Hello Everyone,

I'm about to play WAR, AoC, and AION tonight, just to see which one is worth playing. About how much time would you suggest I should play each one to get a real feel of the game? Is there one of them you'd label as not worth trying?

Thanks for your opinions =]

Playing ToR
Played AoC, Aion, EQ2, CoH, Rift, WAR, WoW

I played WAR and did not like the game. I have been enjoying playing AoC recently. AoC has really turned around since its bad launch. I plan to give Aion a spin this weekend. My suggestion is try each of them out and play the one you like. You can get free trials for both AoC and WAR.

I'd say WAR to 30, AOC to 40, and AION to 25.

By each of those levels you should have a good idea of

- the gameplay mechanics outside of the elder game stuff

- whether or not oyu can stomach another 5 levels, let alone geting ot the cap

- how crafting works and how accessible cash and resources really are

- how players outside the newbie area really are

WAR is fun until you hit tier 3 (level 20 to 30 zones)...
then it goes down hill (or at least did, that could have changed)

So play WAR to about 25, to get the real feel for the game.

AoC, I really need to try again, see how much better it has gotten.

Hmm, how do play AION? It's not released in the western hemisphere, or do you play the Chinese beta?

Dont know about AION

For AoC you need to pay past level 20 to get a good feel for the game

For WAR, the best gauge is T4 (Lev 30-40). However, you can get a decent feel for the game by lev 10.

You can play in the Aion preview weekends by putting down a refundable $5 for a pre order. It is pretty easy to check out all three games if you desire to. AoC is fun now. I am thinking about Aion as well thou. I am looking forward to this weekend to play in the preview.

Thanks guys, I'll post my opinions so far and hopefully get to those levels.

WAR- level 10.

This game is very much like WoW.. Even the camera at the ebginning and the voice introducing you to the world is the same. The quests are a little more interesting, but essentially, it is WoW with a more PvP oriented world.

AION- Level 5

This game has stunning graphics, but I didn't think the graphics made it worth the grind. Think of it as WoW with better graphics, worst quests, worst game mechanics, and higher graphic requirements. If you're mostly into graphics and sexy looking avatars, you'll like it.

AoC- Level 10

I enjoyed this game quiet a bit, it didn't have so much of the WoW feel to it. I haven't had any technical issues so far. We'll see how it goes.

"(WAR)...essentially, it is WoW with a more PvP oriented world."

The Warhammer universe was conceived years before WoW was a glint in Blizzards eye, but I agree on the play analysis.

WAR for PVP (unless they have sorted out the PvP issues in AoC). AoC for that real world feel with amazing graphics. Aion is the dark horse, not sure about that one.

That's no good excuse for the MMORPG to be like War.  WoW the MMO was conceived a couple years before Warhammer.

Blizzard copied the Warhammer IP (actually Blizzard wanted to secure the rights to the Warhammer IP back before they made Warcraft, but Games Workshop refused because they weren't a well known company back then, so Blizzard went ahead and made their own similar IP), but that doesn't mean Mythic should have copied the WoW gameplay.

AoC should be fun till about 40 then you'll probably notice it has a lot of issues.  The issues become even more apparent if you do decide to go to the level cap.  It's worth buying and playing for 2 months or so (depending on how fast you level).  Keep in mind that if you are expecting the same or higher quality as you progress past 20 in AoC you will be sorely dissappointed because it simply goes downhill (and keeps going downhill) from there.

Warhammer will be fun if you like WoW scenarios and you can do them from level 1 on.  The PQ system is a great idea, but sadly I think it's a bit poorly implemented and thus it may be hard to find people doing PQs.  The Tome of Knowledge (think achievements) is also a fantastic idea and it is decently implemented so if you like hunting for achievements than Warhammer is a great choice.

Aion has a few things it does superior to WoW (besides graphics), but I still think WoW is the better game in the end.  What killed it for me was people starting ganking and griefing at level 25 and I couldn't avoid it (even staying out of the PvP Abyss area wasn't safe).  Unlike WoW it doesn't give you any defense against griefers either as all your CC spells will get resisted (in WoW, you could still CC a high level at least half the time).  I'd say Aion shines between levels 10-25.

Good summary and that is pretty much how I feel about each of them even after playing them to much higher level. I greatly prefer AoC to the other two, but I would understand why a person who likes PvP would prefer Aion or WAR.

How is it a good summary when he compares everything to WoW?

Not all of us have played WoW and the op never mentioned any experience of it.  I'm burned out on that game and I've never even set a virtual foot inside of it.

LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa

Not sure about Aion but may try that one out.

War was okay but diappointed me. Crafting was limited, Orvr was nothing more than musical keeps and slowing framerateson a gaming rig, and bland PVE. Its not a bad game but it didnt keep me intrested.

AOC has vastly improved since launch and and have had lot of fun with the guild im in. Its not the best game out there but darn good right now.

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

I guess he could have compared everything to Meridian 59. WoW is a game that everyone (except you!) is familiar with. Its a good frame of reference.

Also, you didn't notice that I didn't compare AoC to WoW, I contrasted it. =]...

I've been playing the games a little more today, and what I found was that the communities for the games were vastly different.

WAR

Nice community, met many helpful players and others who were very friendly.  Although I didn't see very many players running around.

AION

Exactly what you'd expect from a shiny game.. Lots of annoying kids who won't stop complaining about how they got killed.. I just turned off all the chats.

AoC

Pretty good community, with the occasional jerk here and there. It seemed to be a more adult crowd. My only complain is the lack of players. it's supposed to be an MMORPG.. With emphasis on the first M, Massively.

I play on the NA servers. Of those, Wiccana (pve), Set (pve), Cimmeria (rp - pvp), and Tyranny (pvp) have easily the highest populations. Because of free transfers awhile back, most folks ended up on one of these. The NA AoC community is pretty good (or at least on Wiccana). I have no clue what European servers are like.

Aion is the new high profile game. I am waiting on seeing how effective NCsoft is at combating griefers. I hope that they do a good job.

I hope NCSoft makes the right move and quickly..because the griefers are a massive turn off.

Read 1.2 patch notes, if it doesn't satisfy you enough, then I guess Aion is way too pvp oriented for some people.

It's not the PvP which am worried about, it's the people doing it and constantly complaining. let's say you go to watch the greatest movie ever created, and throughout the best scenes you get kids yelling and crying because their favorite character died..It would ruin it, no matter how good a movie it was.
