Originally posted by solareus That is a good point with the lighting and special effects , as I said before, a lot of the effects in Aion can be seen in Cabal Online. I found very little excitement in the depth of the graphics. THe only way to compare would be to show screenshots.. : In these 4 screenshots we can see different elements of special effects from fire, different levels of mist, ambient lighting, transparent effects. These are just a small portion of lighting effects that are an "additive" not a focal point. Enhancing a game world with quality lighting is a great point. As for Aion , I've see a few screenshots of fog , bright "Cabal" style effect, basically things that have bbeen done before in Korean mmorpgs. Also when you turn Dx10 you even get a deeper palette of lights like in this shot where the moon really does cascade ambience in the scene:
As far as skin and the bones of LotrO, I've not seen anything come to close to the entire package, Aion strongest point against LotrO, is Character models and Character creation. Crytek engine is definitely not know for it's lights, sorry to say. I would much enjoy to see you screenshots, sincerly .
How many of those games feature lagless 300vs300 pvps? It's all about priorities and game's design, aion devs decided to fool the eye with the usage of distances and low-res textures in order to increase the massiveness, while other games rely in high definition graphics, but they separate the players. Aion, technicaly, uses probably the best reflections and color moods seen in any MMO, in AoC, for example, your char still looked brown while in a vulcano area, in Aion, your char doesn't only look red, but also you see the floor waving and everything turns red, the reflections in armors like this
In L2, btw, they also used certain resources to reduce the load in order to improve the performance, texture repetition and vast fields of nothing were common in siege areas and popular mass pvp spots, if you go to Aden castle, you'll see the same bricks all over the place, that's why it could also feature massive battles, tho, in aion, they've outperformed themselves, the game runs even better than L2 with massive ammounts of people on my computer at least, plus, Aion has a lot of customization options, while in L2's endgame, everyone was wearing the same armor (less texture load) and there were only 5 faces available (even less texture load). |

I'm not sure why a game that is going to have hundreds of players fighting over the same boss in an open environment is being compared to MMOs that instance their content. Aion looks amazing for what it is capable of accomplishing. |

iirc only the first zones are instanced to help overpopulation in leveling spots. |

I spent more time looking at the scenary then I did my own character tbh. So yes I could say that. Yes AoC is a beautiful game, and Crysis took my breath away more then once, but those things are simply not ready to enter an MMO enviroment flawlessly. |

IMO, iv never really botherd me if a game has weak graphics as long as it well made and beautifly put together. for example Vanguard has a high graphics engine and looks like poop imo .

Thanks to the last few peeps that can actually have a civilized conversation. Stg Frog , I agree and disagree with VG, It's shear mass in veiw distance and scale of the world for me, overpower some of the graphic fklaws it has, just Aion does for you. The thing with dx10 is that it leaves the door open for the future. Not talking about dx10 firing a games development tells me that the company is looking for fast cash for something else that will use current gent tech. This in no way is as vast or deep as Vg wehn it comes to character developemnt or world activiteds like Diplomacy and crafting. Some of the basic things like swimming aren't even in this game. Dx10 and dx11 aren't a fad, and developers should see this by now. I'm enjoying a lot of the talk makes me rethink my position or see things differently. The one thing about the abyss though,, how do you enter into it ? |

Try to pre-order and play the preview events and open beta,Then and only then come back with some sort of hate post,or why the game is lacking post. All this thread has done is take you from troll to unknowing troll...just play the game then go from there. |

you never know, they may add it in the future like AOC and LOTRO, but then again DX10 never did anything for AOC (or LOTRO for that matter, but lotro was never a complete fail like AOC), Vanguard may have allot of gameplay features that out way its bad graphics but this is not what the topic is about :D, its about graphics and DX10 :P PS: One thing that annoyed me about VG is that it looks amazing in SC, but when you playe its..meh

yeah, getting 25 is quite easy aswell so you will be in abyss in no time, also givers you time to get used to the game mechanices. |

Ok, at level 25 we go in, how do we actually get into the Abyss , is the Abyss the actual game world ? or is it Instanced ? |

The abyss is a very large zone...its actually broke up into a lower level , core, and upper level. As an elyos you can port over to the abyss at Ethnen Fortress. Theres a short quest at 25 to be able to go in the abyss.
Will actually see pvp before this though via the rift system. Every 2 hours a rift (portal) opens for both sides so you can go through it and come out in each others questing zones. They spawn at random points so they can be hard ot find sometimes, and if you dont bring a expensive bind obelisk when you die you will be back in your own world...the obelisk can be destroyed by other players. Its quite fun surprising an unsuspecting quester and killing him, of course after a few kills a large group usually shows up. |
