Im glad to see that finally, for once, the community is HAPPY. Man, i gotta tell you, since i signed up for this website i have not read as many positive reviews in one place as i have seen here. This shows that DDOU will be a hit, or at least i expect it will be. Hopefully this will be the highest quality F2P MMO, and if it is you can surely see this game easily turning into an AAA and household MMO name. |

I will give it a go. I always thought it was interesting and actually bought it at release but lost my CD key and was never able to play it beyond the beta. That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming! |

Nope. I was in the beta and played for a month or two after release. It's not what I want in a D&D MMO. Far from it. "Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..." |

DDOU may be a hit, but the truth is DDO never had good player retention and making it F2P is not by itself going to change the fact that DDO simply does not appeal to the masses and as the game is currently set up never will be a mass appeal game.
Turning into a AAA and household name? You must be a fanboy. |

As a free game, I would give it a go. I've only ever played the trial and I don't see it as a game I would stick with long term. I'll echo some other's comments that it just wasn't what I expected from a D&D title. it would certainly be nice to have another option to play though, and it would be interesting to see how a former P2P MMO makes the transition. -mklinic "There's a point I think we're missing. |

And on top of that, subscribers, and non-subscribers can currently in the beta earn store points by earning "Favor" I did this in the beta by mearly completeing the starting quest. So honestly worst case scenerio, use the money you normally pay for the subscription and buy the points needed to unlock the warforge. In the current beta <NDA is lifted> Warforge, and dark elf are the only races you have to buy with points. And the Monk and Favored Soul are the only classes you have to buy with points. The cost is really not very big as long as the numbers stay the same at release. Weapons, armors, etc... like someone else said, mainly just small twinking abilities for a starting toon. Nothing major. Potions of healing, and spell points will most likely be the money makers for the store, as well as ammo, and spell components. You can also buy hirelings in the store, or from an NPC in game, so you can buy the same hireling with real money, or play money. Currently there are XP potions in the store, I think they were 20% XP gain for 3 hours, or for 6 hours. Those were probablly the biggest item in the store that would give someone spending real money an edge over a player that chose to spend no money. There are also cosmetic things, hair dyes type stuff.
I liked this game when I played the beta when it originally was comming out, but I didn't buy it because friends were haunting me about playing something else at the time. I will be playing now in this free version, atleast until something better comes along, and I will most likely spend real money on points here and there, just because. If I spent $5 or $10 dollars a month here and there on store points, it still saves me money. and I don't have to spend the money to keep playing it. Not so nice guy! |

I'm positive about what I play. If it ends & I get negative, I move on. This is how we not troll. |

Yea i will be playing it! The beta is looking real good and all the small things makes the game feel much better now. Anyone know if there will be an unoffical European server or if there are EU guilds on the US servers? If WoW = The Beatles |

I will have a European guild, but it's for Polish players. Arcane Brotherhood PL - if someone from Poland reads it, send me a message! Other than that, I think we should open a thread here and chose ONE server for all European players. US time makes it harder to play with US people, so we should, as Europeans, group on one server. In other words, let's choose one server which will be unofficial European server in DDO US

After playing the beta and seeing that Turbine really hasn't learned from previous mistakes, I am going to decline playing DDO even as a free game.
Nerfs to XP for popular missions (thereby making it more dependent on doing every little quest in order to level) in addition to the new 'Dungeon Alert' system just make this game unplayable for me.
For those of you who haven't caught on to what Dungeon Alert is - this mechanic forces you to kill every mob in a dungeon in order to avoid having MAJOR debuffs on your party if they try to sneak past mobs. This mechanic is extremely undermining to good Dungeons and Dragons play, and is a way to cover Turbine's ass in their poor decision to use shared hardware instead of dedicated server farms. The Dungeon Alert is a way to control lag during in game play (serious stuttering). Turbine blamed it on players not killing every mob in every dungeon for the lag problem, rather than their own shoddy servers.
That's just the final straw - it's all down hill for them from here. |

Turbine should save all money they got and make a Asherons Call 3 with Cryoengine 2 or unreal engine 3. Check what they made Acherons call 1+ 2. Also look at some other games and make really good one. |

I doubt I will play it again. I did not like it when I tried it before and making it free is not going to change that. |

Yes, absolutley. This is a classic mmorpg, in the role-playing sence. Character customization is graet, hero/class diversity is great, graphics are good, gui and system flexibility is graet, story is great with the vocal narratives as your questing, and quests are very appealing. . .not to mention grouping is really fun and immersive.
This game really should at least be tried by anyone that is remotely interested in mmo's; and its free right now. |

I would be giving it a whirl if Codemasters brought it to Europe. The low population etc is offputting for me. But with going F2P it should breathe new life into the playerbase and make the game alot more enjoyable. |

We need to create unofficial European server on F2P DDO: US and advertise it on various forums. That way there will be lots of players on any possible hour - either EU or US folks.
