(1) AION has a RA system like DAoC. With passive stat boni as well as powerful abilities on timers. People get a real sense that their characters grow stronger through RvR. You can save up Abyss Points gained from RvR kills for uber gear. (2) There is no PvE grind for gear and AION has DAoC-style crafting, and spellcrafting. You can craft or gain RVR reward gear for the "ultimate" template based on a mix of crafted and RVR earned gear.In AION there is real crafting. Armorcrafting, weaponcrafting with secondary skills like woodcrafting that allows you to reinforce keep doors and repair them. (3) AION has 'The Rift' is in-game PVP dungeon that is very similar to Darkness Falls. (4) The layout and size of the "inner keeps" is very similar to the keeps in DAoC RvR zones and BGs. As with DAoC, AION has destructable walls and seige weapons (5) AION has 6x6 combat - this rules. It is possible for strong but differentially balanced 6 man groups (e.g tank groups or mage groups) to take out 16 man and even 24 man groups. (6) RvR End game is immense, offering all kind of merit, status and rewards for individuals, clans and realms. (7) CC is smart but not overwhelming and can be dealt with by good healers and other classes. (8) Like DAoC, AION is extremely elitist. (9) Unlike DAoC you can RvR in-flight mode, liked a Winged Angel or a Demon :)

We'll see. While I don't believe post count measures the merit of a poster, I do believe it can be a good counter-indicator toward simply being a shill. I'm not saying you are, but I am saying that I will likely take your opinion with a grain of salt. To date, you've had 3 posts. Two of them are glowing recommendations of Aion, and one briefly talks about DAoC. Is this a new account? I could have sworn there was another poster with a very similar name on the forums not long ago. |

Sounds like they best just play DAOC if it's the DAOC features they so desire in a MMO. No need to hop to another more of the same MMO, but with a bit of flight thrown in. |

Now if it only had 8 man groups it could have been perfect. But I agree, more and more, its sounding like Aion might be more akin to DAOC than any other game in recent years. "Just because you aren't paying doesn't mean it's not PTW." - Amaranthar |

Originally posted by IAmMMO There are many things wrong with your statement: 1) DAoC is very old and out-of-date 2) Even if Aion has many of the old features that were in DAoC , Aion improves on it. 3) DAoC is pretty much dead, you can't have a true RvR if only 2 people play it (greatly exaggerated I know, but you get my point) 4) Remember EQ? Remember WoW? Eq had good features, many people like the features in EQ because it was good for both hardcores and casuals, WoW took that approach and improved on it. What you're saying is, if people liked the features in EQ so much why not stay in EQ? The answer is because games like EQ and DAoC are getting old, their features are getting old, they need polish or repairs and what WoW and Aion does is improves those features. Finally, your point about how games with the same features but slightly new twists really irks me in a bad way. It's like saying, the original Ipod had good features, many people liked it, but they released new Ipods, like the Ipod Nano. If people liked the old Ipod so much why not stick with the old Ipod? Because people want something new, not old. |

Except DAoC is nearing 9 years old.. The OP is posting a new game with features that maybe appealling for fans of DAoC. (and non-DAoC fans(me), as those features do sound interesting) |

Aion is NOTHING like DAoC, and this is probably the worst comparison I've ever seen. |

I don't know about that. However; I'm doing a big review tomorrow on Aion. Started playing it today with the English patch and I'm LOVING it. Mix of Perfect World, WOW, Lineage 2 (Especially O Course), Requiem Bloodymare, Silkroad, and even a few other games. It's almost like they took 10 of the most popular games (A few not being so popular) and mixed them all together in one. It's going to be a very popular game over here in the states. I'm going to order my collectors edition next week along with the new computer I'm building for it as well as other new games coming out.
I'm only level 9 but based on what I've seen and how unique pvp is after level 25, I'm giving it a 8.5/10 so far. All you DAOC Vets come on over. |

I haven't gotten a chance to play yet, but plan to play this next weekend, and have been rather confused as to why people keep comparing this game to WoW rather than DAoC. I rather agree with your points and look forward to a DAoC like experience. |

Well, I don't think it's anything malicious. Peel back the veil a bit, and people's motivations tend to become apparent. You obviously like DAoC a great deal. You additionally like Aion. If you look at Solareus's posts, almost all of them are on the Aion boards. He too is likely a big fan of Aion. His motivation is likely not that he dislikes Aion. Rather, he likes it and/or has a lot of hope for its NA release, but your idealized version of the game is very different from his. If you look at how he posts, he tends toward sarcasm or cynicism when confronted with direct optimism and/or enthusiasm, so that's merely his way of saying things. You two might very well be different sides of the same coin. |

What does that mean? Other than that it seems like AION is the game WAR should have been. Too bad it has that weird Anime style, really hate that and probably the main reason why I wont like the game. |

Being a female reviewer doesn't give cred points! :D
But yeah, i used to love DaoC, maybe i should give Aion another shot really. I didn't really get into the "feel" of it. I'll see what i'll do or if there will be another beta batch thingy laters. The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon |
