The situation is pretty bad, no matter how you look at it.  Was the server taken down maliciously?  Who knows?  Was it taken down abrubtly for a legitimate reason that happened to cause a rollback?  Who knows? Why was there a rollback at all? In a MMO, especially one with big time sinks, rollbacks are one of the worst things that can happen from a player perspectve.  How do sieges work in Darkfall?  One clan challenges another, which creates a 4-hour window (I believe) for preparation, after which the actual siege takes place.  So, rolling back the last few minutes of a siege (the minutes in which victory is decided) effectively  wastes several hours of player time.  That's inexcusable.

Aventurine's handling of the situation is terrible.  The boards are on fire, but there's no official word.  Players were informed (in game) that the server was being shut down, but weren't really given much time.  In other games, I'll see messages every minute for up to 30 minutes.  That's not the case in Darkfall.  At most, I've seen 5 minutes.  It would really behoove Aventurine to comment on the situation, because their silence simply alienates more customers.

Damn ....... this again?  It certainly isn't the first time something like this has happened.  I just can't believe that Aventurine would intentionally crash their server to accomodate a clan and their city.  I would believe that player would, if given the opportunity.  I'm no programmer, but, is that a possibility?

With the heavy client side game could a player in the know crash the server when he saw fit?

After following this game's development since 2001: it would be extremely surprising if Tasos and the game's developers do not play the game themselves as regular characters within the game world.  Darkfail was basically their attempt to build the MMORPG that they had always dreamed of playing.  The original devs were basically a bunch of gamers from the same MMO guild who decided to "live the dream".

There have been several bogus corruption accusations against the Darkfall GMs on these forums ranging from them causing clients to crash, causing server crashes while taking sides during sieges, to refunding items and money.

First of all GMs cannot crash the server ( No but a administrator ( Tasos ) and force a reboot ), or cause a client to crash ( Really? Players can with your engine... a few fragmented packets, proper client id's, bada bing, bada bam. ). They cannot create items or money. ( If this is true, you really do have a limited engine made by 1st year code monkeys. ) All their actions and communications are monitored and logged. ( As with any gaming studio, this is a rare occasion ) We re-checked all chat logs and GM activity for every report mentioned in the forums or reported to us at the help desk, over the time periods that the questionable conduct was supposed to have taken place and found absolutely nothing. ( Yes, and your logs cant be falsified eh?  Darned that review, and the impossibility of using simple transact SQL commands. ) Because of this, any public accusations on the forums accusing GMs or the company of any such activities will be removed ( Not to forget anything that puts the game, or you, Tasos, in a bad light will be removed as well. ), and everyone contributing in the thread will be banned from the forums. ( Thou shalt defy the great overweight and greasy Tasos! Heil Tasos! )
