It was also noted on a recent Eve Online Podcast I think it was "Podded" that CCP had made this announcement not too long ago in a seperate source. "Mr Veigar Pétursson says, with more professional males in the 25-35-year-old age range losing their jobs, he has seen the number of subscribers soar since the economic crisis began. CCP Games has been profitable since 2004, but all profits are currently being reinvested in Eve Online and also into creating World of Darkness, a new online subscription game about vampires targeting an 18-25-year-old, female demographic. " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So, how do some of you feel about this who have been anticipating a World of Darkness MMO for so many years like myself? What sort of conclusions are beginning to swim around in your head? Personally I think theyre brilliant! If this works as planned and it draws a female audience, in turn it will obviously draw a male audience in the same age bracket. Im not sure how fem they plan on making the game, but I would imagine that fashion will probably play a very large role in this MMO. so what are your thoughts? |

Eh.... I'd have to say I am of two minds about this. My woman's lib instincts tell me to somehow resent this statement, as WoD was one of those games I was looking forward to, but really.. it's their money to invest, none of my business and it's not like I really have the money at the moment for a subscription game. |

If it works for P&P, why not for an MMO? If you wanted to interest a girl for P&P in the past, the world of darkness was the choice. Though I don't know how they want to implement intrigues, coteries, rumours and other "social" quests which were the main part of WoD in my eyes. Adding fancy dresses, but design quests like "slay 20 werwolves" wouldn't attract more than other mmos. |

I think it sounds great. But i tend to take those kind of dev statements with a grain of salt. Its not fact or solid truth. And i have played the WoD RPG game, and the vampires are insane..not human. Its "world of darkness" after all, not "world of happiness" : )

Originally posted by Rayx0r Slight rewrite. Well, if they've done their homework and really are aiming for the 18-25 year old female demographic, then we can expect a game with heavy social aspects/RPing and less of a hack/slash/pwn e-sport mentality. Definately not a bad thing; we haven't had a really good social-oriented MMORPG since SWG. |

(I know very little about this game). Wait, a vampire MMO targetted to 18-25 yr. FEMALES? What other "chick book" has vampires in it...oh God... Well, I think it's a different shift in direction and I hope it works out for CCP. Hell, my girlfriend thought EVE was boring, but I thought it was a pretty good game. EVE can be the boy's game, and WoD can be the girl's. |

I don't know why you would resent this. Being in the male 18-25 demographic myself, plenty of the current retail MMOs are already vying for my money. Why shouldn't one target the better half?
As for the "get the women, men will follow" philosophy; well just supports the first assumption I had about the WoD MMO. I had a friend who was really into the WoD universe back in highschool so i'm aware this license attracts the LARP/cosplay crowd. If you watched Trublood you probably realize a lot of people find vampires erotic. Basically what i'm saying is this MMO is going to have a LOT of cyberz. |

Blah!! Sorry Raxyor, I misread the original post and thought they said they were taking away money from WoD, ignore my previous entry and write it off as a tired mind please. |

... but this sounds fail. So the game will be full of teenager emo-chics who have to slay 20 werwolves to buy new fancy dresses? I hope fancy dresses are not the key point which seperates them from other mmos... otherwise they didn't understand, that it was not the ugly graphics why most females were turned off by mmos. |

Nothing wrong with this. Look at AOC and how they blatantly target the teenage male testosteron torrent ... I really wish them well with this. Girls are in general a tough crowd to draw into sitting behind a computer screen and keep them there and interested for a substantial amount of time in my (maybe prejudiced) mind (though there are always exceptions to this ofcourse). |

Those modern day goth vampire paperback novels are selling really well now and anything beats another elf and dwarf fantasy setting, WoW and LoTRO have that market nailed, there are a couple of space based games in the works and another superhero pne so I figure wtf go for it and I wish em the best of luck. |

At 32 I'm starting to feel a little left out myself now and then. *pouts* It's great that they try this now that I think of it. As most companies won't take any risks with target groups and aim for the biggest and easy to reach ones. If they manage to pull this off and make a proffitable game out of this that really pleases an audience that has been left out a little; kudo's to them.

They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

At 30 myself I think I am little too long in the tooth not to be aware of the foibles in my own personal nature and gender in general. And I can't agree more if they can pull this off, they just might lure me away from f2p's because any game with cute outfits might just catch my interest for longer than a few weeks. More power to them and I wish them the best of luck, because I'll be watching and waiting. |

At least here in SW Fla, females are the majority of Vampire LARP players. If WOD is more RP/Social then combat, this will be 100% better for the game as socialization is the key factor to any successful White Wolf game (even the more combat focused Werewolf). |

Great...the first true EmoMMORPG, I did geek out in the early 90's and did some LARPing in the World of Darkness. They picked the right demographic. There were lots and lots of beautiful women , both edgy and emo. Those were the days. I really liked the PnP WoD games in which I participated as well....I just hope it's not too femme ....I would still like to give it a go. |

All they need to do is rename it, World of Darkness, Twilight Revisted and they'll have a huge smash on their hands. No, wait... "Just because you aren't paying doesn't mean it's not PTW." - Amaranthar |

I think it great, maybe then some cute vampire I might hit on in game might actually be female in real life. But WoD has so much potential I just hope CCP dosen't screw this up. I hope its nothing like DDO, I want a huge open world to run around in. |
