Originally posted by denshing Although I agree with your views, i would like to bring up a very valid counter-argument to make you feeel stupid. Darkfall- you have to click EVERYTIME you want to execute a base attack" Real- you half to pull the trigger EVERYTIME you want to fire a gun" GOOOSH WHAT A TEDIOUS ACT! "And you did mean basic instead of base right?"
um Darkfall- headshot ooo 30 out of 300+ life Real- headshot, dead, and you're in jail
GREAT comparison there bub. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

Geez I'm so tired of hearing how DF takes oh so much skill and other games don't. Let's set the record straight: ALL GAMES REQUIRE SKILLS! It is actually possible to be GOOD at games that use auto attack, believe it or not. I've never played WoW but I'm 100% convinced that it's possible to be good at it. I have played DF and I'm equally convinced that it's possible to be a skilled DF player. The problem with combat in DF isn't a matter of it taking skill or not because it certainly does. The problem is that it's mind numbingly boring. IMHO, constant LMB bashing is almost, not exactly, but almost the same thing as auto attack. It's just tedious. It doesn't add anything whatsoever. I'm sure it's positive to create a good MMORPG with twitch style combat, but DF isn't it. |

Key and about the only consideration is, how much fun factor the game offers. Chasing a player around, admist lag, or rubber banding due to speed hacks, fanatically clicking LMB, hoping I hit him instead of my own team mate, is NOT my idea of fun. Skill is just a self delusive way of making one looks bigger in a game. A game is not a testing ground of skill, nor a selection process for university enrollment. Nor a way to choose who gets laid, paid or whatever. Its a game, period. |

Originally posted by sigamon Still though, it's a gankfest either way you look at it. In your example it's just when you play on Counter-strike maps without autobalancing and everyone wants to be on the winning team so it eventually turns into 10 on 3. People say instanced scenerios and battlegrounds are stupid -- but it makes for even matches of similar skill levels, there IS a reason MMOs have gone the direction they have and it isn't to piss off old time UO/EQ/SWG people... I know it's cool to get to go into battles when you are fresh into the game but the best PvP is in FPS games, balance and fairness. RPGs, by design, have characters in the world at all different skill levels with different skills and armors and powers... etc. It will never be as fair and as balanced as an FPS game. If you think have 100 in all your skills and killing new players takes skill... you're sadly mistaken. If on the other hand you were a top ranked player in CS or CoD4 or TF2 or whatever, I'll admit you went against people of similar skill levels and had superior gaming abilities. But really, if you think you are a badass in an MMO because you grinded your skills longer, have a better clan to support you, and have better gear than your opponent, then I feel pretty bad for you that you're stroking your ego over it. And sorry person I quoted, I went off topic a bit, that wasn't directed at you, just general gamers that think RPG PvP is all about skill. |

Basically a clan works it's butt of getting the resources and gold to build things like walls, gates, and cannons. Then another clan comes along and bypasses all of that. The biggest aspect of the game, and you have a DFO fan here varifying that it's broken. PS: Quit comparing combat in DFO to Oblivion. DFO combat is NOTHING LIKE OBLIVIONS.
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Thanks for the lulz though! |

I agree, I always laugh at these "Skill" comparisons about other MMO's and FPS's out there... Skill....Since when does skill have shit to do with a RPG anyway? It's not your playing Quake or Counter-strike, where some skill can help. |

Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you the average darkfall player. Target audience has been found. I swear to god, this game attracts all the pants on head retards. There is just as much "skill" involved as your typical fps, meaning not very much. Circle strafe. Circle strafe. Circle strafe. With maybe a few bunny hops thrown in. OH MY GOD WE'RE SURROUNDED! SEND FOR BACKUP! DIG IN DEFENSIVE POSITIONS! MAN YOUR NECKBEARDS!!! I'll pre order you SWTOR if you let me put my lightsaber in your sarlaac cave. |
