Cryptic Studios has posted a profile of the hero Kinetik, one of the Champions in Champions Online.

Brendan Grant never expected to be a superhero. He certainly never planned on becoming a Champion.

He was born to a working class family in Detroit. His mother, in particular, encouraged him to study hard so he could go to a good college and make a better life for himself. All seemed to be going according to plan. He won a merit scholarship to attend the University of Michigan, where he intended to study Chemistry. Before he had a chance, though, the Battle of Detroit happened.

Both of Brendan’s parents died during the Battle of Detroit, trying to get their children to safety. In that goal, they succeeded. Brendan and his younger brother and sister survived. Without their parents, though, the younger kids in the family would have to go into foster care. Brendan wasn’t about to let that happen. So he gave up his dream of college and took a job working for Dew Chemicals. He kept the family together, supporting them on his salary.

I was playing Kinetic in CoH, so i expect it to be atleast as much fun, even if it had its downsides.

This character depiction was very bland and boring; taken straight out of all the superhero clichées.

It must have taken no more than five minutes to write.

I really hope they can do better with their storylines.

This "story" is really, really bad writing!

There is certainly much more innovative background stories than this.

*yawn* very boring indeed

I should go look it up before asking here, but here goes anyway.  Is Champions hero only based like coh was when it first came out or will there be a villian side all in same release?  K call me stupid, dumb etc. for not knowing this but I either dont know or dont remember.  Thanks.

It's going to be Hero only, at release. And no, I'm not going to call you stupid for not having all parts of the interweb hooked up to your brain at the same time. It's okay for not knowing a tid-bit about a game that hasn't even been released yet. I'll save my flame-thrower for people who deserve it.

Meh, it wasn't the best write-up in the world. But, these characters are just supposed to serve as examples of potential characters that can be made. That's all. These characters aren't trying to reinvent the wheel, here.
