From an outdated FAQ on Aionsource, I saw that player housing (and possibly guild housing) is supposed to be a feature that may or may not be included upon release, but was definitely in the plans. Can anyone confirm this? If so, will they be open-world houses (like in UO), or instanced houses (like RoM)? If instanced, will other people be able to be invited in? Can they be decorated, etc? I have multiple girl friends who play MMOs, both those I knew irl first, and many I met over the years in-game (and have met irl or video cam-chatted with so yes, they are actually girls). Girls (not all, but many) like to nurture things. The most common request from the female players I know is that they want houses like in UO. They like to heal and kill and raid and pvp, but then they want to go home and decorate their house and plant a garden. There's nothing wrong with that. It's an easy enough addition to make them happy in their part of our fantasy world. Guys like girls to play games with them. Girls will play more with houses. Guys will enjoy playing more if their girlfriends play more. This equals more $ for the company. Are you paying attention developers? :) Good hunting, Malikye |

First of all i would also like to know about player housing functions possibly to be implemented because i am a fan of player housing systems as well as other RP features.
Second, i dont agree at all with all your girl housing talk, thats extremelly sexist, not to mention you are transforming a great RPG function in some sims like feature for girls, so pull yourself together and dont feel yourself ashamed to ask for such function |

Not to bash but there is a lot of genderizing in your post. I know a lot of women out there that despise "playing house" as you describe. Also, not all women are nurturing souls . . . As far as player housing goes in AIon as far as I know there is none. If there is going to be housing it will all be instanced ala EQ2 but we will see. It's a Jeep thing. . .

Unless you want to go around crying sexism about every gender-targeted ad out there, you should probably pull yourself together.
In any case, from my playing time in Chinese Aion I don't recall seeing anything about player housing. - |

Er, just because something is sexist or sterrotypical doesn't mean it isn't somewhat true. While I cerrtainly can't quote statistics, its quite possible that housing is a more female friendly feature and would make the game more enjoyable for women. No matter how much people want to believe it isn't so, men and women are wired differently and in games some features appeal more to one sex vs the other. (not exclusively of course). Lots of speculation has been done over the years why EVE has a much lower female population than other MMO's, and it is defintiely due to the games design and features. I suspect strongly that once EVE has avatars we'll see more females playing the game, but again, only my speculation. But back to the question, I too wonder if Aion will deliver housing, and if so, when.

Haha... you guys crack me up. I reported my ACTUAL personal experience with players and gaming friends from over 10 years MMO experience, and asked a legitimate question based on the multiple requests that I have heard from female gaming friends. Of course that doesn't apply to all people of a given sex. I stated that it did not. The fact remains that I continue to hear requests for this from girls, all the time. As a matter of fact, 3 female friends who have quit WoW with me due to being BORED to death, and who are openly discussing what might be our potential next long-term game all are asking about that very feature. It has nothing to do with defending anything. It was merely for clarification of the importance of the topic to some people, and one that I have not been able to find an answer for yet. So don't get your panties in a bunch boys, and stick to the topic at hand :) Good hunting, Malikye |

No Aion will not have player housing when the game is released. I remember in 2007 there was the question about it and the developers talked about possibly doing it in future expansions but that was the last i heard of that. |

If we see player housing it will be nothing more than an afterthought. There is just no demand for it anymore, even though I am pretty sure there was never really a demand for housing. Housing along with many other things people have taken for granted in an MMO are slowly being pushed out by those that just don't care. It's a Jeep thing. . .

*sad face. I am female and it's some what true the generalisations of the comments of most women play healers and most women want to raid and go home and decorate their pretty home. I am one of those chicks that enjoy the concept of crafting and being an asset to a guild by providing people with what they need, i was excited for a minute that player housing might have been considered, but i doubt that will happen as well. Nowadays the demand is for high scale pvp and cutting edge anything. Slixie GM of Order of Judgment Vanguard 2+ years | Age of Conan 2 months |LOTR 2 months |Currently playing WAR |

Nothing worse then passing out at the inn and then logging back on to find you are sharing the bed with a stranger. imo, there is no place like home and our own bed. hope they implement this feature. |

Well I don't know if that is exactly it.
In Ultima Online which was my first real mmorpg... Sure I loved *my* housing. On the other hand when half of a continent was blocked off by tent city it was also irritating. They cleaned that up later but I'm sure some of the early quitters still remember it.
Housing has been for the most part moved to the "apartment" mentality.. which I first saw in Anarchy Online. I can't say they were the first MMO to do it.. its just where I first saw it. The same concept that EQ2 uses... where 5,000 people enter the same door to go to their unique *home*.
DAoC of course had a specific housing area when it was added (I don't think DAoC had that at launch... but I honestly can't say I would remember). Vanguard used a similar idea with the housing islands type of concept.
I personally like the idea of housing being part of the world.. yet at the same time I think it has to make sense. Perhaps the biggest issue is the size of the market in todays MMO's.... People cry enough about balance etc... You know very well what the outcry is going to be over housing...
While I don't think that should be the decider... I would say the market size and available resources are most definitely the issue with player housing.
Oh and I would like to end this by saying... I personally thought player housing in Ultima Online was one of the coolest things in the game. I loved to PvP in that game but I also enjoyed the immersion I found in player housing and how people bonded together to try and create towns.
So I really enjoyed the concept of "player cities" in SWG... I just wish some MMO would take that concept and work it out... so that we could have a housing system that "works in the game world" and makes sense... I think it adds to a game world.
Other people think it detracts because people aren't milling around in a static NPC town they can't really interact with... |

I have several real houses. Decorating and Gardening stinks as it is. I definitely don't want to have to deal with that in a virtual environment as well. Only time I've ever used player housing is for storage, and warehouses are a lot easier to administer.
Doesn't mean I'd turn down a game with them in it, but I'm the type of person that thinks they're useless. I do roleplay, but I'm not going to sit around your house for 2 hours doing it. That's what secondlife / sim cities are for. I want to fight for my life and smoosh stuff.

I agree the first MMO i ever played was vanguard and has been the only mmo where i experienced player housing. It was nice you had to seach for where these palyer housing areas could be, they were everywhere by the mountains, by the ocean, near swamps, near cities etc. And in each designated area you could build a guild hall, kind of like your bragging rights for a guild. i do hope that player cities are implemented in this game or at leat in future games, because that has seemed to go away through the years of new mmo's coming out. There will be housing and it's confirmed, but seeing that is at least another year away (or more?). Best not to think about it. They say it will be part of an expansion. -In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. Passed away on Aug/13/08- |

Thanks for the replies. I suppose if we really want it to happen, we should continue to vocally ask for it!
