Simply put, if TOR = death blow to SWG how about TCG?
Or are TCG and the station pass the reasons that'll oblige SOE to keep SWG running even if it has quite none players left? |

Im sure they got fine print that says no. Besides you really dont have to worry about that for more than a year. I dont think LA wants to release another bugged out game that will bomb because of it. Beta testing wont start until next year if they finish up production and testing, you might see a release by Christmas 2010 or early 2011. |

It is SWG TCG in-game loot and the money it rakes in that floats the TCG and SWG. TOR will devastate SWG's playerbase (what little there is left). No players...no viable TCG. Knowing $OE, no refunds either. |

Getting a refund from SOE is not going to happen. What I think they will do is leave TCG up, so that technically you still "have" your cards but the MMO will be gone. This is going to be something that will have to be defined and hashed out in the courts as RMT becomes more and more common, especially given that MMO failure and closure is becoming a lot more common. I don't think you can sell someone something, hide behind a EULA, close it down, take the specific things bought away, and still keep the money. If that's legal, then Bernie Madoff should have invested in a RMT MMO with a TCG lottery. The main difference is that when a subscription MMO is shut down, all you do is stop charging people for more subscription time and/or refund people for the prepaid time that is unused. The terms are clear: You are paying every month for subscription time, not stuff. But RMT throws a wrench in that, you are paying for things, not time. And, in my opinion, a publisher can't just yank that without a refund.

Actually, this thread does raise an interesting question, aside from the lolworthy idea of SOE giving anyone a refund for the TCG. After SWG closes down (I bet it'll be maximum 2 years after TOR's release) does SOE have the license to continue releasing new packs for the TCG, or will they have to stop? Will the TCG have to shut down completely? My guess would be no, there is a seperate license agreement for the TCG, but I could easily be wrong. Also, can you actually battle other players ala Magic: the Gathering, or is it just a collector type game? |

Originally posted by Deewe Well, SOE don't mind keeping smaller games running, in this case it is Lucas art that might close it down, and it that case it it the license going. I could imagine that you might be able make some kind of transfer to legends of Norrath but there is a cold day in heck before SOE pays back any money. I don't see the F2P games that dies paying back people either, you just have to enjoy the games while they last. |

BTW, Vet trials are happening again. People can see you're wrong for themselves. I logged in and only one server had any semblence of a population (and even then it was a lag bomb). Sorry Badger, but during Vet trial times you simply cannot get away with claiming the game is healthy. |
