Well in MMO's, I have more buddies than I have friends. It's like the real world in a way, because to me the friends are the one you trust and the buddies are the ones you enjoy time and play with. That's how I take it. No matter if i stop playing a MMO or have unused things, I just don't go about giving my account, character, item, etc. away to anybody.

There are so many signs I follow when it comes to people in mmorpgs that I pick up quick. Many people just say hello to me on msn/aim just to ask me for something and sometimes if I say no they just never contact me again. It's quite funny. It don't bother some players though, but to me it goes to show how people are. Me, 80% of the time I never ask for anything. Actually, I'll try finding what I need before buying it and in an MMO, people would know off the bat the possibilities of you needing this weapon or that gear. That don't mean I do my best to help people out too.

Now I look do forward to helping people who help me out. If you give me something and look forward to me being a stronger player, I will always repay your generosity. If you just play and grind with me, of course I will hook you up with a potion or two, but it's possible you may not get much out of that. There is just so many ways I figure them out, but it dosen't mean I don't do anything for them. I always help people to see if they can care to return the favor and it don't even matter what it is, just the thought that counts.

Because of this I find and enjoy many people, but I found a really, really, really small set of trustful players that are like family to me and it's something you don't find often (that last for over a year), because a MMO can just be a big soap opera at times. To be honest I'm more spoiled by (actual) females in mmo's than males overall.

So to me, I'm not cool with people saying hello to me and asking me for something and I like the people I play with, but people are doing a poor job of being there for you when you know that you possibly could trust them. I don't care if you are male or female, I just don't do handouts and shower people with things (beginners I do help, that's cheap stuff). This is a batman & robin relationship going on here.

Why I make this topic now, is that it's annoying for this girl to be saying hi, just to ask to "borrow" my stuff when she has a character who bots in the game (not her main) and says she is poor. Isn't that irony or something? She's a cool person, but we were just playing buddies and I don't ever recall a moment of her doing something for me. So when I stop playing the game yet always keep my account active (with millions of cash and items worth millions in a guild bank), I'm not the person you should seek to get stuff from.

A guy did the same thing and I said no. Haven't herd from him since, and strange enough he asked when he was going into the military soon anyway. Well that's just my say on it. I want to hear how you guys tackle such situations. Also forgive me for my spelling and grammar. I didn't feel like running this though word first.

Well I know what you mean about the friends / buddies part.
I have my real life friend, and we share everything. Items, gold, accounts, you name it. Everything that's sharable, we share. I have a handful of very close gaming friends I play with too, and we share stuff aswell. Like when I go on holiday (vacation) for a couple of weeks, I let some people access my account (but keep my bank locked, only my r/l mate knows the bank), and put everything I don't want to lose in the bank. If they play my character, they dress him in their own items.

As for everyone else in the game, such as people we've trained with a couple of times, etc. They get nothing from me. Even if we kill a boss with them, they ain't having any loot.
I tend to play MMOs with a pretty close group of friends, and everyone else is generally just cannon fodder. If the random person is pretty cool, and I liked them, yeah they may get somethings out of me. Maybe even train again with them in the future.

Ah, and another thing, I have a different stance with newbies. If a newbie asks for advice, I always do my best to help. I even give them some cash without them asking (not that much for me, but it's very useful for them). If a newbie asks me for a very small amount of cash so he can <insert whatever he wants here>, I tend to give him more than what he asked for. However, if a newbie can't spell properly, and says to me "CAN I AV SUM CASH PLZ?!?!?", I actually will tell him to fuck off, and probably PK him next time I see him, if I remembered the name.

OP actually sounds like the complete opposite sort of player to me.

My real life friends don't play what I play, but if they did, I would have that same connection that you would with accounts (depends on who), item sharing and then it's my close set where I'm more open to sharing, because we look out for each other. I also agree with newbie advice and helping them out. We're not all too opposite, but I do have to say that if  a newbie ask for a set amount of cash that is easily obtainable by killing under 10 easy mobs then I usually say no. In a lot of mmo's these days cash is not needed for newbies (depending on level).

Grinding buddies wil have to be there for me in order for me to exchange a favor.

Well, buddies who begs are not real buddies. I do help out friends with gold and stuff, but they are the ones that help other players themselves.

Begging for virtual currency is the most pathetic thing in the world. And I hate "buddies" that constantly asks for stuff without giving anything back.

On the other hand I often hand out stuff to new guild members that are noobs and help with crafting, quests and so on, but after a while when I see they only takes and give nothing back I quit.

But there are many nice players out there that are very generous with both stuff and time, you are the best :)

I've been gaming with the same group of 15-20 people for the past 3-6 years depending on the person. Some RL friends some just folks we picked up along the way. Everyone of those guys knows my Login/pass and knows anything i have is theres. We all help each other out, and i have no reason to not trust them fully.

To people we just meet in game tho, yes i have been known to be the giving kind. I am usually that person that makes 20x more then anyone that you know, but rarely ever has a dime to his name cuz he loans the money out non stop. I don't do it cuz i am gullable, or because i hope people will like me for it... i do it cuz wtf am i going to do with millions of hoarded gold myself and my friends/guild mates being broke and unable to play at the same level i am?

I will help out friends or even strangers in passing.  As far as buffing them, healing them or anything of that sort.

Past that there are people I don't trust and people I really really don't trust and then the category of people I just absolutely do not trust.  I am not likely to share anything, but I am very likely to give things away as gifts.

Back when I played WoW, I was GM for kickass guild totally focused on helping people.  We got used every now and then... but so what?  If I'm willing to help anyone, and do it by choice, I really can't be taken advantage of, can I?

It worked out really well.  When someone needed money for a mount, the guild chipped in to help.  We even had Thursday night set aside for higher levels to help lowbies.

I'm kinda bipolar, however, cuz the rest of the time I just play solo and PvP cuz I can't stand people! :)

The funny thing is, the people I'd help out with just about anything are the people who don't ask me for anything. There's my brother, my nephew, and my friend John (whom I've known for over 20 years). As far as people I've met in-game, there are very few I'd help out with money or items (and again, they don't ask - I know they need something and I offer).

For anyone else, if they ask nicely and catch me in a good mood, I'm likely to give them an insignificant amount of game money or an item I wouldn't miss anyway. This beggar girl you know just needs to be told no. No reasons, no ecxuses, just a flat "no" (or if you're feeling generous, "no, sorry"). Don't waste your energy.
