Few games can handle this many people in one area. This guy is using Fraps at the same time as playing this game. Everyone knows what happens to your FPS when you use Fraps. Game developers need to learn how to build game engines like the game in the video. Even WoW cant handle 200+ players in one area without bogging down. The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else. |

That was actually ingame, and was patched out. Next?

This isnt the point of this thread anyway. Give me a video of any other game (other than Shadowbane) that can handle 200+ players in one area with little lag. You wont be able to. While WoW has an excellent anti-hacking system through the Warden and good anti-hacking support (as well as taking the fight to the companies who market hacks) this statement is absolutely naive. I knew players who would bot in AV everyday and never got banned. I've seen firsthand a character using the Glider Bot program (which WoW recently dealt with after it was in business for a year and a half) level up his/her char to nearly max level before he was banned (a few days after I reported him). I've seen farmers run the same botting patterns over and over in several specific areas at multiple levels (killing elementals at low level for instance). I've seen teleport hackers outside Diremaul who would use the hacks whenever they would get into a PvP situation. I'm sure they were using the hacks in an instance too. It took over 1 week to get them banned and when they did more showed up. There are multiple videos on youtube and other places of people using hacking programs on non-private servers in WoW. There is one hilarious video of a guy dragging a bot off a cliff which took him several hours to do. This wasn't on a private server either. |

Here, I present you a 3 way battle that looks a little better than that L2 video: www.youtube.com/watch PS - its not a Darkfall video. No, teleport hacks are a common hack in WoW and I've seen them used on public servers. You can buy them at some hack sites. They were selling the code for them for over $1000. |

also it was a private server as there was no one in stormwind when on every real server it is crowded to the max. |

Typical WoW video. I counted 20 players running in place. Nope, no lag at all! Couple posts above this one talks about how people are selling the code to live server teleport hacks. There is no game on the market that you cant hack. That's not the point of this thread. Show me a video of a 200 player situation that has no lag. Nobody has done that yet. Someone beat me to pointing out L2. RF Online handles more people in one area than this just fine too. Edit: Finding good movies of RF is a little difficult, partially because the times when you have the most people in one spot are when the battle has ground to a halt or are just beating on an undefended chip and is rather boring to watch. The movie I found after a few minutes with the best direction was www.youtube.com/watch . I've run both L2 and RF at max settings (outside of the siege areas and cities) on systems that don't even meet Darkfall's minimum requirements, so any difference in performance here is just indicative of the computer in use, not the game. |

Planetside wasn't perfect. It probably had worse framerate than the massive fights in DFO, and had some of the silly "dorking around before the battle actually starts" aspect to it too. But man...it seems so entirely superior to that video it's ridiculous. The DFO video is basically summed up as:
Planetside wasn't perfect, but in a base battle I fought other players. I flew air vehicles, piloted (or gunned) tanks, deployed a mobile spawn point vehicle for my empire, and then stormed the narrow passageways of the base, killing players as infantry or power armor (MAX). Planetside regularly had 30+ vs. 30+ fights happening, and frequently had 200 vs. 200 fights. It wasn't uncommon to have 200 vs. 200 vs. 200 fights too. Mysteriously it's tough to find good vids of fights. This was the closest I could find, but like a lot of PS videos you barely even see the enemy (even though basically every day I'd have moments where you epicly fly over a force of 30 or more enemy players -- sometimes more like 150 all in the same base area.) Really Planetside was spammy enough (at times) with as large a focus on single-target weaponry as it had (because friendly fire was on, and that alone would significantly limit when you'd use AOE weapons; too much team damage resulted in a lengthy period of time where you couldn't find any weapon at all.)
Guess I'll keep watching DFO videos to see if some more interesting combat evolves out of the game. But for now it look suspiciously boring (attacking walls) and shallow (spamming ranged AOE / winning via numbers.) Maybe to be fair I'll have to give it a try - because like I said, the Planetside vids I was able to find were pretty cruddy too. |

When we finally get a game BASED on global conquest, only then will 600+ people battles matter. Everyone is basically wearing the same armor in that video, casting the same spell, etc... = BORING!
Here, let me take you back 5 years... Planetside Poor kids these days, trying to tell US whats going on, when they are soooo lost and have no idea whats come before them! LOL!

How about a little less bashing and get back on topic with the siege. Nice city defense with the bottleneck btw |

I miss planetside. truely epic battles at bases, sometimes even better ones at bridgers. its too bad the game is dying or I'd be playing it right now. and Lineage2... if not for the horrible bot problems and exploits I might still be playing that, doing the epic sieges there. the first time you pull out a siege golem? priceless. Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats. |

So I take it that the OP never got to player Plaentside.... One of the best games that nobody ever played. Planetside was undeniably full of win. Even if I was more of a Tribes fan.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2if5GYXOGyo |

Good grief. Just be honest and maybe we wouldn't have these stupid threads. Darkfall isn't anything special in the sieging arena but you had fun so instead of trying to sell the game just describe the siege and say it was fun. Ok? The siege wasn't the topic. The topic was ZOMGWTFBBQSAUCE DFO M0AR AW3S0M3! I watched the video and I wasn't particularly impressed. It was clear that the person who made the video turned off options like shadows as well as others (did you see the water as they ran through it in the first part of the video). Even then, there was lag in the beginning while they were getting ready and there was obviously framerate loss during the siege. On top of that, I doubt there were 200 people in the battle, period. That being said, there obviously weren't the over 4k that were implied by the video information (800 in one alliance, 3500+ in another). So, the topic is about how awesome Darkfall is and uses the video as evidence. I'm using the same video to say it's clearly not as awesome as the OP thinks it is. ~Ripper |

Why is it all the DF fans like to bring up another MMO when trying to make a point, in their favor. Yet when someone else does it, as a counter point. We get the tired response of "you really can't compare that with Darkfall." Javac has a nasty habit of mentioning WoW out of the blue to make a point. As soon as someone else does it though he usually responds with something cliche. Either it's fair game to compare DF with other games, or it's not. I just really wish you DF fans would make up your minds on it though. |

Gratz Op . You showed us that Darkfall finally managed to do a 200 people battle which is what other games have been doing for years now . A truely unquestionable victory
