You have the code! You have the servers! You have the baying crowd of madmen just ready and waiting to sign up for double-expense monthly charges, minimum duration three months!

What better way to smother TOR while it is still a mewling infant in the cradle!

Imagine! The same people who called you a bald-headed, doughy madman yesterday would tomorrow hail you as a god whose very name would be a killing word amongst your rivals at Bioware and Blizzard!

It would be a bold, audacious, preposterous move! And it would cost you nothing! It's totally Smedley!

Go for it, you bald-headed, doughy madman! Who knows, it mighy even be your ticket to, dare I say it?, the Presidentship-for-Life of Sony Worldwide!

I personally think more but, even if only two servers were fuil up, that's ten thousand players (5000 per server) on a minimum three-month contract:

10,000 x 15 x 3 = $450,000

Cost of 2 x server and getting one fat server room nerd to turn on server = $200 + double whopper with cheese.

I'd say that's not a bad return.

Only problem is they don't. Neither do they have the license from LA to go much further.

Expect it to close soon.

Neither LA nor SOE will admit to their mistake and LA is not smart enough to make a fresh update of SWG pre-nge with new graphics. It wouldn't threaten TOR but actually make a lot of players happy!

Smedley always swore blind that he didn't have the code. However, both Jeff (?) Freeman and Dan Rubenfield later evidenced that he did.

And if you know anything about running a software house, you will know that by the terms of your basic business insurance - which you must have by law - every time you make any changes to the code whatsoever, you must make a copy of the master code.

OK, fair enough, I grant you, it's obvious that Smedley knows nothing about running a software house but he must have have people around him, surely?, who did. His dealer, maybe, his helper monkey or Winky his Imaginary Fried Who Tells Him To Burn Things?

And as for what LA will or will not allow him to do, you know as much as I do - which is nothing. Except that SOE still has the licence.

Thank you, and I agree with your decision to remove 'Smedley, You Magnificent Douchebag' from the title.

It wont ever happen and Lucas Arts wouldn't let it happen even if it was possible to get all the original developers together. Just let SWG die as a fond memory and besides Pre CU was very broken and needed so much fixing that you'd get back into the game and end up hating it.

'It won't ever happen'

Why not?

'Lucas Arts wouldn't let it happen'

Why not? They like money as kuch as the next brand marketing agency - and SWG doesn't compete with TOR.

'Even if it was possible to get all the original developers back'

What? Smedley doesn't need the original developers back. He needs one fat tech peon with greasy skin and a 'I Got Stomped By Fansy The Famous Bard' sweatsshirt to turn the server from 'off' to 'on'.

Just let SWG die as a fond memory

No, I'm sorry, I'm not a cringing defeatist. I believe in Smedley and his crazed dreams of power and money.

'...besides Pre CU was very broken'

A third of a million pre-NGErs would beg to differ with you.

'...and needed so much fixing that you'd get back into the game and end up hating it'.

No, I wouldn't.

yes it is time for a star wars mmo with the time line for the older fans, i loved the game at the start when seeing a jedi was somthing rare, i seen on pre-cu and will never forget it, now you can give the kids there new crap game full of jedi, and a game they need to have there hand held cause not having a tone of quest is alien to them, i never did any quest in swg pre-cu i was happy just running around with my few droids and pets! yes i had both and had a great time taking care of my harvesters now it is time to give us back our game !!!

God I hope not.  PLEASE SOE/LA do NOT put back Pre-CU content.  It was horrible.

Now, if you want to put in the PRE-CU Class system, into today's SWG game then please, do!  But leave all the content, leave all the new bg's, instances and changes but just put back the old class system and I would be happier then a pig in dirt.  But no thanks to going back to the days of solo groups, rancor lair grinding and silly merchant days where people grind out professions just to unlock jedi.

Put in the old class system, leave Jedi in as one of the master classes via Master Brawler, TKM, and Fencer and balance all the defense bonuses from things like the pistoleer tree, rifleman tree and KD/Dizzy's to seperate trees so we don't have the old template stacking issues and call it done!

Yes! You get it! With your re-opened account and my re-opened account, that's an extra thirty bucks Smedley can count on right there to blow blow on hats or his Magic The Gathering card collection! See, Smedley! It's free money! Open the servers now!

Don't bog down Smedley with pedantic detail. This isn't about you. It's about him. It's always about him!

To start with, I don't have "dogs in this fight", I don't have any strong feelings on this subject, one way or the other.

But I *do* have an observation, after looking through the SWG Vets area, and my observation ( or opinion, whatever ) is:

They'd have to be crazy to open a pre-cu server.

Please, hear me out from how I see this as an un-biased side-liner.

Look, the vets are passoniate, and many seem angry - *very* angry. If they open up a pre-cu server, things will not go perfect, they never do. And all that anger will again flare up and lash out at the company, for yet another pounding of bad publicity spread out by angry players across many forums.

The company can only lose, and it's chance to gain anything is small. So just from a business standpoint, opening a pre-cu server would not be worth the risk, due almost entirely by the fans own previous behavior.

I know that ya'll will find some reason to flame this, but there's a lot of truth to what I saying here, at least from what I've seen.

Of course you have a dog in this fight.

You announce that fact with the sentence: "They'd have to be crazy to open a pre-cu server."

That's my entire point. Smedley is crazy. The man who ran MxO into the ground. Who overinvested in EQ2. Who bought Vanguard thinking it was finished. Who introduced the NGE only to lose 200,000 customers.

Crazy?

Yes! Crazy like a fox.

A rabid, frothy fox on amphetamines driven mad by blinding lights and white noise.

And just crazy enough to open a couple of pre-CU servers in the berserk hope it could destroy his mortal enemies over at BioWare.

I hope "ya'll" now get with the programme.

Nope, I still have no dog in the fight, despite your  statement.

And I doubt that Smedley is mentally ill - unless you're a psychiatrist and are making a diagnosis?
