I've been impressed with all of the positive feedback I've consistently read about Eve so I decided to give the trial a shot (Currently playing War and LotRO so was looking for a change). I've done a lot of reading about Eve, so I'm well aware that it's a complex game and requires a good deal of patience, especially when just starting out. I first created a Caldari (no real good reason why I chose this race) and had just begun the tutorial when I needed to log off. Between that logoff and my next logon I had a chance to begin reading the new player guide posted in this forum. In it, it states that no race is really any better than the others so go with the one that intrigues you. Given that, I found that I liked the brief backstory of the Amarr better, so back I go to the character creation process and make my Amarr. Problem is, when I enter the game it thinks that I've already completed the tutorial due to the Caldari I created first. So there I am, completely lost and wanting to go through the tutorial. I ask how to get back to the tutorial in 'Rookie Help' chat and someone immediately replies "F12". So far so good. I hit F12 and up comes the tutorial menu, but when I try to launch the tutorial I get the message I need to be undocked. Easy enough, as I see the big "undock" icon beckoning me at the bottom left of the screen. Click it, and I undock. So, there I am sitting dead in space outside of the starting space dock. No clue how to navigate. No clue how to do anything. I felt like the baby bird that had fallen out of the nest. I'm just about to hit F12 to start my tutorial when I get a private message from Aurora74 (keep in mind that this had to have been about 15 seconds, at most, out of the dock). "Would you like some materials (or something like that, maybe he didn't call them materials) that I don't need?" came the message. To which I responded "I haven't even been in the game for 1 minute, so I have no idea what those are for. However, thanks for your generosity." Now, a lot of you probably already know where this is going. And candidly, I was skeptical too, HOWEVER I had read so much about how helpful the community is to noobs that I let my naivety get the best of me. Aurora74 drops the container, but remember, I don't even know how to move. He tells me to pick it up quickly before someone else gets it. Then he thoughtfully tells me not to worry about the message I'll get telling me that I'm stealing because I have his permission. LOL! Again, my naivety gets the best of me and I think "wow, people really are helpful". I must have waited too long, because Aurora74 picks the container back up. Then he asks me to join his group. I do. He warps us away, drops the container and we go through the whole routine again. This time, though, he walks me through how to navigate to the container and loot it (again, not having done the tutorial I was clueless as to basic commands) only this time, you guessed it, he turns around and destroys me. I suppose there was a part of me that wasn't surprised, but mostly I was, simply due to the trouble he went through to act like someone that was just helping out a noob. "Lesson learned. I needed to pad my kills" came the message from Aurora74. Nice. Lesson learned indeed. Don't trust anyone. Nice introduction to Eve. Oh well, at least you get your starter ship back.

Welcome to the harsh world of eve. Don't take from someone elses space can unless you know what you are doing (not only can they attack you, but also the rest of their corp).
If you need advice, hit me up in game: kilvane

Shame you ran into a bottom feeder so early in the game. But he taught you a lesson you should never forget, beware Greeks bearing gifts when playing EVE. Not quite sure what to tell you about the tutorial, haven't run it in a few years and its all new now. But you haven't lost anything much, and he got no honor (or reward) for killing a noobship.

Welcome to EVE! Sorry you had to learn the number one rule so early but you didn't lose anything of importance yet, just remember the name and when you learn enough mark Aurora74 as a bad guy, oh don't forget to keep your clone up to date. |

You can reset your Tutorial Status on the ESCape menu's just press Escape on your keyboard (you can do this docked) and check each of the tabs until you find the listings for tutorials, then just click on the reset button for each one.
can-baiting (what happened to you) isn't wanted by CCP within the confines of the starter-systems, it's the only location they actively prohibit it, everywhere else in the game your an open target.
for those misguided and mis-informed individuals who will argue that CCP don't care about baiting anywhere, i refer you to the following info --> Grief Play before you post about me being wrong. |

Petition him for harassment. Eve might be a harsh, evil, dark world. CCP however is not very nice when it comes to people targeting newbies for griefing. They really do not like that. Out of the starter systems, all is fair game. Inside of them, special rules apply. |

I wonder if that is why he warped us away though, now that I read the Griefing guidelines. If I report him, and CCP looks back through the logs, they'll see that he destroyed me somewhere other than outside of the starter dock (I have no idea where we warped to). |

petition anyway, if you were in the starter system still (had not jumped through a gate) he should get a ban. even if he is on the right side of the rules, hes going to get a talking to, ccp really dont like people being scared off during the tutorial.
also, who the hell is going to look at his kill stats and be impressed by can baiting newbies in newbships? he trying to join privateers or something? |

i consider you more lucky. All you need is to create another character. And you get your ship back. The only valueable thing you lost in this was your time |

instead of recreating the character, you could just... dock up and get your free newbship. |

LoL. All that trouble to destroy your newbie ship? People are crazy :P. Anyway you were quite unlucky. Next time anyway try to read some guides around about pirates and scammers as soon as possible. 'Cause unfortunately you can find them in real life as in all mmo. P.S. Don't judje EvE Online by some random jackass that want to spoil newbies experiences. This game is really worth it if you like the genre. There is Strength in numbers!!! |

That has to be the funniest story I have ever heard about this increasingly (as I learn about it) lame game. Players spending that much time just to shoot you for their stats. A wargame without clearly defined boundaries or enemies. What the guy could not get enough click, lock , autofire kills of real enemies that he has to devour his own kind? Does the game allow freindly fire so you can just hunt him the rest of his gameplay life until he gets tired of it? Now that would be a real fun game. |

EvE is like the marathon of MMOs. It's not "fun" unless you've been playing it for ages...and even then, it's still pretty boring. Why? Fanboys will mewl over someone disagreeing that this isn't the holy grail of MMOs but here we go...The jump mechanic is unneccesarily drawn out and over used. Mining/harvesting makes the most tedious task you can think of look like a rollercoaster ride. PvP, while widespread, feels clumsy and not well thought out. The offline skilling system was kind of interesting when this game first came out, now it just feels limiting. If spaceship/outerspace themes are what you're looking for well you're stuck with this steamer for a little while longer, but don't worry. Star Trek Online and a few other titles will be coming soon to finally put this lame horse out to pasture.

Originally posted by angriff You have absolutely no clue at all about this game, do you. Not the slightest. If you ever did play it, you were probably too inept to even finish the tutorial, because your ignorance of the game knows no bounds. The really funny part is that awesomely incorrect statement of "A wargame without clearly defined boundaries or enemies" - EVERYTHING is clearly marked, from sector maps and security levels, map info about player ships killed per sector, you name it. Even for total beginners, Local Chat is available to monitor for trouble and to ask pertinent questions. There is a surfeit of information available, if you want to use it. You fail abysmally. |
