I was sad when the guys shelved Ogre but I can see how this AoC engine could really improve AO. My problem is wouldnt such a radical jump in graphics kill off alot of players that use older systems? I don;t mind a bump in the requirments but to need an entirely new system is a bit much. I know I would need a new system since AoC runs like half baked dog shit on my Old PC. I hope its optimized and doesn;t require a freaking brand new machine to run. Ogre looked nice but it also looked like it could run on a single core 5+ year old PC. Playing: EvE, Ryzom |

doubtful
aoc uses multi layer textures, different meshes, and way more shader effects.
means already said they wont invest the assets required in retexturing the game or doing all new meshes. so it'll be the same stuff, just in a new engine. kinda like they did with everquest a few years back. |

nice! I was worried for a second I still mess with AO from time to time (the game is just too good to totally leave). With requirements like AoC i would be forced to leave until I actually replace my PC and right now the games I play run fine (Eve, Ryzom, Valve shooters) so im still far off from buying a new one. Sry for stealing ur thread JG, i just have one question. I haven't really been up to date with AO and it's graphics change, but i wonder if they'll update character models too? last time i checked no one was sure. Thanks! |

Cerebrix was dead on, they can't make AO that fancy, and using another games engine designed for different and more populated meshes would be like creating an entire new game and would take way too long and much more developers than currently staffed with the AO team. As for requirements ont he new engine itself, our machines will actually run better, because the new engine will actually off-load the graphics onto your GPU instead of strictly sticking to your CPU. So it'll improve your framerates by actually using your GFX cards and giving your CPU more breathing room. I'm looking forward to it and to see how much nicer it'll look :) , hopefully if it ever comes out that is. |

i think he was more referencing how theres been massive performance issues with aoc over the last year that had nothing to do with hardware.
you really didnt have to come off so douchey about it |

OP let me ask you a question. When playing Eve online were you one of the people against the premium lite client because you needed a semi-good gpu to run it? I find it funny that you play Eve online which imo is a pretty "hardcore" game but you come off as a very sensitive person. Trolls = Hardcore

Ah, thanks for the answer. I think it'd look a bit weird w/ everything being updated except for the avatars. |

Do you have some AO info? maybe something on possible specs? what they've been working on? would you like to contribute to this thread at all? Playing: EvE, Ryzom |

not for a while, they just started the whole "move to the dreamworld engine" thing last week.
but it wouldnt look nearly as wierd as you think. everquest looked just fine when they moved to a dx9 engine with the same old models from luclin. |
