Yup, I know you read the articles posted on Gamasutra or maybe saw it on the Turbine website. Or maybe you might of read my BLOG (cough...cheap plug...cough). Full details also on DDO.com. But it's true and coming down the pipe soon. Could Turbine be one of the many companies to start taking their MMO's to RMT or just responding to the "new economy?" Is this an experiment or the shape of things to come? |

And the first post about it. www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/239205/Dungeons-Dragons-Online-goes-F2P.html
Their version of free to play does borrow heavily from that used for Anarchy Online. |

I'm positive about what I play. If it ends & I get negative, I move on. This is how we not troll. |

Let's not forget this one too. www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/239203/Oh-snAp-DDO-goes-Free-To-Play.html
I'm starting to think DDO is going f2p...not quite sure though. Not enough threads. |

by Suzie Ford, 9 Jun 2009 7:44 pm, she got me by 45 minutes. I actually was reading into it, not to come off as half cocked. LOL, ok. As a journalist I FAIL! But I still have to write about it somewhat. I played Anarchy as a Froob, but never subbed. All that did is unlock content and access to areas. Sort of what they are doing, not the first, but is this the last is my question. Will you play it or avoid it like the plague? |

I'll be playing it again. I enjoy DnD a lot, and enjoyed DDO for what it was, but just couldn't fork over cash for it. Far too many mmo's that provided more of an immersive experience than DDO did. F2P I have nothing to lose, and can therefore justify playing it. Get my best friend, and girlfriend to download the game too, and we should be good to go. He likes playing fighters and tanking types, she likes playing healers and I like playing rogues, so I think we got it all covered pretty much. Just need to find a sorcerer and we'll probably own. If we wouldn't already. |

Based on what I read on the official site I will be returning to DDO. I am very happy to hear they're going to an AO Style F2P format. I've always felt taht 14.95/mo was too much for DDO, I have played it off and on over the years as new content has come out then left within the month that I reactivated for. Very happy to know that I will be able to play the areas they are marking as f2p :) Actually it looks like a hybrid of AO/GuildWars pricing model. |

Western companies that have implemented cash shops so far have done a failure of a job. Judging from the articles, the cash shop in DDO will also be a failure. I don't think the developer truly understands what you should be doing with a cash shop. Selling in-game items directly in a cash shop is always a bad idea. Also like their competitors, Turbine does not understand proper pricing. There is no need for a $14.99/month sub fee. $10 is more honest and is still more then needed to maintain a title. They would sell more subs if they reduced the price. |

Sounds full of fail. They said free content gets more sparse at higher levels, how are you supposed to have fun doing little to no content without buying content? Your not, thats the market plan. Also, buying items from a cash shop? No thank you. |

They may have changed it to monthly, I haven't checked in a few weeks, but I think the catch for having lotro be 10 a month, is if you sub to 3 or more months at a time. |
