So ive been lurking the fourms for awhile now, and ive noticed that many players trash talk on RuneScape? I do not understand why people trash one of the most "successfull" mmorpgs. No, i am not a fanboy. I quit RuneScape 3 or 4 years ago when the Wildy was nerfed, but i do not think RuneScape should be banished like it is today.
Ofcourse RuneScape has its downsides, but what game dosent? Instead lets list some good things about the game!- ~Non-linear gameplay, Open sandbox feeling ~You do not have to be dedicated to one style of combat, you can be a mage one day and an archer the next ~Ability to mix and match combat styles to create "hybrids" Example: Melee fighter wearing archer armor for magic protection ~Crafting/Item creating system ~Quests arent "kill 87 rats" ~Multiple types of PvP ~Old "kill and loot" style of PvP, you die you lose your items, you kill somebody else you get there items ~Low system requiriments (ofcourse some people see this as a "con" ) ~Diverse combat styles, multiple types of "pures" "tanks" ext ~Diverse combat system creates a game in which there is no "best" type of player in a pvp instance ~Not a game to "hold your hand" in, the game is not forgiving. ~Harsh death "penalty" if you wish to call it a penalty.
See? Now sure, RuneScape does have alot of un-satisfactory things about it, but it does have alot to offer. Ironicially, it has what most popular games lack in. Maybe RuneScape could be improved on to create the ultimate sandbox? Who knows..
Now please imagine an "improved" build of the RuneScape model. Imagine a game with good graphics, old style pvp, sandbox style gameplay, real quests, and a combat system in which you actually aim (like Darkfall). You now have one incredible game!
In conclusion, it is shown here that one of the biggest so called "fails" among mmorpg goers, can be a base model on a game in which many sandbox fans have been begging for, for years. Sure, RuneScape has its problems, but thats why a new game needs to be created that takes after the successes of RuneScape, and other games, without the problems that face the games which make them unsatisfactory among mmorpg lovers. |

Runescape was my first "MMORPG" my other being Diablo 2, i started playing Runescape classic when i was 7 years old and i still find the moment when i got my first rune 2 hander and killed the only dragon available to kill for free members the most exciting ive ever had playing the genre, when i got my first warglaive of azzinoth i honestly thought it would create the same feeling but i didnt really care to be honest i just ebayed the account. Perhaps thats because i was 7 years old then and am 18 now. I left the game when they started screwing around with the game in RS2 and i had been playing other mmos along with rs casually anyways. Runescape for me had a great skill system, trade system, and pvp system. Maybe if they hadnt screwed them up i would still be playing. Although diablo 2 was still probably the game that got me into online gaming. |

Lol... RuneScape
While you can't understand trash talk for it on the completely other end of the spectrum I can't fathom why its even in conversation. It's a joke that no one should be making money for. It's not the most unpopular MMO actually and it's just one more reason why I have so little respect for peoples judgement. I'm not even going to get into an argument and make a ton of statements on why it's not good. Any rational person should be able to play it for 5 minutes and understand (20 if you REEEEALLY want to see if theres more to it lol). But then again people that seem rational and intelligent in other areas can also spark 'religious debate' for me too ;) but thats off topic. (watch religulous - best documentary ever) Anyway if you like it so much I beg of you just go play it or pllllleeeease post in the runescape forum or at the very least give a warning in the topic that its about runescape because from the moment I first heard about it and tried it out (because I like to give things a chance) I was already sick of it. :( It's just an awful awful game in so many respects and I could live with that because theres many of them ... flash mini games on random websites for example which have better graphics usually though. But the fact that they can make money off it and actually have a huge fanbase apalls me so much. I could rant forever about this but I'm just going to stop now.
I would like to start the 'Lets destroy runescape so I wont have to hear about it anymore' club. Anyone else in? :p
PS: oh and to the guy above me... D2 was also 1 of my first online games... that and starcraft and c&c great game but idk if you can call it an mmorpg.

Well i can't go in detail but people play for 5 mins and thats it,then bash the game forever. Last time i checked runescape was holding second position subscription wise behind wow. In my opinion you gotta get to like lvl 80+ to have fun because thats pretty much when most of the game unlocks and your geared enough/have enough knowledge of the game. Like many review sites have said its a love or hate game and its been holding up for years ;) |

If I wanted to play a sandbox that looked 10 years old I would just go back and play UO, its still a sandbox in many ways.
Playing: EvE, Ryzom |

Hmm~~~I do think Runescape scored grreat successes no matter waht aspect you said. I happened to find Runescape from MMORPG.COM. saying its browser-based MMORPG, so I googled it I found its official website. www. runescape.com. I played for a while, that is cool game I ever played browser-based MMORPG. at the same time, I found they provided us with client download to play. I should say the developers did a good job. Finally, If you want to play more game, I will tell you a good site. www.playbbg.com. I created a feature for Runescape. Because that is a best game I ever played my road is long |

i'd have to say runescape is probably still the best mmorpg i've played. it offers a good amount of skills and character customization. the quests are somewhat aimed at a younger audience, however when i played it as a child i found it very entertaining and fun. add a small subscription fee ($10-12) a month and you almost double in-game content. the wilderness was a very good PvP concept where players would fight others of equal level, or delve deeper and fight more variations of levels. crafting items was very in-depth, and there was a true economy in the game with the use of shops which would base their prices due to the number of items they had in stock. features runescape should add if to be re-made - totally new & improved graphics - yet still allowing for the lower-grade systems to be able to run it because this is why runescape still has a massive fan-base and subs. - keep the F2P and P2P option - everyone gets to start out playing for free. the game does hook you into P2P, because there is so much more content and fun things to do in P2P (castle wars, minigames, quests, armors/weapons) etc. they could probably increase sub fees to $15 and i would of still paid. - aim for a slightly more mature audience - the humor in runescape was amusing, but there are many childish elements in the game which prevent our older audiences from playing. this is both good & bad. but it is inevitable. you must choose what age audience you want to appeal to and stick to that. if they were going to improve the game, they would have to aim for a more mature audience. because firstly the game would have to be downloaded if the game was going to be totally improved with alot of content and features. most 12 year old kids wont know how to download and install and do all that stuff. and their parents would probably not allow them to download large files etc.
theres probably alot more i could talk about but i can't really be bothered. but i would really like to see runescape be developed into a new game with improved graphics and quality. |
