Ok, I recently read a thread that Aion is what DAoC fans are looking for since Mythic let us down with WAR. So with that in mind, I have a few questions. 1) DAoC was best known for its end game RvR. Is it true that Aion has Keeps / Towers that can be controlled and upgraded by guilds? 2) What is the drive behind Aion's PvP? DAoC had 2 relics of power for each of its 3 realms that you could fight over for control. Which in turn gave realmwide bonuses in both PvE and RvR. Does anything like this exist in Aion? 3) It was also stated that Aion has something similar to DAoC's Realm Abilities. Which are basically abilities purchased with points earned while killing enemy players. Is this true? 4) DAoC was smart enough to keep about 95% of its PvE separate from any form of PvP so that if you needed to level in peace you could and if you wanted to fight, there was plenty of action in the Frontier. Can you hit the level cap in Aion strictly through PvE or do you have to PvP at some point to reach max level? 5) DAoC had issues in RvR with Crowd Control such as, whoever mezzed / stunned the other person / group first usually won the battle. Is the CC in Aion overwhelming or did they manage to minimize it to shorter durations vs. DAoC's 9 sec stuns and 60+ sec mezzes. 6) Classic Server DAoC, you know, the ones without the stupid ToA expanions BS usually had some lengthy fights that could last for hours and were entirely too fun the whole time. How long is the average battle in Aion for say an 6 vs 6 encounter and also for all out zergs. 7) DAoC was fairly dependant on gear to be any good in RvR / PvP. How important is the gear in Aion when it comes to PvP? 8) Leveling in DAoC was a snap which for PvP / RvR games is the best way to go. No one wants to wait 3-6 months to get into the meat and potatoes of the game. Aion has been labeled a grind, yet compared to Lineage and most other asian marketed games, its been rumored to be a lot less of a grind. Is this true and what is the level cap by the way? 9) DAoC is like 1 of maybe a handful of games with the intelligence of allowing players to customize the color of their gear. Dyes in game were ranged from ugly colors at cheap prices to more desired colors for a good chunk of change. How easy is it to dye your gear in Aion and is it Merchant sold or drop only? 10) Healers / Buffers in DAoC definately made leveling and RvR a lot easier, but potions were available that eventually gave every class easy access to healing and buffs. Aion supposedly has long timers on potions / bandages which means Healers are once again a high demand class, as they should be. Is this true? Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions as I am an extremely miserable but huge fan of DAoC which is basically on life support. Unfortunately, WAR was a complete letdown and so I'm looking for an MMO that I can pick up where DAoC left off. |

This can answer some of your abyss questions (it's a little outdated): www.areyouhellbound.com/forum/showthread.php Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

At lvl 25 the Abyss is opened for you and there you have to watch your back and can fly everywhere so Death from Above/Below are factors if you are not careful. But there are many places that can be much much safe than others in all areas. 5) There is some CC in AION but with most classes on an even keel whoever gets the jump definatly has the advantage. 6) Some fights can last a while 1 vs 1 and group vs group, some fights can go fast if the lvl diff is a big one. 7) Gear is very important. 8) The lvl cap should be 50 in the NA release and is in Korea but not so yet in the Chinese version. I leveled a Gladiator to 31 in a month (that is also lvling gathering and a crafting proff to lvls above my current need) 9) Dyes are sold by NPC and the colors are limited but there is supposed to be shade pedals (I believe looted-havent seen them yet). The shade pedals can be used to tweak the base colors. 10) The timers are not long really but having healers is very important for group activities and often a 2 healer group is important save spending more time completing fights etc. |

FYI, there is an NPC dye vendor in the main city Pandaemonium and I have never once had a dye drop on the Chinese version. |

Aion is a bit like DoAC, but the fact is, the PvP isn't as strict as DoAC at all. |

Oh, crafting is another huge plus in MMO's and DAoC had quite a few different types of professions with which to choose from. How many different types of crafting professions does Aion have and how does resource gathering work? Also, are you limited to 1 gathering and 1 crafting profession or can you have 2 gathering or 2 crafting? |

The crafting professions are weaponsmithing, armorsmithing, tailoring, handicrafting(woodwork, and jewelcrafting in one),alchemy, and cooking. There are two "harvesting"professions, but both are auto acquired and can be maxed. You can learn all 6 crafts, and can take all up to expert level, but can only master level one of them. For harvesting, the resources are found in nodes all over the place. You walk up and click, and then your character tries to extract the resource. There is a pass bar and a fail bar that each fill automatically. So long as the pass bar fills before the fail bar you gather the resource. Also, some things(mostly alchemy plants) have a "rare" resource that you sometimes get out of the node.At least as far as I have gone, each node has 3 attempts before dissapating, with the exception of aethers. Aether harvesting nodes are found up in there sky in certain areas, and you must fly to reach them. They seem to last as many as 10-15 attempts each, but a full flight bar is only good for about 2-3 attempts usually,so it can be time consuming to gather them. |

If you've ever played Vanguard, the game has a similar work order system for leveling the skills. takes no materials.but does have costs in vendor bought reagents. Leveling the professions is not particularly hard, but it is time consuming and extremely expensive. Also, for the quests to Advance to master level, you must get multiple "critical" crafts, which are completely random. As far as I know, there are no level requirements, but i did not try and keep my crafting to pace with my character level,so I don't really know. I put an edit on my previous post with an explanation of harvesting as well. |

Ok, you can lose Abyss Points when you die, but they are only used to purchase stuff correct? It's not like having a huge pile of Abyss Points gives you a title, bonus or advantage right? I kinda like how that sounds to be honest, cause that makes achieving some of the best PvP raid gear a challenge. I'm also guessing you get more AP from players higher level than you and less from players lower level than you. Does this also mean you get like 0 points for ganking greys? Cause I hope theres no incentive for ganking lowbies, lol. |

I do believe the special dye is from not a drop but using your gathering skill (korean server). While gathering mat's there is a % chance of getting these dye petals (1 in every 200 mats). gathering is one thing, it covers mining, herbs, fishing, lumber jack ect its all 1 profession, wich you just automaticly have. you need to keep it lvled up but was no trainer for it. and i think you can have all the crafting ones tho on 1 charcter. you also get character exp for gathering and crafting. its not a alot but better than nothing. there is alot of crafting types in aion. alchemy, tailor, armorsmith, weapon smith, umm one for bows and stuff can't remember the name think 1 or 2 more. and you need to keep Aether gathering lvled as well, its the only gathering seperate frm the rest and at lower lvls its a pain. the nodes are floating up in the air around the flying areas. and since flying is on a timer you can't just go out gathering a ton of it. Aether is used in every profession |

yeah as some one else said its like vanguards if you played it, well how you can lvl it is like vanguards but not how you actually craft. you get like quests to craft things for your city, like road signs and things. they give you most of the mats but you have to buy like 1 or 2 things from the vendor to complete it. gets expensive, but its extra things its not the only way to lvl it. you can also lvl it the way you do in most games where craft a bunch of items you have mats for, the quests just makes it a bit easier and less time consuming. it still takes a long time to lvl but its not as bad as running around for hours gathering mats to make 100 daggers and then crafting 100 daggers for an hour. and the crafting quests i found interesting sorta, it wasn't like go make me 100 stakes so you can learn to cook. was like they wanted you to help with the messhall feeding the army, or the road signs for the town,or crafting armor for the new recruits ect. |
