problem is that if MO offers more content, I think the majority of Darkfall players will migrate to MO. Then you will run into the same that you are seeing now. Hopefully MO will make it hard to hack/macro, so they don't run into the problems this game has.

Neither game will be a huge hit in my opinion. I do think MO will be the better game though. I have no facts to back that up, but more of a gut feeling. I just think that Star Vault is more open and honest about what is going on in their game compared to Aventurine.

Pickles & Cheese!

I had decided to give DF a try of my own. The pvp video I saw (100vs100) looked like a blast. So I bought and downloaded it. I enjoyed it for two days. I've already moved on. The community sucks, the majority of people don't even communicate with one and other.

Grinding non-stop on Goblins just so that I don't get killed by other players is boring as hell, and I'm not going to macro/exploit, because I don't believe in cheating (though I'm beginning to think that since they've taken little initiative to fixing it, maybe thats what the game is based around?) and I don't want to hold up in a city.

I don't mind FFA PvP games. I enjoy sandbox games immensely, but with all the hacking going on, without doing it too, it'll take forever to be as good as anyone else, and therefore, ruins the gameplay.

Another breaker for me is the fact that it is almost always dark. I even had to turn my gamma up. I never seem to be playing while its daytime in that game, lol.

So, ever since my run-in with DF, I took the initive to start spending some time over at the MO boards and I am loving what I'm seeing. I am so excited to play that game! I really hope the community is much nicer and that the gameplay far exceeds my expectations.

So far, just in general it looks like it's going to be good. But I too hope that the game is "policed" better then DF is. If so, it won't matter if the community from DF joins, because they wont be allowed to act like a$$hats there and get away with it.

So far, there has been an ENORMOUS difference between at least the forum communities of Darkfall and Mortal Online.  The MO forum is obviously much better policed, and isnt' the compete cesspool that Darkfall's is.

As long as the proper systems are in the game - ones that will allow it to be an actual sandbox MMO - I'm hoping that the overall in-game community in MO is as good as the forum one.  Of course, if the systems don't work, it'll likely be just as bad as Darkfall.

No question, though - Darkfall's community, both forum and in-game, are the worst I've ever seen, and AV appears to encourage it by not policing it.  It think it's all a part of that pseudo-hardcore image they were trying to create.  It backfired, badly.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

So far, I adore the MO community. There's not a lot of nitpicking at one and other and everyone seems mildly patient for the game. They're addressing great ideas for the game and the devs so far have been listening intently on what we have to say, and for that I appreciate it immensly. I truly hope that the game will be a good one. I'm looking so forward to it. I loved the ideas behind Darkfall but its such a shame that Aventurine just couldn't stick to their guns and put the proper things in place, along with actually fixing the problems that have become prevalant in the game. The exploiting & macroing is abundant and the lack of things to do is also rather apparent.

Hopefully a lot of the things that have been discussed on the MO boards will actually pan out. The city ideas are absolutely wonderful at the moment. After going through and reading the entire powerpoint crafting & harvesting even sound like a blast and a new experience.
