Where does it say he was using vista? Nowhere. He could have been using XP which does not have this feature. And even with a restricted account, one's system is still vulerable. Out of all the solutions discussed in this thread for browsing in a windows operating system , none compare to using Firefox with the NoScript addon. Also, a navigate shield like Zone Alarm's will help (although it reports usage). Using Internet Explorer will always be a risk. He probably did not have a virus scanner either.

One officer in our guild got hacked a first time because when he was visiting a website that had info about the ways to beat bosses some kind of keylogger ended up on his pc.

So they got him his account back with his chars but no items, he started playing again and changed his password to something that had 12-15 digits.

And last week he got hacked again even though the pc he played on is used only for playing games (he has a netboo he uses to go on the internet).

You know what ive come to understand. Most stories like this leave out the part where the person with the problem is cussing someone out or saying you better do this and that or basically just being complete asshole or totaly negative demanding help instead of simply asking for it.

Its safer to go the speed limit when noones around but that doesn't mean you shoudln't.

The safest thing is, don't visit shady websites dedicated to the game you play a lot.

This is basically more the equivalent of a guy driving to the bad side of town to buy drugs, then getting carjacked.

I mean, seriously, how many sites would have a keylogger looking for Atlantica Online passwords? Basically just shady AO sites. No one else would care.

Gladly i inform you that this feature exists in XP and it was there also in win2000... I use it (answering to Balckfire1) because i have a 4 year old who likes to play lego games on their website and 5-10 wrong links pressed can bring you on the opposite side of kid games... Also some pages tend to instal on your hard some infected game aplications but if it's a restricted account it can't instal anything without the admin username and password.

off-topic: windows with it's IE are being hacked because it makes more sense to hack the majority rather than the minority. Face it. The majority of ppl have windows and of course IE. A hacker who want's to make money by stealing vital information tries to hack the OS that is most likely ppl will use and not LINUX which is used by less than 5% of the ppl. LINUX and firefox are hackable (most of the version upgrades were due to security vulnerability) but the expectation of profit is far less because just 1 of 20 ppl use it as a OS...

Your obiously a moron if you get hacked that easly dude. I go on gold sites all the time and NEVER in the history of playing Atlantica or any other game have been hacked because of it. The only time I get hacked is when the whole system gets hacked and thats very very rare. Choose your words wisely next time and stop acting like the world hates you lol.

a) telling the game support that an account is yours which is not, and they give you control over that account, is not hacking but simply taking advantage of an unexperienced support staff.

b) if you get a keylogger on your system, and then someone uses the information aquired that way to take over your account, then it IS your fault. there is nothing a company can do to prevent keyloggers working on your system. it is your job to be careful on the web about what programs get on your computer and which ones dont.
the support staff can try to restore your account and give it back to you, which means then that worktime and money is down the sink, because of the stupidity of whoever got the keylogger. and this is not hacking either. hacking would be if someone for example would break into the database where all the information about the users is stored and manipulates it, which is very very hard to do.

People often have too simple passwords, or too simple security questions when trying to get back the password. Or they give their password to friends and guildmates, or pay people to level their characters or go to dubious websites to buy gold and items... And then they complain if they lose control over their account? It's their fault.

giving your passwords to your friends,guild mates, etc.,??? *sight poor gamers... they really deserved that.. i feel sorry for them..
