I'm not surprised you enjoy D&D Online more. You people can compare here, check my (mostly gameplay) videos: www.xfire.com/profile/sarr77/videos/ddo And one particular vid worth seeing. This is repost from recent thread: Who is sneaking here? It's a cleric! He learned to sneak, probably has some items that boost this skill too. And he was also one of the best fighters in that group. Pretty amazing what you can do with your character... Cleric normally is just a healer.

I am sorry to agree - but the game is not what I hoped for either. Was hoping for a wow killer - but it's far fram that. How hard can it be to make "the" game? |

Useless threads about the aion beta, this forum needs more of them. I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long. |

Ahem... This is a forum about Aion - so what is wrong with threads about the beta? |

Don't say that about EQ. EQ was barely close to being similar to WoW. The only thing they had in common was that they were 3d and followed the general mmo criterias IE quests, levels and so forth.
It will not even get a 10th of wows subscribers let alone beat it

Aion is basically the same type of game as WoW with updated graphics and more interesting pvp. Those are the top complaints just about everyone has about WoW - the graphics are cartoony/outdated and the pvp is repetitve as hell. WoW won't 'die' for a very long time because you can run the thing on practically any system. Aion will beat WoW in the global market though, no doubts there. The combat system is just as fluid and more thought out class-wise, so it's really not a hard call to make. It may not beat it in NA, but NA makes up a tiny portion of the total people playing WoW anyway. |

The difference here is that the patches already exist. We are playing on an early version 1.0 ; Korea retail is on v1.3. On the beta forums they have also posted that we will get a higher version at release.

Originally posted by mo0rbid I think the problem is you (and many people) can't tell what is EQ or (as this game is most popular) WoW like type. When every MMO game is almost the same, you start to think that WAR is much different than WoW, and so on. No, it's not. I play D&D Online, and know for sure it's not a clone of anything, nor that any game is similar. Maybe there will be DDO clones in future, but now - this is one of those games that when you played it, you know how similar are games like EQ, WoW, WAR, AION, LotrO, etc. Even AoC isn't much different - something like an EQ style game with some DDO elements, but not enough. Core gameplay is more like WoW or GW. Oh, there is also Guild Wars type. Chronicles of Spellborn and AoC may be in that category. DDO isn't anything like those two as well. So basically, you need to know well enough games that are really unique (played whole trial, or something like that) to tell which are so similar to EQ or WoW, that you may think they are based on the same engine.

Noting wrong with WoW! The graphics are dated but blizzard does known how to make great designs with that there are many details in the world of warcraft the zone designs getting better and better and on pve content no game can compar to WoW! All the world of Aion can fit in the two starter zones of Wotlk.... For pvp WoW may suck but it was never really build as a pvp game in the first place! |

I don't know what cinematics you were watching OP, but this game is gorgeous. It is also built upon a very solid engine, Crytek engine. If you've played the CH version, you will know the game can handle a lot, and I mean a lot of players in one area on full graphics, and not even hitch. Once you get towards endgame, this game is anything but World of Warcraft. I would say more a long the lines of DaoC PVP wise. This is the one game I've played were you can have a mid end rig and run full detail and still top out at 50-60 FPS in the open. And with all that, it looks awesome. Wait till you get into air PVP situations, or get raided by a top level PVP player in transformation. Or well ... get to 30+ and find out for yourself. It's a blast and crafting isn't half bad either. Anyways, gotta run, long drive tommorow. |

What makes Wow so popular? Well for one thing had Blizzard tons of fans who liked the Warcraft world already before the game was released. Also they had the right timing, people were very tired of Everquest who had made too many expansions and a lot of players felt that the game was old and watered down at the time Wow released. And Wow had also 2 of the worlds best programmers working on it. In the beginning Strain put up all the basics and then Kaplan perfected the game and finnished it. Is this the right timing for the next big MMO? Maybe but I think the next year is better, EQ had lost players before Wow released. Have NC soft tons of fans? No, not in NA/EU but they do in asia. Do the world have many fans already? No, not here. Do NC soft have any of the best programmers of computer games? Not any I know of at least.... Aion have already succeded in Asia but did anybody doubt that? But I don't think it have whats it take to dethrone Wow in europe and america, the only game that fits these criterias is Biowares TOR or possibly CCP/White wolfs World of darkness online, if they can get all Vampire fans to play it. Both those game worlds have millions of fans but that is not enough to succed, so does Warhammer. But they are made by companies that think out of the box also, and they have good programmers, particulary Bioware. I see Aion here getting about the same number of subs as LOTRO have or possibly some more but I doubt it will have 1 million subs 6 months after launch here, even half that number is impressive. I don't think doing what Blizzard did with Everquest will work another time either. That does not mean Aion is a bad game of course, or even that Wow is better but it will still not get more subs in EU/NA. |
