38 Studios has announced that they have acquired Big Huge Games from publisher THQ.

Maynard, MA, May 27, 2009 – 38 Studios (www.38studios.com), an entertainment and original IP creation company, today announced the acquisition of Big Huge Games (BHG) from publisher THQ Inc. The acquisition is a critical step in 38 Studios’ strategy to deliver a broad range of entertainment products centered on its original fantasy IP, codenamed Copernicus. The purchase of Big Huge Games includes all of the company’s proprietary IP, tools, technology, assets, and works-in-progress. Specific financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Big Huge Games was founded in 2000 by veteran game developers Brian Reynolds, Jason Coleman, Dave Inscore, and Tim Train. Award-winning lead designer Ken Rolston, a 25-year role-playing game designer and co-creator of Oblivion and Morrowind, is another vital and dynamic component in BHG’s success. Big Huge Games has developed top-selling games including Rise of Nationsâ, and was built with the same talent that created Alpha Centauri, and Civilization II. Big Huge Games is currently developing an unnamed RPG title for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC.

“The acquisition of Big Huge Games will be tremendously beneficial to the growth, market position, financial stability, and long-term success of 38 Studios,” said Brett Close, CEO and President, 38 Studios. “BHG’s cross-platform RTS/RPG engine will accelerate the realization of our Online Entertainment ExperienceÔ for the Copernicus IP. The acquisition enables us to develop and deliver top-quality games in multiple genres that are based in a shared world, ultimately maximizing the value of our Copernicus MMOG and the intellectual property as a whole.”

I've always wondered about Isturi as all of his posts that I've read there are randomly capitalized words.

Anyway, good news to hear. Copernicus is the only project that I'm more than a little interested in seeing/hearing about. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see what it "actually" is next year at E3.

Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.

It is just a simple STYLE in writting it gets ppls attention. Nothing more nothing less. I am one not to follow but to break away and add to the writting, CREATIVE if you will or simply put just having a little FUN. I have to admit it is getting some what OLD so I may mix it up agian. Some ppl type in a diffrent color so I do not want to do that since it has been done. hmmm just dont know any sugestions???

I just think you're using a code, and the capitalized words are messages to "The Terrorists". They hate "us" for our "freedom", you know.

What Happened With SWG Went Down YEARS AGO! Please Try To Stop Whining About It In Every Thread I Read. Mourn It, And Finally MOVE ON With Your Lives! Thanks A Heap.

next year? i surely hope you mean in 5  days.. cuz that unnaunced rpg is to release in 2009 autumn/fall aka same time as dragon age more or less

i wonder if this is the reason thq sold them? considering thq bought them last year.. and they are so happy about that rpg..

i hope its not cuz they thought its not as good,

tho it can be opossite, as 38 seems as new publisher.. found late in 2006.. so what.. 2.5 years at most , they seem to be about everything, books movies, games, but only games you can pick is from big huge games..  and their shop have just 4 items.. which are shits and caps :o wut wut..

so i wonder.. is that new game is gona be theirs entry to the market.. where is money comming from ? and is this good for big game, for all we know. they can have more time/finances  to perfect theirs game..

time will tell..

Wasn't this the studio that's funded by some baseball guy? (not from US so no idea of his name but I dare say its on their site) Think they did a feature on him on this site a while back.

38 Studios is founded by TODD MCFARLANE who resides and owns his Toy enterprise in PHX, AZ who of course the answer to your question Smikis that CURT SCHILLING who of course won World Series championships in 2001 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hmm 2/3 of this fantastic team has ties to AZ that is were I live woot. ANYWAYS Not ONLY that but also is said to be a WoW gamer or so I may of heard lol don't quote me on that. The third member is non other then one of the best Fantasy Sci Fi writers of all time and also noted that he has worked with Star Wars franchise and Lucasfilm, try NOT to hold that against him. And I know for a FACT that he has written several WoW novels.

With that kind of back ground If I had to guess what kind of theme they will use to kick off thier first MMORPG Imagine a cross between WoW and Star Wars clone wars that is prob the political aspect added to the game mix that with SPAWN "Holy COW Batman now that is some kind of game."
